I'm just speculating. Hiddink made it clear he wanted to move to the EPL after Russia and with Chelsea and Ancelotti doing rather well...Liverpool would seem like the likely choice.

I think he is done with Russia after the WC.

    Some interesting facts;
Russia lost their 1st home game to Germany - ever, in a WC qualidier.

Here is even one more surprising. Germany have never lost an away qualifier - ever. The only matches lost in WC qualifiers are a loss to Portugal in the 80's or early 90's and the famous 1-5 thrashing in Munich by England in 2001.

WOW!! that 1st goal should never have happened.

The penalty - that IS a penalty. Call it what you like, the goalie rushed the player and as much as we all know that he made a meal out of it, it is a penalty.

Was he going to reach the ball? probably not.
Did he totally exagerate his moves? Hell yeah!
Was it a penalty? Yup! A very soft penalty but I can't blame the ref for calling it from what I saw.
As much theatrics as there were, frankly I would have been surprised if he did not call it.

Cris - what those highlights don't show is that on the other side of the field, our guys were jumping up and down yelling for a handball when Valencia hit a cross into the box and it hit off the guys arm. Intentional or not...it stopped the ball and is a straight penalty according to all the rules I know. The part of the play shown in the highlights started with a pass from that guy's arm!

As far as the PK, I'll be honest I'm not sure the exact rule, but what I have usually seen from most referees is that even if there's contact, they will book the player for a dive, UNLESS the contact was hard enough to take him down. Elizaga definitely made contact, but it was light at worst and Cavani clearly throws himself down because he had a difficult angle.

I'd like to get the story of their first goal from one of the players or someone in the stadium. People were still celebrating and the next thing you know, Forlan has the ball in the penalty box and La Sombra is the only guy back to defend. I have no idea how those guys got so open, because it wasn't a counterattack - the play started from a kickoff in the center of the field!! There's no reason we shouldn't have had 6 guys in the penalty area.

It's hard to explain to someone who didn't watch the game, and just watching the highlights...those were 2 of the strangest goals scored against us in the entire qualifying campaign.

Heres what chaps my ass about the whole situation:

    1. On one end of the field, it's a clear penalty kick....no call

    2. Seconds later on the other end of the field, a potential penalty situation, albeit a questionable one...a call

    3. Forlan takes the kick, game ends that minute.

The point is that with 1 minute left, if the ref doesn't call it for one, he shouldn't call the other...no es justo. But whatever, that's futbol and it adds to the drama of the game. We shot ourselves in the foot by not scoring more, period.

do you know what chaps my ass??? How does Bolivia who supposedly aren't as good as Ecuador beat all the big teams in La Paz,while we can't even score more than one goal:they beat Argentin 6-1,pARAGUAY 4-2,bRAZIL 2-1 TODAY,and only got an unlucky last minute tie against Uruguay 2-2..I can't lie they have way better forwards than us..that Marcelo Martins is bomb...They seriosluy know how to take advantage of playing at home,I think we should learn from them!!

Simple. even they have quality forwards we, don't. So the few times they do get a chance they come through. They don't have Benitezes or Caicedos like we... and they are better for it.

ya honestly, they outbeat us in that category because there forwards actually know how to score a goal, while we still haven't found a guy to replace el tin delgado and its been two years! But, I still wouldn't categorize Bolivia as an overall better team, seeing the goleadas theyve received pretty much every game, but at least their guys can score a goal when they have the chance, while at home I don't think we've even scored more than two goals, except the 5-1 to peru,3-1 to bolivia, and the 2-0 Argentina, but then the rest were ties and shitty wins like the one against Chile.Honestly,I can say that these eliminatorias we have been the team that has wasted the most points at home including losses and ties!!!iS THERE ANY WAY TO CONFIRM THIS???

YA TRUE,BUT PRETTY BAD CONSIDERING WE'RE PLAYING IN ALTITDUE AND ALSO CONSIDERING THAT last qualfiers we were undefeated at home, only tieing in the last few matches at home, and now these qualfiers we've lost two times at home, one to venezuela and the other to Uruguay, unbelievable, and tied games that shouldn't have been tied:heres the list:pAraguay 1-1,Brazil 1-1,Uruguay 2-1,Venezuela 0-1,Colombia 0-0,and I think thats it,but our home form has been terrible these qualfiers,I would say Ecuador has played a bit better in the last few away games,at least beating Bolivia and Peru in their stadiums, but besides the weaker teams,we've ********ed up against Argentina in the last minutes, and lost to Venezuela 3-1 in Puerto La cruz, this is all our defense and forwards is fault, how could this happen man, Honestly, I feel soo shitty right now,I can't wait until the World Cup ends because I won't be able tob
ear not wearing my jersey around and not seeing my team

exactly...theres no more to it than that.

The difference b/t us and every other team besides Peru and Colombia is that ALL THE TEAMS have a goleador, at least one good one, and we don't. We have everything BUT that, and at the end of the day it seems like that's all that matters.

