2-1 Lens. Both teams with a player sent off

Lens down to 10 men. If a USMNT player had gotten yellow cards for what the Lens leftback did (a hard slide tackle that didn't actually touch his man & a shirt tug), the US Nat boards would be filled with hissy fits about how the ref was terrible and biased against the US.

Rennes manages to get a point with a stoppage time header goal off a header off a corner kick to tie the game at 2-2 (Boca wasn't involved, though he was in the box).

Rennes was the better side in this away match. They had most of the play in the first half, several excellent occasions to go up 2-0 and found themselves victim of a very questionable penalty call when Lens was down to 10 after a red for their defender Ramos. A red for Rennes brought it to 10v10 before Lens scored the go-ahead goal in the second half on a corner. It was only justice that Rennes saved the tie with a last minute goal.

Boca was quiet with a couple of well-placed crosses which could have been better handled. He was never put in difficulty defensively, the Rennes backline working well together. The tall Senegalese Mangane on the right is more prone to making errors.

Rennes has a good combination of younger and more experienced players this year. They've beefed up their offensive potential with some athletic strikers and still have the Japanese Inamoto and last years scorer Briand to work into the side. They aren't far behind the "elite" Ligue 1 sides. The potential is there but they'll have to show more realism in winnable matches like yesterdays.

Thanks for the report, I wasn't sure if rennes had improved their team from last season. Hopefully they can improve upon their habitual mid-top table finishes.

    What's up with Jimmy Briand?

Last year, whenever I saw him, he was doing something awesome.

Still recovering from an injury he sustained while training with Les Bleus last season.
