Mods can move this thread to the politics forum if that's more appropriate, but I thought that MLS fans might want to see some more detail on Anschutz's involvement in political publishing. It's mentioned from time to time, but this piece at Politico has some interesting details.

That's why I chuckled when folks got upset at Limbaugh's bid for the Rams.

Yeah, Limbaugh is a divisive gasbag but as sports owners go, there are many that are just as conservative, some more, than he is, they just keep a lower profile.

But hey, I accepted long ago that my sports teams, especially pro soccer, might be owned by people I disagreed vehemently with. It's either compartmentalize it or let my disagreements keep me from following and supporting the sports.

    I've chosen to compartmentalize.;)

Fwiw, the Examiner runs on a completely different business model than does the Post, so comparing the two isn't a very productive exercise.

Also, the media tends to describe him as 'reclusive' because he doesn't have much contact with the media. But the article itself goes on to describe him handing out copies of his paper at Metro stations--JD Salinger he ain't.

Maybe he's not such a bad guy after all.

Exactly. Not that I agree politically, but this post shows that there's plenty of room for his views in this country.

Then you missed the point. Limbaugh was rejected not because he was a conservative, but for the same reason that Howard Stern or Larry Flynt or Michael Moore would be.

I always figured Phil started MLS just to show up socialist European naysayers.

And possibly even more specifically than that, its hard to accept somebody who's publicly derided your product.
