Wow! did'nt think you'd get off that easy. You guys are sitting with one foot in the door to S. Africa

Portugal v. Bosnia will be very interesting. Even Ireland v. France should be fun to keep an eye on, this kind of reminds me of when they lost to Scotland in Euro08 qualies

Yea, happy we avoided Ireland and Ukraine but Russia can ******** anything up. We tied Wales 0-0 the first game in the 2004 play-off, missed liked 50 100% chances and had to win 1-0 in Cardiff to go through.

I had to come check this thread out. After all, Dima used "deux" in the name...

Slovenia NT player Ilic had this to say about Russia ( though he also said that France/Portugal would be tougher )

"Россия – это как Бразилия, только в Европе. Одним моментом они могут решить исход матча."

I udnerstand if you had actually qualified, but you and many of Ukraine's fans seem content that you knocked Russia out. Not cool dude. :(

Well, we qualified for play-offs, which is where we are now.

I just marvel at how people just say things like "Одним моментом они могут решить исход матча". Wouldn't this be true for any match EVER that ended 1-0 or in a draw?

He's just saying that Russia is an explosive and fast team I think, which is true.

Don't hate the playa, hate the game. ;) Goliath why can't you just admit that Russia constantly produces skillful footballers ? Just look at the amount of playmakers that came out of the country since independence.

Russia is an exciting team, truth be told not as skillful and technical as our previous sides but as a team much better.

    Any thoughts on Slovenia?
Essentially they got 2nd by defeating Slovakia twice, and staying unbeaten at home.
they are 6-6-2 over the course of last year or so, with a very mixed bag of results, losing a close one to Ingerlunt, slaughtering Poland and goin' down to Belgium and N.Irealnd

    1.
Novacovic seems like the only viable scoring threat, and
2.surely they will be playing for a tie in Moscow?

Interestingly enough their lifetime home record is about .500, the main stadium is under renovation, so currently Slovenia plays home matches in Maribor - gorgeous stadium - but fits under 13K

it also seems that not a single Maribor player currently starts for the Nats.

High temps in Maribor in mid-November are around 8C - so it'd be chillin' in quite a physical way - not sure if that'll benefit Slovenia, but a sloppy field or high grass definitely will - thankfully the stadio has been completely remodeled in 2008 - so Italian Petrovka debacle should be avoided.
    Step in, Chaverim.

I do not know about exciting, skillful, or technical. And, truly, I don't care. Above everything, a team must be successful.

But, yes, indeed, Russia has had its share of very good and creative players lately.

Now if you could just develop some central defenders and a striker, you would be set.
