and lets give montreal a team just because we 'need' montreal in this league and because of all the greeks that celebrated in montreal after we won the euro in 04. makes sense right?
Its called Caltrain Many would say San Jose/the Silicon Valley is. More people than SF. All the tech companies are here. As does San Jose. San Jose State, if im not mistaken, is the most diverse university in the nation. I understand that it may not be easy for you, and some others, to come to games in SF. But there are plenty of ways to get here via public transportation, and if everything works out, there will be EVEN MORE ways to get to a Quakes game. The Earthquakes also have marketing rights for ALL OF NORTHERN CALIFORNIA. I think that pretty much solidifies the that the Quakes will be the only team around here. I don't mean to sound negative towards you, or if I am reiterating other people's points, but the Earthquakes have been here since the 1970s (basically). They have been the root of professional bay area soccer. Nothing will change that
I just want to know wt's assume SF gets awarded a team, who exactly is their owner and where will their SSS be built?
Well thier owner would be me of course, just as soon as I raise a few billion dollars; and the SSS would be on third street directly across the channel from ATT Park. BTW: I am now officially accepting donations. Currently I am $1,999,999,999.00 short of the 2 billion I need.
The reason SF doesnt have a team is that the various SJ owners know that San Fran has the snobiest of euro soccer fans. Its either tops or nothing. I live in SF and have many soccer fans. They would go ape f&cking sh*t if an MLS SF team had Ribery, Tevez, and a couple of other top European level players. Just one of those guys wouldnt cut it- you might not even break 12k per game. Throw in a Mexican name, a European name, and you'll break 20k or even 25k easily at the Coliseum or some place easy to get to. Seattle loves that whole "we love something the rest of the country hates". SF is just as anti-middle of America and internationally oriented as Sea, its just that attitudes around here on any subject are ten times more arrogant and stuck up then Sea. Actually a successful Bay area franchise period, could work by appealing to SF euro snobs, Oakland's Mexican community, and retaining the name of SJ. How about a second San Jose team....in Fremont, Hayward, or thereabouts?
Everyone in bay area knows why SF is called "the city" by folks in east bay, peninsula, n. bay, etc.... cause its the cultural capitol of the area (and the counter-culture capitol of america)
me too bro, an hour and half train ride is too much (3hours round trip). Games at the coliseum are all I can do.
The reason SF doesn't have a team is because since 1974, soccer has always been in San Jose. You had the NASL/WSA/WSL Quakes the APSL SF BAY Blackhawks and the MLS Clash/Quakes....Its always been San Jose.....
what a waste of a thread . . . . i could count the number of people (that think SF needs an MLS team) on my left hand. i am sorry that someone doesn't like to commute, but such is the life of most MLS fans. do you think folks from the north part of LA enjoy taking the 405 down to carson for G's games?
I love that - and it sums up why I would love SF to have a team as well. Seattle - San Jose = no rivalry in my opinion. Seattle - SF = rivalry, at least in my mind. Unlike Seattle and SJ, Seattle and SF have a lot in common as far as scenery, mentality, attitude. Yes, SF is more international (and perhaps more "snobbish") than Seattle, but at least with those two a comparison can be made. San Jose? Don't know of too many people who have seriously compared Seattle to that city. It's all a pipe dream though. But a team in SF would spur on a natural rivalry with SJ.
I wish I lived as far away as San Francisco to drive an hour to see a Quakes game in person. I live in Savannah, GA and had to drive 4 hours round trip to watch them last year in Charleston for three games. It would be cool to have another team in SF, but until they iron out their issues with the 49ers, that city council can &*@!(#) my (*^^$# with their *^#)$)@ all the way in with the (#*#^$0 and a &$#$(^@! No what I'm sayin?
I repeat once again, does SF have an owner and a stadium plan? If not, THERE WILL NEVER BE AN MLS TEAM IN THAT CITY!
Maybe not but at least they have one and they've got their stadiumn plan approved and its in the works. SF is nowhere near where San Jose is and I don't see anyone even close to stepping up in wanting an MLS franchise! Who is it ? Name one MAN or ONE Company willing to step up and put up the money! Who is this owner?
You would think that San Francisco had the Earthquakes since it seems like alot of the supporters are staying over there instead of closer to San Jose.
you're right in terms of more soccer supporters in SF then SJ...even with Oakland over SJ. However, SF soccer supporters are very attuned to European soccer & Oakland fans are very attuned to Mexican soccer. If the Earthquakes were in SF or Oak, they'd probably do about the same in terms of attendance as in SJ. Things would change if they were to sign a big soccer name.
So how come SF supporters didn't show up to the Quakes game last night? There was no one there until the 2nd game..... So much for the SF Quakes........
Yeah I am. You would rather go to San Francisco then stay in San Jose and go to the Winchester House or Tech Museum!?
I didn't say San Jose has no activities for those coming to town, but it certainly has a lower profile.