I remember when everyone was hyped before the 2007 Copa america saying that el chucho was the replacement for el tin, including me I thought this guy must be good hes scoring goals in Mexico soo lets see what this guys made of,The first game came around against Chile and he scored and excellent header I was amazed at first and thought this guy comes out at the right time and place he might be the successor.Soon we played el salvador in Quito in a friendly and he scored two times,he megged two defenders and went around the goalkeeper to score, later on we thought he would do something in the qualfiers, but we were sadly wrong, and today he has only scored three goals in these qualfiers!!

thanks,it's very true though we don't have effective forwards and we seriously don't hknow how to play the alititude advantage as we used to,it seems like Ecuador of '06 has reincarnated themselves into Bolivia these qualfiers of course speaking in terms of playing at home, because not even Ecuador beat the big teams this year in Quito, and I actually believed in our squad but I guess I was wrong, but withall do respect,Benitez blows the man had such an easy chance and he missed it,I would say that if that was el tin or el nine that would have been in the back of the net,and they would have pulled out a spiderman mask!!! to celbrate.Honestly, we can't deny guys we've been through a rollercoaster of emotions these qualfiers..am I right? Ecuador winning against Argentina one day, only to lose to Venezuela, honestly,I've been a nervous wreck these whole games lol and everytime the qualfier began again I thought that beniotez changed after his screwups and that he would start scoring, but I was wrong him and Caicedo are still the same ******** ups as usual, but as long as we don't find some goleadores in this team,we will havee to resort to mediocres such as Mamita Calderon,Ebelio Ordonez,GUstavo Figueroa, and now newly inducted Benitez and Caicedo

I saw it on the review on Teleamazonas and Gushmer agreed that its not a penalty. The ball hit him in the chest first and not on the arm.

Honestly, due to the television angle, it's a bit difficult to tell as a viewer, but it looked like a handball due to how he was standing and how it hit off his body.

HOWEVER, what I find more convincing is that there was IMMEDIATELY a huge ROAR from the crowd, and the players nearby starting jumping up and down claiming a penalty. Unless you think thousands of people and the players decided at the same time to try to fool the referee (that would be a lot of yellow cards), it really SMELLS like a PK.

You want to know my honest opinion? I think the ref saw it, but decided it was unintentional and not in a dangerous area - all of which is true, but it's still a PK.

Fifa is a piece of sh!t man. Its called freakin technology. That's what will serve justice. Not these biased 50 something year old canosos with stupid looking expressions on their face. No one gave that punk trouble when he was leaving the stadium?. I know I wouldve talked to him.

I don't think instant replay and goal line technology should be put into the game. Part of the beauty and drama of the game goes into the fallibility of the referees. Were we unjustly treated in Quito vs. Uruguay? I don't know. But look at the Norwegian ref that didn't call the PK to Chelsea vs. Barcelona in Stamford Bridge with like a minute left, even with Ballack screaming in his ear- that ref was shadier than the one we had but still no cigar. What they should be able to do is appeal bogus yellows post-match with an independent arbitration committee because I think that is actually the biggest problem with soccer right now.

We want to blame the referee because he's an easy scapegoat. We have all admitted the fault of our own players for not scoring when they had the chance, that's the saddest part of all of this. If that was a PK, we still could have won if we just scored our damn goals beforehand. Also, our team has had some really bad management of the clock in the last few minutes of the game. Instead of jumping up and down and standing flat footed with just a minute left in an intensely heated match, just raise your hand for the call and run back into position because it was that lack of concentration for one second that killed us. We should have known they were looking for the counterattack because they were doing it all game, they capitalized on our mental lapse. The game against Argentina in Buenos Aires as well as the game against Paraguay in Quito...the same BS, we blew it in descuentos! The team has experience, which is what baffles me the most...how do we lose focus right at the end?!?! How do we not keep composure?? Where is the leadership down the stretch?? The blame lies on a lot of people, but at the end of the day we did it to ourselves. And we do have a right to be upset at everybody: the ref, players, Vizuete, the federacion, Uruguay for the trickery right at the end.....but ask yourselves this, would we have done the same thing if put in that golden chance 1-on-1 with the keeper? Hell yes!

yeah....i agree. It was the loudest thing I have ever heard in a stadium. All I could hear is EVERYONE JUMP UP and say "MANO!!". I think everyone saw what they saw, and majority rules. I wasn't in the stadium, but honestly for more than 40,000 people to react in that manner....it's kinda obvious it was.

But we shouldn't go so deep into this whole subject and blame the ref for our result. If our forwards or any other player would nail the ball in the net, we would CARE LESS about what the ref did. That game against Uruguay is already said and done and there's no way of changing anything. There's only one final game against Chile and whatever happens, happens....all I must say is that for our next Qualifier we won't be seeing Hurtado, Elizaga, Cevallos, Espinoza, Reasco, and Tenorio. and If Mendez continues he'll be 32-33, Ayovi will be 32-33. We need to start thinking of renewing this team and who the candidates are.

We need to start getting Jairo Campos, Deison Mendez, Diego Calderon, Michel Castro, Fernando Guerrero, Luis Bolanos, Miller Bolanos, Michael Arroyo, Holger Matamoros, Jefferson Pinto, MJ Quinonez, Fidel Martinez, Juan Paredes, Wilson Folleco, Alexander Dominguez, Maximo Banguera, Manuel Mendoza, and Joao Rojas ready for our next Qualifier STARTING NOW if we don't manage to win tomorrow. It's going to be a whole new process and players like Mendez, Ayovi and Reasco should stick around to show these kids a thing or two and then hang up their cleats. Our next Qualifier HAS to be a completely NEW defense with a NEW goalkeeper and hopefully A NEW PAIR OF FORWARDS. I think our midfield will continue to be really strong even if Mendez and Ayovi aren't there anymore. Castillo still got another Qualifier and definitely Valencia.

And if Guerron, Benitez, and Caicedo want to continue being part of this team, they need to bring their act together.
