I watched Islanders v. Rhinos Friday night, and after Rochester's coach and player-coach were both ejected from the bench, they left Scott Vallow in charge for the rest of the match.

Also equivalent to the Ref lost control of the match in the first half and decided to make an example which infuriated fans coaches players and just about anyone else. Earlier Johnny Steele had head butted someone and only received a yellow. So a 2 footed tackle from the front received a red. Coach Tilley came out to protest and got ejected for it.

In Norway, on Sunday, former Toronto FC goalkeeper Kenny Stamatopoulos started for Lynn Oslo in their 1-0 home loss to Bodo/Glimt. Former Real Salt Lake defender Willis Forko played the full 90 for BG. Ex-Fire and Wizards midfielder Khari Stephenson was a second-half substitute as Aalesund tied 1-1 at Lillestrom. Multi-team MLS veteran Hunter Freeman scored on a header for IK Start as the Oslo-based team won 2-1 at Odd Grenland. Former Chivas USA and Real Salt Lake defender Douglas Sequeira played the full 90 as Tromso beat Valerenga 2-0 on Monday night.
    ...
In Scotland, former Rapids, Revs and Crew assistant coach John Murphy put his new charges at Scottish First Division side Livingston FC through their paces in preseason training. The 42-year-old Murphy was appointed head coach of crisis club Livingston on June 30. Murphy, the first American to be head coach of a Scottish league team, may not get the chance to lead the team into the new season due to the financial problems that has left Livingston on the verge of bankruptcy.
    ...
Former Colorado Rapids player Dedi Ben Dayan has signed with Hapoel Tel Aviv. The Israel international played for Maccabi Netanya during the just-concluded campaign.

Richardson just scored for the Railhawks against the Whitecaps, he looked dangerous several times in the half, goal at +/- 44th minute. He is so new to their team that his name isn't on his jersey yet. Realistically he only looks about twice as good as Noonan (at present form) so I can see why we let him go ... not. In fairness he is playing against a USL-1 defense but I think the Whitecaps last year could have been mid-table in MLS>

Tom McManus scored a goal for Derry City FC in their 1-1 tie against Skonto Riga, in Derry's Europa Cup match against the Latvian team. The second match against Skonto is Thursday in Derry.

    Story:
    http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/sport/2009/0717/1224250849245.html

Tom/Tam has not played a lot in Derry's League of Ireland Premier League matches this season, getting a few minutes here and there, much like his career at the Rapids. He was out for a while with a calf (mooo) injury. But for the Europa Cup match he started and played 80 minutes, getting the crucial tieing away goal. We can hope he starts Thursday.

Derry City FC had been challenging for the top of the Premier Division, but after losing three league matches, are now 10 points off the lead to Bohemians, of Dublin.

John Murphy had his first game as Manager of Livingston FC in the Scottish First Division. It was a ALBA Champions Cup (Lower League Cup) match against Queen of the South. On the road Livingston lost 1-0 to the much better Queen of the South side. :D

Livingston FC is still facing penalties from the Scottish FA for going into administration which may take the form of anything from points penalized to relegation to the Third Division.

Do you really want me to put together a list of those players who could score in USL and were complete failures in MLS?

First on the list would be Melvin Tarley...

Jeez, someone has a real man-crush on Richardson.

I don't really see the connection of where dropping Richardson from the team makes Gary Smith a bad coach. Colorado is the second most productive offense in the league...scoring goals is very far from the team's problems.

Arguing about whether Richardson would fit in the Rapids' system is one thing, its another to think he'd get any real playing time when guys like Casey and Omar are ahead of him. Both of them would feast on USL teams.

    ======================
Richardson named USL-1 Player of the Week

“Well right now I’m very, very happy, the coach likes me, everybody likes me actually and I’m getting to play, that’s all I wanted to do since I come here…its no different than when I was playing in the MLS, it’s the same football, and honestly, I think they have better players here (USL-1),” Richardson said.
He state also: “I am one of the leading scorers in the league right now and imagine I only played two games, all I wanted to do was to show people that I can play here (USA) and that I am hungry t
o play…the people here already asking about Guyana, I see they put up a very big GT flag at the stadium now, so I’m good.”
He says more importantly, he is enjoying a good relationship with the coach whom he says is really looking out for him and giving him a chance to play.
“Up to just now (yesterday) I was talking to coach man and all he want me to do is continue playing the way I am, I’m not really there as yet, but I’m working hard you know,” Richardson said, adding that he is not in a hurry to go back to the MLS right now. “I just want to get some more playing, score some more goals and then we can see what will happen.”
    Big offers
He also noted that already several of the top clubs in the MLS are breathing down his neck, giving him big offers but he is not yet ready and wants more time to play and score more goals for his club and also to help them to a championship.

FIRE "GARY SMITH" he is useless he will take the rapids down. RAPIDS don't know better!! all the care about is having a foreign coach useless front office!!!!!!

Lost in all the Richardson kerfuffle was the fact that four former/"current" Rapids were on the USL pro teams of the week.

    http://www.uslsoccer.com/home/351270.html

Stephen Keel, D, Portland Timbers - "Led team in 0-0 draw against Puerto Rico"
Ciaran O'Brien, M, Montreal Impact - "Two assists in 4-1 win over Cleveland"
Gregory Richardson, F, Carolina Railhawks - "Three goals in 4-0 win over Miami"
Steward Ceus, G, Charlotte Eagles - "Two shutouts at Maryland, Baltimore"

Ceus and Richardson (as I'm sure I've heard somewhere...) were named their respective divisions' players of the week.

    Re: Rapids v. RBNY 7.25.09 - pre/during/after

no the won't, actually only one would destroy the USL division teams and that would be casey no doubt.omar is not that good of a player without casey. i said before he always follow up on plays that is why he gets the left overs to score.why i say smith does know how to coach is because he doesn't know the tallent of richardson and if he had played 3-4-4 .casey and richardson would have created so much misery for any deffence and the rapids would have been number 1 by a huge margin at this point in the season. i'll tell you something if you take away casey the rapids would be nothing without him guarantee but even if you take any other player away and still have casey it would not be that bad. the life support of the rapids is casey and thats the truth. if you had put another player like richardson along with casey you would have seen the dynamic the duo would have caused. omar is ok i am not saying he is not good but what did he do for his home team in the previous tounament tell me???? and what has he done this season for the rapids with all the playing time tell me did richardson even get a good chance for people to judge him no but the coach is useless and don't know to use tallent..

Hey Gregory - you obviously haven't been watching the Rapids - cuz Omar Cummings may be the most valuable person on the team right now.

Most of Casey's goals have come from Omar who has 7 assists - tied for first in the league with Blanco and Davis! Furthermore - when Casey has been out - it's Omar that has stepped up and gained us some wins. When Omar was with Jamaica in the Gold Cup - we weren't winning.

    Get your facts straight.

I'm not convinced that GS is the Soccer Gods' gift to coaching but at least he can count -- so far as I know. At least he hasn't trotted out a "3-4-4" which would have to be a possession-monster formation, what with no goalkeeper and all ... ;>)

And just in case I'll type this part real slow ... yes I know goalkeepers aren't shown in formations because there is always just one of them, never less never more, but a "3-4-4" creates a problem for that.
