    Anfield, Liverpool

Well with both teams coming off losses on the weekend, it's tough to say who will be more motivated. Luckily Torres is still out, and Gerrard is just coming back so that will help. But Lyon is pretty injured too. We're gonna have to play Toulalan in the center of defense again, so Gonlalons is likely to start. Bastos has a ankle knock but is schedule to play. It hurts our chances not to have him at 100%.

I'm hoping for a win, but I see a draw being most likely. Hell depending on which Liverpool shows up we could just as eaisly lose, we did not look good on the weekend. It will come down to Govou and Pjanic most likely if we're gonna get points from this

too much defense is our downfall, i think, OL needs to hold on the ball, rather than go into defensive mode, because liverpool will keep on pressing on until the defense can't hold on

What a second half from the boys, victory at Anfield, it tastes so sweet.

I'm so happy for Gonalons, to get such a huge goal like that.

And did you ever notice, that the player you rag on the most during a match always does something huge?

    86th minute
    91st min
Lloris.....I grow tired of singing Lloris' praises, I might as well just get a shirt with his face on it.

    Pjanic....superbe

can't think right now, top of the group perfect 3 from 3

Sidney Govou has always been my favourite Lyon player. Today he was fantastic. Great preformance all around by les Gones.

Great game. I thought we did a good job and the subs were really well done though honestly on that Delgado goal my grandma could have put it in.

It's interesting, i think we have a lot of good offensive talent, but we play mostly defensively. But the good sign is that it seems we know when we need more creativity/offense and we can get it without changing the formation.

My only criticism was Puel starting Ederson in place of Gomis and he rectified that but not until the 60th min. Had he started Gomis in place of Ederson I feel they would have gotten an earlier goal because Lisandro was very isolated and needed Gomis to play with him in order to be more effective and Ederson didnt do much.

Yep. I thought Lyon had bought Bastos because Ederson is not a left winger - which everbody already knew.

not sure... the angle isn't that big and the pressure is enormous. unless you're a helluva lot better than me, out of 5 chances with no keeper or defenders you'd not net that more than once... if you got to that spot and my guess is you'd be about 10 meters too slow. that was his real merit, attacking at the far post like that.

can't disagree as far as tactics but bafé's adductors have been screaming at him all week... and ederson did a good job all in all, at least in the first half.

i agree with both these appreciations.

and there was more than his goal... he had a sweet chance a little earlier that went just wide. andaside from n'gog nutmegging him once he was pretty solid on defense too, especially in the air and especially in the last 15 minutes... after his goal he sprouted wings, he had adrenaline squirting out of his ears! and the work he did contributed greatly to OL pushing liverpool to the wall.

he was very slippery in the first half hour, then lucas sewed him up pretty tight... just as carragher did lisandro and that irish kid finally got a decent grip on ederson. but where does that leave the guys trying to corral källström, govou, cissokho, makoun... orphans in the storm. beyond the scoreline you have to realize that beside the confusion following cris' concussion and a flat spot of 10 minutes at the start of the second half OL was just flat out superior in all sectors except GK where reyna proved equal to hugo.

yea Reina made to spectacular saves before Gonalons headed his goal in. I didn't think we'd ever score if they could have kept that third effort.

Was just thinking how great it would be to have Mensah on the team with all the CB problems. They are so lucky Cris is going to be ok. Still dont understand why they let Mensah go but thats old news I guess.

it all boiled down to who 1) had the juice at the end: govou, cissokho, källström, pjanic... did. carragher, insua, agger... did not 2) had the better subs: skrtl and voronin were perfectly useless. subs gonalons and delgado scored.

Not to mention Lyon didn't play all that well either, until the last 25 minutes or so. If Pool come in the Gerland like that, they're gonna get bossed.

Would be amazing to finish first...then with a little luck, get a beatable opponent and all the sudden quarter-finals could be realistic.

bos, man, show some enthusiasm! first of all finishing first is almost odds-on now. and i don't think the squad is afraid of anyone. we'll see, but the way things are jelling i think they might be able to boss them all.

It seems that people outside of France are finally starting to take notice of Lloris' quality:

I went to the bar to watch the match yesterday, and sat with a few liverpool fans. Before the match started they didn't even know Hugo Lloris was, and by the end they were discussing which european 'superclub' were going to snatch him away from us .

Oh it was, you should have seen me screaming in the 91st. In an empty bar with people staring, and the dejected faces around me. This is why I love the game :D

I keep telling people that Lloris is a long term guy, but no one will listen. They were even talking about Aly and Pjanic being bought in summer as well. Aly who just signed with the club...seems some people think that the Olympique Lyonnais first team, is a premiership shop window.

I could only watch the last 20 minutes of the game, but thankfully, that's where most of the action was. I'm downloading the entire match right now because I'd like to see everything else (especially Lloris's spiderman reflexes).

I was a bit dismayed about Lisando. I thought he did great, and he worked hard all the way till the end, but he was left alone for most of the time, and he was often pushed out wide, which is not where he does his best. I too am wondering why Ederson got the start. I can't imagine Puel being affected by his recent statements in the press. I haven't seen the first 70 minutes, so I can't comment on his performance, but he's not getting glowing reviews from anyone either. I know Gomis wasn't fit to start, but was Bastos not ready either?

i think ederson did a good enough job, helping out on loose balls and also showing enough good ballwark early to attract a lot of attention and ope, up space for others. lisandro was kept a close eye on and wore down the red defense in a way which deserves a mention in our finally scoring those two.

the last 20 minutes were where we broke through but it was all prepared by the rest. until cris got concussed we were definitely getting the best of the first half.

Lisandro also had that point blank header that really should have put us up 1-0 in the first half.

havent watched the game yet but I'm optimistic about Lyon's chances of progressing pretty far in the CL.

The main concern still is, of course, the CBs. Will Lyon be able to address this quickly enough?

he did have to get around Carragher (i think it was), in the air though. So it wasn't an easy header, but he did get into a good position
