Updated salaries. http://www.mlsplayers.org/files/september_15_2009_salary_information__by_club.pdf Kamara= 55k Zoltan= 165K I knew Kamara was under paid. didn't think that Zoltan would make that much, especially considering our other international signing of the year Hirsig is making 75k. Maybe Zoltan's number is prorated or something?
oh and rough guess on the total salary of the team minus the exclusions is around 1.9 mil, one of the lowest of the leagues. If we miss the playoffs we will have the room and the money to buy without subtracting. Nice. Though still, why have that space? why be 400K under the cap, that is also the number a DP would count against... Just sayin.
Nice to see the vast majority of the lowest paids got a bump to 34k. That's at least a livable salary. I wish they would release this in an Excel file so you could play with the sorting and calculate averages and such.
Most likely it's prorated, no way we pay him that much just for the part of the season he's been here. That's a big chunk of change for a guy who hasn't even started yet... It looks like we should have plenty of cap room for next year to re-sign guys like Kamara.
Unless something has fundamentally changed and no one sent me a memo, that isn't the way league salaries work. Player salaries are paid by the league, other than DP over ~= 400K.
..... or sometimes people are more interested in the game and they simply forget the obscure centrally controlled systems that bankroll it .... Little slack man.
Yea - I don't think the frustration is with _you_ in particular but that we go over it time and time again... Consider it to be as much frustration with the fact that the league setup is difficult enough to make it so unintuitive.
This is what I got, but I could've screwed something up, so let me know if you got something different. The Adj. totals are totals with everyone but Donovan's salary capped at $400k. I realize that this is probably not 100% accurate, but I didn't want to spend too much thinking on this or anything. Take it as you will. You almost have it, the only thing you are missing (I think), is dropping the GA's from each team's salary. SJ has none, we have 2. That's why we're only ahead of RSL...
Regardless of proceedures or whose name is on the checks paid to KC players, at some point there is a mechanism that determines if KC has a competitive salary and therefore a better chance at a competitive team or if they don't. KC is on bottom of the salary table and will end up near bottom of the actual table. Someone had a hand in deciding this would be as it is. Saying, the league office pays the checks doesn't excuse anything, it's just a mechanism to hide money flow among other benefits. End of the day, owners own. Somehow the money flows to them. I've only seen one system of business where the people to whom the money flowed (or ebbed from) didn't have a direct say in how much they spent in determination of the eventual flow. That would be the payors into the mafia's unique sytem, BTW. KC spent to lose. No one should be shocked they lost often. If the mechanism isn't the KC front office, then who is the mechanism? Surely no one throws darts at dartboards to decide. Just as clearly it isn't an open invite for all to sign whoever at whatever cost. Saying MLS negotiates and pays salary isn't covering the question of why KC is not in a salary position to compete. It's actually like having a shell holding company to hide who is really doing what transaction where. Further, is the mechanism the MLS brass? Is it a league mandate that KC (or any team be at the upper or lower end of salary? So, which is it? Are KC's Owners fudging on the cost of a competitive team due to revenue limits OR does the league dictate how owners can spend and go after players based on expected revenue? Obviously this system, whatever it is, changes team to team. Just as obviously KC is bent over under this system curently. If KC isn't able to buck up today due to financial limits, then fine. That's a financial decision that has to be accepted today as KCW srives for a better base of game operations. It would be nice if someone, MLS or Owner, had the balls to say so, rather than operate under the guise of a happy accident in salary deficiency that has contributed to KC missing the playoffs yet again. As a fan you wait all off season for a signing that would fit under any and all restrictions including money. Instead what we fans recieved is the announcement of a historic coup of re-signing the single most overpaid person in KC history to a reasonable salary. Hooray. It may be an MLS empty suit's name on the checks, but it is ownership/mgmt. that determines if KC is competitive or not. At some point, they set a target of sliding into the playoffs at worst, undercut the salary budget thinking it should still be enough, fell way short of even the worst level of goals, and now get to draft early while remaining irrelevant on a league stage. Yes, I know they are unbeaten in a bunch. That will mean so much when KC starts at zeros next March...baring 18 results going exactly right anyway. OK, done with that. To the entire salary table, take out Beckham and things look more even. Someone's head should roll in NY and DC obviously. Chicago's on the way high end. Places that have sell-outs all the time should be at a higher level, and are.

There doesn't seem to be a very strong correlation between salary and table position. Columbus, Houston etc are within 16% of our salary. I somehow doubt raising our salaries by 10-15% would make all the difference. So, I decided to go back and add attendance ranks to correlate those with salaries. And, because anything is better than actually working, I graphed them with some *very* basic correlation analysis. Based on this, I'd say salary is completely unrelated to performance or attendance.
