Details regarding the draft are here: http://www.womensprosoccer.com/Home/news/general/090818-expansion-draft.aspx My 10 1. Smith 2. Scott 3. LePeilbet 4. Hucles 5. Mitts 6. Rodriguez 7. Lipsher 8. Fabiana 9. Lilly 10. Weber After losing first player: 1. Nobis 2. Latham After losing second player: 1. Monroe Protecting Tomeka would be silly because she will be back in residency (most likely) next summer. Goffi is basically a Beat player, just waiting til September til it's official. If anyone wants Chapman or Moore, more power to them. We lose Chaps then we can trade with Sky Blue to get Karen Bardsley. Just a thought.
Just curious. Do you say that b/c you've heard the player wax nostalgic about her time in Atlanta? Or is your statement an assumption based on the fact that she played there 6 years ago? A lot happens in 6 years and she may not at all be interested in moving back to Atlanta--not everyone wants to move back to their hometown.
Well, this is all pure speculation because we do not know the contract status of the players....You cannot protect a free agent. We don't know who, if anyone, are free agents. I've heard that most contracts are 1+1+1(team options) but there are some that only signed 1 year contracts. I'd really like to know who those players are before speculating about it But going by Matty's list... I don't want to lose Latham or Nobis...because our team becomes much less funny.. I'd protect Chapman over Weber..and I'd keep Goffi as well. Make Atlanta trade for her like Philly will for Mittsie. I'd gamble and not protect Lilly or Lipsher. I think they'll be better GK's available than Alli, if we lose her it's not a huge loss. Lil will never play for anyone else, she'll retire if chosen. That said, there's no way Boston doesn't protect Lilly & Lipsher. Breakers boss charts a different course Cummings said both U.S. national team legend Kristine Lilly, 38, and English star Kelly Smith will return in 2010. Man I miss Joe already.
From Joe's Twitter: (5:00AM btw!) BreakersGM Next to last week with the Breakers but still lots to do, all on the player side. Mutual options, decisions for expansion, etc. This guy is awesome. Line up those ducks Joe!! I feel better!
Cummings is perhaps the most dedicated soul out there to the game of soccer and especially in the New England area (at least on the admin. side- players and coaches excluded). For him to leave the team and organization in anything less than 1000% condition would not sit well with him. To say that the next GM has big shoes to fill is quite the understatement. The man and his heart are beyond huge and he remembers every last detail! Working with him was one of the highlights of my life.
Angela Hucles Amy LePeilbet Kristine Lilly Amy Rodriguez Alex Scott Kelly Smith Fabiana Heather Mitts Christine Latham Candace Chapman Maggie Tomecka Sue Weber Jennifer Nobis I dithered about Mitts and Latham, but I figure they probably have trade value, and then we'd get something back for them. On the other hand, I'd bet that Heather winds up in Philly anyway, so maybe no one would dare take her. (I lived through the Mets leaving Tom Seaver unprotected once, assuming no one would take him, and he won his 300th game with the White Sox instead. Yes, I grew up in NY and am a Mets fan. Sue me.) I thought Maggie showed promise in the middle, and I assume she could probably find a hospital up here somewhere (I think there's a few around ) to continue her medical career if she still wants to play. I'm sure the Breakers will have better intelligence about her career plans than I do. Nobis had her chances, and didn't get the ball in the net often enough. I'm guessing we can replace her if necessary.
Indeed. On another thread, I saw where the FCGP GM said the lists were "secret." (I of course maintain that twitter word limit or not, the lists aren't secret--too many other people know what they say--just not the public)
I know, right. Accuracy is important. Said tweet also included the fact that they left 9 players unprotected--two more than Boston. Who on Boston's team is a free agent that can't be part of the expansion draft? let the speculation commence.
Washington Freedom's protected list from Goff: http://voices.washingtonpost.com/soccerinsider/2009/08/dcu_freedom_u-20s.html
more speculation from Jen Striker's blog: August 28, 2009 Unprotected in Boston? 1. Abby Crumpton 2. Nancy Augustyniak Goffi 3. Mary Frances Monroe 4. Sophia Mundy 5. Christine Latham 6. Maggie Tomecka 7. Kristin Luckenbill
The Breakers completed a loan agreement with Swedish Club Pitea on Friday afternoon, which will allow Jennifer Nobis to play in the Damallsvenskan in Sept.-Oct.-Nov., after which her contract will resume with the Breakers. This should be announced by our club tomorrow and has already been posted on a website affiliated with Nobis' agent here: http://www.cwfootball.com/news. Read into that what you will, as regards the expansion draft. Andy
