The advance schedule for ESPN2 has a World Cup draw show from noon to 2:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 4. I hadn't seen a time until now.

I would like to see the rigging of the drawing on live TV.

Sepp: "So, Jack who should be in the group of death?"

Jack: "Start with the USA and those bastard English. I want them both gone. They give me nothing."

According to FIFA's website, the draw, which takes place on Friday, December 4, in Cape Town, South Africa will be at 2:00pm local time. Here is the link to the article about the draw.

    http://www.fifa.com/worldcup/finaldraw/index.html

Cape Town is 6 hours ahead of New York (Eastern time) in the USA, so that means the draw begins 8:00am (Eastern), 7am (Central), 6am (Mountain), 5am (Pacific).

This gives a good indication of when the World Cup matches will happen too. It will be just like Germany in 2006, as they were also 6 hours advance of the East Coast. So plan on lots of lunchtime outings to see the matches next summer folks, or better yet skip work all together. Tell your boss, you have my permission.;)

This is the first time I've followed the Qualification process all the way through. How exactly does the draw work. I know there are 8 seeds, but are the remaining 24 teams placed in any sort of order for the draw, or is every team 9-32 considered equal?

The remaining teams are placed in pools by confederation (I think Europe is one, the seeded teams are another, and then the other confederations are combined in a pre-determined manner for a total of four pools). This ensures adherence to the rules that a maximum of two UEFA countries can be in a group, and no more than one from any other confederation.

One team is drawn from each pool as A1 (which is actually South Africa), 2, 3, and 4, B1, 2, and so on. The dates for each group and order that teams will play each other has already been determined. The formula for what teams will play in the first knockout round (ex. Group A 1st place vs. Group B 2nd place), and what date each game will be played on has also been decided.

It will be a 6 hour difference between South Africa and Eastern Time during the World Cup, but for the draw in December it will be a 7 hour difference, since South Africa does not ever change its clocks.

This is my favorite single broadcast event on the planet.

It's like Christmas, Carnival and Halloween rolled into one.

So then the ESPN show will be on seven and a half hours after the actual draw? No point in watching it live then, since I will not be able to wait to see what the groups are!

That story is not accurate. I just found something from a South African source intended for media covering the draw.

That jibes with the ESPN broadcast schedule.

Thanks for the information! This is good news. Now I will take a long lunch at work to see this on ESPN. You would think that FIFA could at least update the story to reflect the 7:00pm draw time, I mean it's on their own website!

So based on this info, the draw will be televised live on ESPN, on Fri. Dec. 4 starting at 12 Noon (Eastern).

Heidi Klum was there for the 06 (Germany) draw. Who knows who might show up for the 2010 draw?

There are several threads on that here in this forum.

Basically, slim and none, and slim's strapped in and is waiting to leave town.

Indeed it does seem as though I've watched the draw on Univision on at least one occasion (either because it wasn't shown at all on ESPN or because ESPN showed it on delay and I wanted to watch it live.)

It's the women. They are still doing one semi live and one taped. The live one is at 5:30 that afternoon. It is not right after the draw.
