Today's win has got me all sorts of frisky and looking forward to next season in our NEW stadium! On that note, I've been toying with the idea of trying to start a new 'English-style' Supporter's Group for the new stadium, and on such a high note, I feel today is a perfect day to start gauging interest. While I appreciate the ESC, and other groups, I don't feel I align with their views and various song styles. Being a fan of the EPL, I am partial to their style of chanting, and enjoy the fact it isn't viewed as something that needs to be done throughout the entire match, rather at times to pep up the team, or whenever the mood strikes. Ideally, the chants would be easy for everyone, member and non-, to participate in, and for the most part, pretty clean. We could draw inspiration from existing Supporter Groups' chants in the EPL, and other lesser divisions, as well as some original ones. Anyone interested in helping, PM me. Again, we would not be at odds with ESC and such, however, in the new stadium, I envision us sitting in separate sections as well. Thanks, and I CAN'T BELIEVE WE ********ING WON AGAIN!!!!
I was thinking: "Come on City! Come on City!" And pending an official appointment of Head Coach: "Richie Williams' Red Army! Richie Williams' Red Army!"
A few people I know locally, are trying to put together a group, they have about 15-20 people already for RB Arena. There toying with the name "The NY/NJ Alliance"
The same style I'm trying to form up too?!? What's their e-mail? Or you can pass along my screen name here and have them PM me!
And then hear your boring chants? If people want to join him, then let him. For ********'s sake, let people enjoy their team the way they want to... By the way, take the first statement with a grain of salt.. Edit: McCafe's aren't unique to America, son.
hmm...so should the people involved with the ESC and GSS move to europe or south america? because a majority of both supporters clubs chants derive from those regions.
what's the beef with multiple supporter's groups? the only gripe i would have is that if you had multiple small-medium sized groups it could take a way from one or two large groups that could stage HUGE ideas for banners and flags. but whatever, let the team, its culture, and its fan grow freely.
I wish you guys the best of luck orginizing new supporters clubs. We definitly need to have more loud fans as we venture into our new stadium. As far as i understand it, all the supporters clubs wil be in the same section next year. It would be a good idea to contact the leaders of the esc, gss and rbn. That way we can organize our efforts next year.
guys i don't mean to start an argument with all of you. the guy says he wants to start an 'English style' supporters group. I understand that our supporters group derives from various regions in the world. it just bothers me that a lot of people put English fanatism on a pedestal. why BE like something already made? why can't people just think outside the box and let American fanatism towards the game be born by itself? just let the natural process of a tradition take over. It is not going to happen overnight. EPL has more than a century of existence, we have 14! have fun, good luck to you. we need more fans anyway!
I didn't mind to present myself as aggressive, either. Consider this, if you will: In a soccer/football match, what would you rather hear? A. D-Fence! Charge! Let's Go Red Bull! (a la Americana) -or- B. Chanting in homage to your club? Come on Red Bull, Come on Red Bull! Going nuts for a corner kick? etc. (a la EPL or Bundesliga) -or- C. A mixture of both? Personally, I'd go with B. I prefer the American way of support with our national sports (Baseball, Football, and Basketball) and I prefer British/German/Spanish/Italian/French/etc./etc. way of supporting the world's sport. But, there is a solution to every problem!
I appreciate all the 'well-wishers' and to the one who felt threatened by the prospect, I apologize. As I've stated before, I do not wish to be at odds with the other groups, and therefore would wish to stay seperate in all aspects, including seating at the arena. I understand the EPL, and other divisions' clubs have been around for over 100 years, and they in turn have pages and pages of various chants. Our brief history has given us a few we will use, possibly in conjunction with the other groups, but we will have to 'borrow' a few and change the words, just as nearly all songs here in use have been. Again, if anyone is even remotely interested, please PM me and we can get a bit of a dialogue going, and hopefully get something together for the opener, sometime in late-March, early-April I assume...
C'mon people! 410 people to this point have looked into this thread! There's gotta be some people out there interested...
That's just not going to happen. RB already designated certain sections for supporters clubs. So if you were to form such a club, you'd be sitting (standing) with the rest of them.
Mmmm, maybe. Or you could just buy a block of seats and start your own club. But there in lies the difficulty: You need to organize all your members soon in order to be sure you can all sit together.
Not to discourage you, but the sad fact is there just are not many people interested in really supporting Red Bull expirment. Trust me, ESC was able to double their membership by changing the way we did things in 2007 but have only made marginal gains in 2008 and 2009. The sad reality is that while there are many many people that love this sport and are passionate about this sport in the NYC region, only a very small sub section of a larger group that is interested in MLS are willing to get behinf Red Bull. I have recruited in the market for 3 years now and the interest in Red Bull just isn't there. For fans that just go to an occasional match and dont follow the team intensely the expirment isnt quite as detrimental, but to do the volunteer, grassroots, and pasisoate things a supporter does - it requires a deep connection to the team you support and sadly that type of emotional investment in lacking when your team doesn't have an identity you can latch onto. Good luck, but don't be too discouraged if you get only a small sample of responses.
I would add to Onion's advice by saying if you can't make it happen, give joining up with an existing club a try for a season. You can always leave, but you may end up getting used to the alternative and you may enjoy the company.
Again, I appreciate the positive feedback. In regards to the comment about the supporter's only area, I'm not too worried about that, the logistics of seating can always be hammered out after we get enough people to warrant this. And I don't really think having a presence all around the arena would be that bad anyways. And regarding the amount of supporters, again, I'm not expecting to get 300 to sign up immediately. I'd much rather start small, and let the smaller groups of fans who would like to participate, but aren't too keen on either the songs being sung now or the people singing them (i.e. myself), see what we are, and join up then. My major goal is to start small, use clean chants that are easy to pick up on, and make the most noise throughout the park. I would love to be able to have groups of youth soccer kids be able to participate, and not be using the vulgarities that are prevelant in the current songs. Everyone should be able to root for their team the way they want to. I've been to many EPL matches, and I feel this is how I wish to represent my club.
I would check out Raging Bull Nation if i were you, they seem to have similar taste and style of support you are talking about, and in any event at least you can make a contact or two who may be able to assist you.
Thanks! That's not a bad idea. I do remember seing them at a few games, and I guess I forgot about them... However, anyone interested, please reach out to me. I really want to create an amazing atmosphere in the arena next season, one that will be the envy of the MLS.
I can attest to that. I have a much harder time trying to get people to come to GS since RB took over. I was hoping for a rebranding going into RBA next year but it seems like RB is determined to go full steam ahead. My whole soccer world has been turned upside down with this experiment. I swore off Serie A and the EPL about a decade ago and threw my support 100% behind the Metros. Now I have to reconsider everything. I don't think I can support this abortion of a team called RB anymore. They also have a strict rule against using profanity, much like the English fans.
