The WPS All-Star Game is being played eight days following the WPS Championship, featuring a team of 18 WPS All-Stars, who will be selected through mix of voting (Starting 11) and at-large selections by the head coach and the WPS Commissioner:

    Starting 11 - Vote counting 25% fans, 25% media, 25% players, 25% coaches
7 players - At-Large Selections (WPS Commissioner and All-Star Head Coach)

Players elected to the Starting 11 who are unavailable to compete in the All-Star Game will be replaced by the next highest vote-getter by position. In a unique twist for the first year of the WPS All-Star Game, the All-Star Team head coach will be voted on collectively by the players with the announcement coming in late July.

    Goal.com's WPS All-Star Picks

Goal.com's Kathryn L. Knapp and Christa Mann pick 15 players each who they feel should make the WPS All-Star squad

    DEFENDERS

    Kathryn:

Alex Scott, Boston Breakers: Scott gives the All-Stars an offensive option as well as a strong defender. She’s been solid in the backline for Boston while helping the club sneak up the standings. She also tallied a goal and an assist.

    Christa:

Amy LePeilbet, Boston Breakers: LePeilbet is the stronghold for the Breakers' defense. She keeps her line in check and is always saving the day. She isn't flashing and doesn't do anything amazing, but she always plays well and never makes detrimental mistakes.

Alex Scott, Boston Breakers: Alex Scott has been a great surprise in the WPS. She tracks players well and prevents service from the outside. Scott has the speed to get involved in the attack and to get in behind the opposing defense.

    MIDFIELDERS

    Kathryn:

Kelly Smith, Boston Breakers: I know, I know, Smith is a forward. But stepping back a little bit would give her more space to be creative. She ranks seventh in the league in scoring. A start for the All-Star team would be a huge boost to her game.

    ALTERNATES

    Kathryn:

Allison Lipsher, Boston Breakers: Lipsher has come up huge for her club lately. She’s played in eight matches, earned four shutouts and allowed just four goals. Her strong performance on Sunday helped Boston move into second place. Just for that, she should make the trip to Saint Louis.

    Christa:

Heather Mitts, Sky Blue FC: Mitts is a popular player who has had an up and down season. The U.S. Women's National team player doesn't make the cut because she dives-in too early allowing some dangerous crosses into her own 18' and because she has yet to really get forward in the attack.

Alli Lipsher as an all-star alternate? Over Hope Solo? Over Jenni Branam? Over Nicole Barnhart?

Is this some sort of joke?

Did I miss a trade? And no, Lipsher doesn't deserve a spot but she deserves it far more than Branam. Eeeew.

who did you guys vote for?

    my picks

    goal
    solo

    defenders
    alex scott
    christie rampone
    ifeoma denke

    Midfield
    Chalupa
    formiga
    bompastor
    smith
    rapinoe

    Forwards
    Wambach
    Marta

I must say my forward choices are for purely selfish reasons. Both wambach and marta must be marked, or they will score. Therefore usually the are double if not triple teamed. With both on the field that will be limited. There just are not enough players to go around. Therefore I think it will free up marta to do more and for us to see more. Also I really want to see how abby performs with a competant partner up top. I just think the speed and skill of marta and the size and nose for the goal of wambach might make some interesting play.

I also must say I had a hard time picking. There are lots of good players who are not going to make the allstar team. Umea has one advantage in that they are used to playing together, but I have a feeling that this is going to be a match that shakes up many euro football clubs. I have a feeling the all stars just might cream the swedes. I personally hope they do because that will likely force more of the germans and swedes to come to WPS next year. Otherwise they are going to be at a huge disadvantage.

I was thinking the same thing. I don't take the picks of someone who cannot even get the correct team rights. were they thinking of someone else on sky blue or did they forget mitts played for the breakers???
