GBS transcends time and will be MVP in 2020. Why procrastinate?

I'm waiting for him to come back to Boca and help us win another Club World Cup, so I can finish on a high note. :D

No, really, I'd like to write something up on him one of these days. He's a true idol of Boca Juniors and also probably the most influential foreigner in the MLS, even though he's not as glamorous as a certain other.

    Retarded trolling as was expected.

    Intelligent post as was expected.

Anyway, I heard about this when I checked Email and found three messages from friends or family who live in Chicago, all of whom voted for Obama and all of whom are glad this baby is Rio's problem.

Now, if Obama blows our chances at the World Cup...

Self-inflicted political wound. He should have stayed home.

This was going to Rio and the Chicago team knew it -- unfortunately, they were able to convince Obama to go to Copenhagen thinking it would be their path to victory.

Chicago was never going to win (or any other US city for that matter) so for Obama to insert himself into this was stupid.

Of course, all of the Becks, Hannitys, etc. will have a field day rejoicing in the defeat of Obama. Had Obama not gone, they would be cursing the IOC for not selecting Chicago.

Nah, this is the reason. The Euros were probably going to go Chicago or Madrid. With Samaranch, the former President of the IOC working his old friends, it probably took a lot away from any momentum that Chicago could get. Asia probably went overwhemingly for Tokyo while SA went for RDJ.

Chicago lost because Obama has less career goals than Pele and Raul.

Send Landon Donovan next time. :D

Don't really care. With the professionals being a part of the Olympics and the rampenent drug use, the Olympics just aren't that compeling to me.

Besides, I couldn't get very excited about the Olympics in Chicago. Just like Atlanta.

As far as Obama, I have always taken a wait and see approach (like any president no mater which party). I think that my biggest fear is coming to fruition in that the pile that he inherited is just going to be too much, especially with a divided country.

Oh, by the way, this probably had more to do with it...

    http://my.earthlink.net/article/us?guid=20091002/4ac588d0_3426_13350200910023665817

. . .{local} opponents had serious concerns about Olympics-sized hassles and bills, despite assurances by city officials that taxpayers wouldn't owe a dime.

A recent poll by the Chicago Tribune showed residents almost evenly split, with 47 percent in favor of the bid and 45 percent against; that's a drop from the 2-1 support the newspaper found in a February poll. The 2016 bid committee said its own poll last week found support from 72 percent of Chicagoans.

I am sure Fox News is already proclaiming him a lame-duck President due to this epic fail.

I would say at most about 25% of the people from Chicago I know actually wanted the games here, so it's not like everyone is upset around here.

When O announced he was going to Copenhagen (who wouldnt want to go to Copenhagen) the GOP was ready with their denunciation press release. I assume if he didnt go they would have praised him on the same criteria, right?

Id like to see the other prepared release, the one denouncing him for not going.

There is no consistency or sincerity whatsoever in the GOP or in their propaganda outlets. They operate entirely in the interests of the corporate elites while pandering to the rube values element. Expect their reaction to the announcement to follow those lines. If Chicago had gotten it they would had a contrary set of denunciations for that as well.

Here's another question...if Obama can't get the Olympics to Chicago, how is a biscuit going to eat a panda? How? HOW!!!!

On a more serious note...look at this thread...can anyone doubt that conservatives want America to fail if it makes Obama look bad? These mother********ers want us to lose in Afghanistan. They want the economy to fail. They are anti-American.

Not as glamorous but much more effective. One of the funny things about soccer is how it connects people. I tutor kids but some react when I talk about soccer and they seem to respect Guille. Damn glad he plays for the Crew.

I'll be shocked shitless if anyone cares about this in a week.

It wasn't stupid, it wasn't smart, it's just something for the Villagers, and the people who don't see through them, to chatter about. It's like 6 year olds playing soccer.

Spanish King Juan Carlos and PM Jose Luis Zapatero rejected!

Japanese Prime Minister Yukio Hatayama rejected!

The amazing heightening of the stakes in Olympic bidding is the real story here. Despite all of the issues in each country and globally, you have two presidents, two prime ministers, and king all lobbying for the games. That's incredible. For Chicago to have any chance at all, Obama had to go.

You obviously underestimate the cockroach-like endurance of human ignorance, and the ability of people like Beck, Hannity, et al., to squeeze as much mileage out of this as possible.

Will I care about this in a week? I don't care now. But my guess is this will be a substantial part of the anti-Obama narrative for some time.

You never know, the IOC is very "peculiar." By which I mean corrupt and autarchic. His showing up put the fear of God into the other candidacies, if that's any measure.

It's self-inflicted, but not just by himself. The Chicago team did a shoddy job of lobbying. I still think that with more Obama time and effort they would've done much better. He should've known what he was getting into on his own side of things.

Actually, they would've been ripping him for not going to lobby the IOC.

But instead, they get to celebrate America's failure, so it's a good day for them anyway.

According to the former Danish IOC member Kai Holm, it was the very short five hour visit by Obama that hurt the Chicago Olympic Bid, not really because of what Obama said or did, but simply because of the short time that he spend on it.... The IOC members saw it as lack of respect from an American President, to think that it will make a difference if you only spend around an hour with the IOC members...

it's a little annoying that brazil gets the WC and the Olympics within a 2 year span.
