1. Geoff Cameron 2. Jeff Cunningham 3. Omar Gonzalez 4. Robbie Findley 5. GAM 6. Dilly Duka 7. Zak Whitbread 8. Ryan Guy 9. Michael Orozco 10. Edgar Castillo 11. David Yelldell 12. Bradley Johnson
A couple of things. Duka is nowhere near the USMNT. He hasn't even received a professional paycheck. Cameron has played well and will probably get a look given the injures to Demerit and Marshall. Orozco is in a slump Gonzalez has a ton of potential but he still only a year out of college. I am a big Millwall fan and I have seen Whitbread play a bunch of times. He's good but it's impossible to tell how good. He's also injured so there is no time to bring him in this cycle. Castillo will get his chance Orozco is in the middle of a slump. GAM.. aka Eddie Johnson... we still need to see a lot more of him. I know we need a replacement for Davies but I think that is going to come with Dempsey moving up top and Holden get the starting RW spot. Yelldell.. we are not hurting at the GK spot. Findley.. maybe
Look at a different manner. Where do we need help? Goalie - No. Leftback - Yes Centerback - No. We have enough depth and it's too late to get someone prepared for the WC. Rightback - No. Midfield - No. Forward - Yes. We need a speed replacement for CD. Sure, we can move other players up front (LD and Dempsey), but you still would like to have someone on the bench. So, in that respect, I would invite those players who can help in the next 6-8 months at a speed forward position and leftback. Cunningham. Findley. Castillo.
Of guys not currently on the short list (such as Castillo, Cunnigham) I like Cameron. Don't know that he will be ready for SA, but I like what I've seen.
Grown Ass Man Eddie Johnson. It's a very old nickname based from an interview he gave when he was like 19 and on the national team. Some reporter asked if he played video games and Eddie said he didn't play video games because he was a "grown ass man!" So we used GAM for short.
I am an idiot. It serves me right to get up and do something else when writing a post and then come back and continute writing the post after I lost my initial train of thought.
I suspect because of the injuries and MLS playoff commitments there will be some new faces in the November friendlies. The games are set for Sat., Nov. 14 and Wed. Nov. 18. MLS Cup is Nov. 22 and the conference finals are the weekend of the 14/15th. So, any team playing that weekend won't be sending any players. Combine that with the myriad injuries to the Euro-based players and it creates opportunities for players like Jeff Cunningham, Heath Pearce (he's played pretty well for Dallas, albet at RB), Michael Orozco, Edgar Castillo, Marvell Wynne, etc... If Houston is somehow not in the conference finals, then I bet Cameron gets a look. I won't be at all surprised if Bradley calls up Omar Gonzalez if LA is eliminated in the first round. Another rookie I could see being called up to show what he's got is Kevin Alston, again, assuming his team isn't playing. It's a shame Rodney Wallace isn't naturalized yet; this would be a nice game to take a look at him, too. Basically, we'll have a much better idea of who will be available after the MLS playoffs are set.
Wynne, if Moor and Heap had so many chances ( both suck ), while Wynne proven his class against Dutch 23s and Argentina's 20s, also played against true World Power in Argentina in Copa America ( that Argentina, not today's Argentina ). Castillo, i doubt he would replace Bornstein, but it would try him out. He has attacking style leftback. Shea, a leftback more Sorin style, at his age their time for improvement. Picault. Why not? Guardado wasn't a starter or known before Germany 2006. it would good start out some fresh young player as Davies somewhat replacement. Diskerud, the Viking Kid seem more attacking midfielder it would good checkout young creative attacking player. Gonsalez. A young centrelback shown maturity with Galaxy, one reason Galaxy hasn't suck in backline. Our centrelbacks have sucking lately. DeGarza. the kid gave Barca tons of pain and rightback willing go to attack. Ashes as leftwinger super sub, he done well in Champion League, at times proven to be a difference maker. Jerome, Martinez and Recken some players would like to see. I do see Bradley taking risk such young players. Arguez might out because depth in that position, but he has skills to be there. Whats stats of that guido kid leftout of under 20s? I think he's in Serie C. What the hell happend to Ferrari?
1. Jones (he'd be there already if he was healthy) 2. Cunningham (especially with Charlie out for a good long while) 3. Castillo 4. Cameron --------------------------------- 5. EJ Is Movsisyan eligible?
I keep reading this on BS and I try to follow the gameday threads and somewhat follow the league and have yet to see evidence of this slump. Unless, two consecutive arguably poor performances constitutes a slump, which I don't think is the case. I say arguably, because all I am aware of is he got sent off [unjustly according to some who saw the game] against Toluca and may have otherwise been playing well and perhaps played poorly against Chiapas, though I haven't seen that confirmed. In Obewan's Mexican league gameday threads, there's no indication that he is in some prolonge slump. I have seen him only twice in the 13 games he's played and he scored in one and looked good in both. I am just wary of things becoming conventional wisdom on BS without actual evidence. If there is evidence of some slump, I have not seen it. If there is evidence of a sustained run of poor form, I wish someone would enlighten me.
players i would love to see get a chance Jeff Cunningham Orozco Eddie Johnson castillo and jones will get called up as soon as they are healthy! JC and EJ have speed and we all know what EJ has done in the past scoring wise and JC deserves his shot! Why EJ you ask, we need a speedy forward and national team call-ups can really help players... for example Gio do Santos hadn't done anything for a while but aguirre called him up had faith in him and kept him playing, i fell at times BB has had faith in the wrong players, like Beasley, ching, or pearce when it was clearly time for them to go and has been harsh on other players like Torres & Orozco even charlie davies in the beginning until he had no choice to put him on!
I feel like Cunningham's recent form is still some sort of optical illusion. Jones is the obvious answer if he ever has a decent shin. I guess I admittedly don't know the answer to this, but I do know it's not ABMOD.
Three things come to mind when I think of Charlie Davies. Speed. Power. Determination. Call me crazy but I often think of Wayne Rooney when I watch Davies play, maybe not the same touch but definitely the three aforementioned attributes. They are the same in both players to me. I cant think of any American who has all three at the level Charlie Davies could bring it....many have two and even then its not at the Davies level. If your talking about players(on the outside) who should get a chance to replace Davies I agree with most and say Eddie Johnson and Jeff Cunningham. Both players have at least two of the three qualities. Pick'em. If you bring Jones in it will set free midfield players(already on the team) to move forward and you can forget about Johnson and Cunningham.
I am loath to make predictions in this world of perpetual uncertainty...and if I am wrong, well, I will start a thread that says I was wrong and I will do 50 pushups as punishment ...but here goes. Jeff Cunningham will NOT see the inside of USMNT dressing room in this cycle.
I would like to see... 1.Cunningham 2.Gonzales 3.Jones 4.Castillo right now i see Altidore, Cooper, and Casey as our current forwards, Cunningham could bring us some depth, and with our 2 central defenders injured, now is the time to give some new people a look.
As much as I don't like him, there may be a place for Cunningham. Davies was a speed forward that helped stretch a defnse. Cunningham could do the same and might be the best option for that. I don't think BB will go too far with three big guys. My biggest knock on Cunningham is his tendency to be offsides
