Re: Congratulations Mexico [R] This is such a passive aggressive thread. It's like everyone is going out of their way to say "Look how much classier we are in defeat", and then all posts end in "but watch out for us in Azteca with our real team" Mexico won a game they should have won. Mexican fans are desperately trying to pretend this was a win under legitimate circumstances, to boost their confidence. We US fans are trying to take solace in "the high road" because we need to make ourselves feel better.
Re: Congratulations Mexico [R] not really a big deal in terms of WCQ, plus the gold cup off year as i like to call it. but a 5-0 defeat to mexico is never good. we all would feel a little better if i ened 1-0 or 2-0, hell even 3-0. im more concerned about how the "general" soccer public will view this loss.
Re: Congratulations Mexico [R] The general soccer public was well aware of the Confederations Cup tournament and everyone knows that's where our priorities were. It doesn't take that much to realize guys like Dempsey, Bradley, Donovan, Altidore, Gooch, and Howard weren't there. But credit to Mexico.. they brought a better team and deserved the Gold Cup.
Re: Congratulations Mexico [R] Good attacking display from Gio and Vela today, as much as I hate to say it they outperformed us today. Special props goes to Aguirre for such a good job of scouting. He knew our player's tendencies and which ones to watch out for.
Re: Congratulations Mexico [R] There was no "half" team about this group of US Players. I have a feeling that we will see more guys from Mexico's Gold Cup Roster at Azteca next month than we will Americans. Just a hunch
Re: Congratulations Mexico [R] Not too concerned with Mexico beating a backline of marshall heaps goodson and pearce. Nor am I concerned with them beating a midfield with Pause and beckerman starting. Ditto for Arnaud up top. If anything we got a look at dos santos and vela and sahbah. Congrats mexico...for whatever its worth. Bradley should do a better job with subs though
Re: Congratulations Mexico [R] I think it's possible that team Mexico is also the most popular football team of any code, too. Packer and Cowboys fans don't travel that well.
Re: Congratulations Mexico [R] Wow. This is the stuff of a Southern Lit seminar in multi-layering. I am taking no solace. My eyes were moist, jut like Brian Ching's, my fellow Gonzag alum, after the game. I am not "taking the high road." I endeavor to be a descent human being. Therefore, I respect my oponent. Whether they should or shouldn't have won, they played brilliantly. And, given the second-half response, I would have to say the coaches coached well, also. Mexico, I hate this result. I hate it. I hate it. I hate it. I don't care if we took our team from an AYSO select team, this still hurts, and you delivered the pain brilliantly. You have shown we still have to prove ourselves if we want to be tops in the region. You, as our worthy opponent, make us work hard. Congratulations, pinche ***^^&&&@@!!!!!!.
Re: Congratulations Mexico [R] Gimme a break, this is the Gold Cup, there are no excuses. You're a sore loser. If the roles were reversed, team usa woulda been celebrating even more wildly
Re: Congratulations Mexico [R] 1. Gold Cup is a joke. 2. I would have laughed more instead of celebrating because a bunch of MLS rejects would have beat Mexico which would have been pretty funny to me.
Re: Congratulations Mexico [R] I agree. I can understand the bitter result for everyone, but my feeling is that if you're going to congratulate the Mexican victory do so without woulda, coulda, shouldas.
Re: Congratulations Mexico [R] yeah, congrats. whatever. Now, if the A team they use on 8-12 draws or worse yet, loses to the USMT, who will go into hiding? who will be missing? who will never play for El Tri ever again? and who on this winning squad will never miss another WC qualifier? mmmmm?
Re: Congratulations Mexico [R] Congrats to them, they played the better game. I'm bitter about the pk, but at the end of the day that didn't matter as our midfield/defense completely fell apart and they finished their oppurtunities.
Re: Congratulations Mexico [R] The Gold Cup is the official championship of the region. No excuses. Team usa was even gifted 7 extra roster spots. Roles being reversed= usa B team vs Mexico B- team. Understand English?
Re: Congratulations Mexico [R] damn, you could tell how cathartic that was for mexico. they played great. don't sweat it too much. you guys are all way too pollyannaish in victory (kyle beckerman is amazing!!!11) (kenny cooper!!1111), and it sucks to lose 5-0 but shit happens. both sets of fans are always guilty of believing their own hype. mexico's bench is a lot more talented than the US anyway, and has always been, and this result just confirmed that. things were never as bad for mexico as everyone was saying anyway, although it was funny to watch them stress about it. mexico can be happy that vela and dos santos are running on all cylinders and celebrate this victory after months of not having much to celebrate. likewise, despite this result, the US just got second place in the confederations cup and found a really, really solid lineup that functions well as a team. i bet if the el salvador/costa rica road qualifiers were after the confed cup, results would be different in those games. things are looking good for both teams, and hopefully the upcoming wcq will be a great match. congrats mex!
Re: Congratulations Mexico [R] Given the respective teams (neither were full teams, but the US was much farther from being an "a" team - that's not an excuse but a fact), I honestly expected Mexico to win this game. But I was thinking more like 2-0, maybe 2-1 - certainly not 5-0 which is an incredible result for Mexico and they certainly deserve some serious credit for that. Vela and Dos Santos are absolute stars, and I hope Mexico qualify for next year (pulling it of at the last minute after losing on Aug. 12 of course, hey I am a US fan first!) because I'd like to see them at the World Cup...
Re: Congratulations Mexico [R] I cannot congratulate a rival. I hate them. In my fantasy world they all die in a plane crash on their way home. They can go to hell. Yeah, I don't pretend to have class but so what. At least I am not faking it, and I acknowledge my own thoughts and my own nature.
Re: Congratulations Mexico [R] Congrats on the victory. What's weird is how the Gold Cup is finished and July, the slow month for soccer, is nearly complete. Now the WCQ at Azteca, which seemed to be so far in the future just this week, is only 17 days away now. It looks like Mexico's defense will be completely different for that game with Marquez, Salcido, Osorio and Galindo, but Mexico's midfield and strikers will be mostly the same players we saw today with maybe Pardo and Blanco added.
Re: Congratulations Mexico [R] I agree with you, and I also think this may be a turning point for El Tri, both in confidence and perhaps the willingness of the FMF to stick by a coach and give him more breathing room. Granted, it's only one game, and we all know that you're only as good as your last performance, but I just have the sense that this was an important moment in reestablishing some Mexican "mojo." As a U.S. fan I want us to do well at Azteca, but I know how difficult this will be.
Re: Congratulations Mexico [R] What's sore is selectively quoting one or two posts which are not indicative of the overall attitude of this thread out of like sixty that are, to try to make a point.
Re: Congratulations Mexico [R] Um. no it's not. It's called reading a thread, then responding to a post. That's what we do here. You're not taking this 5-0 loss too well, are you? (Possibly the biggest destruction in GC Final history)
Re: Congratulations Mexico [R] LOL now that Mexico is inferior to the US the Gold Cup means something because they won it right? Funny how it was meaningless when you couldn't win it the past few years. The Gold Cup that matters is in 2 years BTW. Do you understand English?
