This is a rather late start to the 2009 thread for the Lady Toreros, but then they didn't have anything new up at their site for a loooonnggg time. So far, they've played fairly uneven for a team that has been ranked as high as #12 already this year.

    USD draws with UCLA!

Here was the early Union-Tribune article on the top womens' teams in the San Diego area.

Was curious to see how this team was doing after some early season controversy with them being overrated...

They are now 6-4-2 after a tie against Long Beach State tonight.

    Losses include:
    1 - 2 Cal State Bakersfield (RPI #209)
    0 - 3 Ohio State
    0 - 5 Kansas
    0 - 4 USC

Their only win over a team with a record above .500 is Rutgers (RPI #54)

Tie against UCLA is a real outlier.

Next game is opening of conference play against Santa Clara. The Santa Clara and Portland games are their last chances to get a marquee win (RPI better than #50) for the season to even begin to make a case for the NCAA tournament.

They are, somehow, still receiving votes in the latest NSCAA poll.

This upcoming game is really important for both teams. Both have had trouble putting the ball in the back of the net. When you have trouble scoring, results become unpredictable.

Saw the game. There is no way Santa Clara is a top 20 team. Their lineup is littered with great talent, but the product on the field is not doin it. This game featured a mediocre team getting a win over an underachieving one. USD needed this win, but Santa Clara is not the win it once was.
