could prove to be a very interesting line-up with Giggs, Evra, Rooney, Park and Fletcher all missing. one eye definitely has to be on the liverpoo match so i could see a very different back-four. while this game is important it is not more important than the match on sunday. hopefully we'll pull out the win.

by the way, is this Corry Evan's first call-up to the first team squad?

Acoording to wiki, he was on the bench against Hull at the back-end of last season.

    She lied.

    --------------------------------------------------------------
With Van der Sar coming back against Bolton, I was half-wondering if we might just rest him for this one before facing Liverpool, easing in him back in on a gradual basis. It wouldn't have been unusual for him to miss a group stage game in this competition either, although that's usually been at home or after we've qualified. Guess the fact that he's on the plane means he likely starts and with the others that are out, can't say I'm displeased.

How long is Fletch out for and with what ?
Probably something like that with Valencia for Welbeck.

    Welbeck---Carrick---Scholes--Nani

Scholes and Carrick are locks to start.

It would seem like a good match for Brown, Fabio and Welbeck to get time from the start and possibly Macheda off the bench.

Has Ferguson even ever managed (or played in) a Champion's League/Euro Cup game in Russia?

I think thats not a bad idea. Go 3 in midfield with Carrick Anderson and Scholes, and if a sub needs to be made, then bring on Owen.

I would like to see something like this...

    --------Berbatov---------
    Wellbeck-------------Nani-
    --------Anderson----------
    -----Scholes-Carrick-------
    --------Backfour----------

Then if Rooney is fit enough for Liverpool, he would play upfront on his own. [not that I'd prefer that, but I would not be surprised]

Wont mind seeing Owen Welbeck or Owen Macheda, Berbatov played both games for his country then again on Saturday and his style makes him a prime target for lungers, Owen needs games to get his sharpness back infront of goal which we need because he is missing alot.

So are Robben, Reyes remember. As I said in other teams thread, debate our players with other team supporters and they will put our players at bottom at their positions.

Strange as this may sound, I actually want Scholes in Anderson's position. He could be lethal from there.

I like that formation, especially against middling opposition in Europe, but Ando played almost 90 on the weekend and one has to assume that he's in our plans for Liverpool with Fletcher's fitness in doubt. That said, if we are going to play Anderson, we should also play Owen and rest Berba. My logic is that Berba is tired and we'll need him sharp for the scum and Anderson in a creative role should thrive. I'd go with this:

    ----------------------Owen
    Welbeck---------------------------------Valencia
    ------------------Andersonsonson
    ----------Scholes
    ------------------------------Carrick
    O'Shea------------------------------------Fabio
    -----------------Vidic--------Ferdinand

I do recall being roundly laughed at in the Arsenal forum for saying Rossi was a superior talent to Lupoli a few years back, that Ronaldo was 'just as good as' (never at the time said better than) Reyes, and that Quincy Abeyie was being given too much credit, too soon...

Always find it funny how Wenger gets away with such a littany of failed signings/overhyped players over the last few years, compared to us.

Artificial turf might help us a bit. Do't see Berbatov being a big factor as our defense plays very well against slower paced strikers ( yes I know Berba is class ;) and if Ferguson did his homework then Owen will start for sure. He's a nightmare for our backlien style wise and he already destroyed our defense before when England beat Russia 3-0 in Wembley and he'll be seeing the same CB pair in Moscow.

What year was that? Have you seen Owen played lately? He is far from clinical nowadays.
