Silence is golden - And a sign of a professional team

    Silence is golden

    Silence is golden

It may be frustrating to see blow ups on the field, but thoese happen - I play in front of an often hot-headed goallee who yells at me every now and then - But he does so to others - Mainly because being in his postion he can physically see more than any single defender - And, yeah, sometimes I screw up or I'm slow getting to a mark - So he yells, but then the next play he'll yell encouragement after a great play - But thats what happens in front of the net when your midfield is a defensive sieve that lets all sorts of pressure through all the time and when your offense is foolishly turning the ball over without getting a decent shot off on goal

Is it frustrating to see this on the field - Sorta - What would be worse if it spilled obviously over onto the sideline and into the lockerroom and to the press in public or on twitter or anything else on the net - But it doesn't and thats why I'm glad DC United staff and players are handling this professionally behind closed doors and not in the public

Ditto for the Szetela situation - On so many other professional teams this type of situation would be open and ugly - Entertaning maybe if your a fan of an opposing team, but ugly nonetheless - Pro football, basketball and baseball and even soccer in Euro leagues have many examples of this type of situation [Player benched; not playing; coach pissed; player pissed] thats open and ugly, but not here at DC United - Yeah, I'm as frustrated at Soehn for many, many reasons as any other fan, but the handling of this situation behind closed doors is NOT one of them

Silence is golden - And the sign of a professional team

Side Note: This sorta reminds me of the time several years ago, when Rooney was imploding badly on ManU and the national team, getting petulant Red Cards in UEFA CL games (the year when ManU came in FOURTH in the group) and Ferguson said nothing - Only the most bland of statements about how Wayne is calming down and how he'll settle down and things will work out OK - But nothing from behind the scenes about what he told Rooney specifically or about any arguements between them - Silence is golden - And the sign of a professional team

The difference is, Rooney was still getting time on the pitch.

I see the silence is golden point, but remember the Oakland A's who won the MLB playoffs three years in a row in the 70s and then the Yankees with Reggie, Billy Martin, et. al., and it was just the opposite of silence, but full on successful. I'd rather have the silence and the extreme professionalism than the side show, but the made for teevee drama isn't all bad when it wins.

There may be an informal rule put forth by the players in the lockerroom.

Let's just call it the "Freddy Rule"

My family was talking about it tonight and we all thought the Wicks no comment was a negative thing. Why not just say they made up and it is behind them? The no comment makes it seem like he is still angry.

Having watched Wicks for a while now, I think I'd have exploded a lot earlier then Burch did. James gave him crap earlier in the game for not calling for the ball. I think the players have tired of Wicks yelling and finger pointing. I've seen similar stuff from Tim Howard, but I think Wicks is much worse in that aspect.

I know some goalies are just like that. As a player, I've learned to tune it out. But, man, Wicks was in his face and, maybe, Burch just had too much of it.

Wicks/Burch? OK, they lost their shit during a game and it worked out fine. Don't want to talk about it? Cool.

Szetela? Bullshit. This ain't a kidnapped reporter in Pakistan. This is a sports team who asks people to plunk down dollars and time to support them.

It's crap when Bellicek does this stuff in the NFL. It's crap when it gets done for a lot less dollars in MLS.

Shit, I have wanted to "do a Wicks" on Burch in nearly every match I've seen him play! Somebody needed to get into his lackadaisical grill.

Hopefully Wicks was saying "I hope you can use your right foot for more than a crutch."
