USA likes commercial music for example lilwayne. He sucks d.ick in very aspect but since it's pop music no cares. I got over in getting angry that anything in top 40 billboard charts and accept that just what people like.......
The new BEP single isn't half bad. Sounds like a song from Daft Punk's cutting room floor. And that isn't anything to be ashamed of...
Black Eyed Peas were a pretty respectable outfit when they first started out and enjoyed a pretty big following among the backpack rap crowd. After that, though, they basically decided to go after the big bucks by pandering to the lowest common denominator via adding Fergie and a very large dose of stupid.
I agree that BEP suck, but you've lost me at "Toxic". At least 'Let's Get Retarded' was a little bit catchy.
I was listening to Sound Opinions a while back -- the great podcast out of Chicago (HIGHLY recommended) -- and I believe they said the Black Eyed Peas are the biggest selling group around? Or something jaw-dropping -- like they're the biggest money makers in music or whatever. I was duly flabbergasted -- because there is indeed something extra stupid about them. And I think it is in fact because they used to not be so stupid. That transition will always ring more flat and more false. I also have to say that Toxic hooks me every time. Emphasis on hook. (I'm sure there's a 'guilty pleasure' thread somewhere on this board...) EDIT: Found: Not One... But Two...
They've had some crazy success this year. Their last two singles were at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for 26 straight weeks! That's an all time record for any artist. Boom Boom Pow - 12 weeks I Gotta Feeling - 14 weeks Only 11 other songs from 1955-2009 have ever had 12+ weeks at #1.
I was just going to say, I saw some BEP shows back in their pre-fergie days and they were actually quite good. But as Belgian guy mentioned, when they went full retard and added Fergie it got bad quickly.
Well, I might not know their history, but what I do know is that their songs are not good pop songs and they dress like cartoon characters.
