All Small Rocks 2009_10 managers have registered at FPL and joined the Small Rocks 2009_10 league.

We are ready to determine our draft order.

I've sent my 4-digit number between (0000-9999) to Clan, Ingromius, and furby. I've already received the 4-digit lottery pick number from vegas2u.

I need the rest of the SR managers to send me a PM with their 4-digit number so we can pick a night to use the PA Pick 4 lottery to determine our draft order.

    Re: Wonders

I hope you use it. No way for Sand. What a cruel and punishing device it was in the FA cup draft last year. You could be last pick for the first 3 rounds and move up to second to last in round 4. I think that the randomizer needs atleast 3 witnesses present.

Doesn't work that way if you choose a serpentine draft. Pretty simple way to go and not a bad idea as long as everybody is ok with the draft admin running it through and passing on the results.

Still there is something engaging about using the lotto.

    Re: Wonders

We tried the randomizer for some of the Champions' League and other drafted leagues and it randomly benefited some managers over others. We discussed this last year and chose to stick with the standard serpentine draft with the draft order for the odd numbered rounds determined by the PA lottery number process and the draft order just reversed for the even rounds.

It also kept it simple in knowing the two managers you had to alert it was their turn to pick. And it kept it simple in that you got into a rhythm as to how long between your picks for the odd/even round set.

Michel, enjoy your holiday, but don't forget to PM me your 4-digit number. Just have 3 to receive and then we can determine the Small Rocks 2009_10 Draft Order.

    Randomizer

Use the randomizer and select Serpentine Draft.

If Admin enters everyone's e-mail address everyone gets the list at the same time; so there's no way to manipulate.

Willing to learn. I tried Michel's randomizer draft thread suggestion. Each of you should get an email with the results of determining the draft order for Small Rocks 2009_10. Cancel the call for PA lottery numbers.

It's obviously flawed because Michel gets the first pick!!!

Knowing Michel and his preference for selecting the unknown player, he can probably be talked into trading draft positions.

    Small Rocks 2009_10 Draft Order:

Round 1 and all odd numbered rounds

Rnd Pick Team / Owner Player Selected
    1 1 1800-UK.com / 1800-WorldCup.com / Michel /
    1 2 FC Springfield / ibreak4coffee / Andre /
    1 3 blechs_dawgs / blech / Paul B. /
    1 4 Vegas Virgins / vegas2u / Craig /
    1 5 Rat Face Villains FC / furby / Eric /
    1 6 LSG Cambridge / ingromius / Jonathan /
    1 7 Aviators / Hal / Hal /
    1 8 In Off The Post / Clan / Paul H. /

Round 2 and all even numbered rounds

Rnd Pick Team / Owner Player Selected
    2 1 In Off The Post / Clan /
    2 2 Aviators / Hal /
    2 3 LSG Cambridge / ingromius /
2 4 Rat Face Villains FC / furby
    2 5 Vegas Virgins / vegas2u /
    2 6 blechs_dawgs / blech /
    2 7 FC Springfield / ibreak4coffee /
    2 8 1800-UK.com / 1800-WorldCup.com /

And Paul H., aka Clan, you can forget about getting Lampard this year. If he is still available when I pick at #7, he'll be my Captain for Life!!

FYI, on the googledocs, I re-ordered the teams on the "roster" sheet to put them in draft order, and I input the teams on the "picks" sheet. I also added an additional column if anyone wants to add a comment about their pick. And I adjusted the picks so that Clan could, at least for another week, still get Lampard. :D

    Draft Order

The good thing about going first is I also get to go last.

In other words, I get double picks; which is great, as I'll be on the road from Saturday mornng until the season kicks off.

When would you like me to get the ball rolling?

I was going to print off the player list off in the morning, but I could make my first pick this evening, if you prefer.

I'm airborne and away from a computer from 6 AM - 2 PM EDT on 8/1.

With my attempts at using Google Docs, I only wanted to mess with the database once, so all leagues would freeze at the same time. I think VSR prefers to delay their draft to allow more players to get into the database.

I had planned on finalizing the database on Thursday 9/30 at midnight and do the sorting and uploading it to Google Docs.

Then, I thought we'd get started with the Small Rocks draft during the day on Friday, 9/31, say 2-3 PM GMT, 9-10 AM EDT, and 6-7 AM PST. We might be able to get in 4 rounds the first day and then pick it up again, at least if we are waiting on my pick, about 2 PM EDT on the first. I'm very flexible after that.

How about others posting their draft constraints and preferences? Is starting on the 31st good for everyone, or do you want to wait until a later time?

I'm just thinking of giving a whole week for the Go Slow Phase and then finishing up the Go Fast phase on Aug 9 which will still allow managers to make the post-draft pre-season squad adjustments. (Of course I recognize it's been several years since we have even had to do a Go Fast phase as we almost always complete the draft during the Go Slow Phase.)

As to the concern of waiting for players to get added to the database, I think our experience is that many won't get added until after the season starts. Non EU players have to get the FA work permit approval before they get added to the database.

    Go Slow and Go Fast

As mentioned earlier, it's a good job I get two picks at a time.

When I get Internet connection, I should be able to check in once in the morning (before going to breakfast) and once or twice in the evening (before and after a visit to the bar/restaurant).

Alas, as I will be on the road (or on the beach), I won't be sitting in front of the screen all day; which means it wil stall when it gets to me, if we need the 'go fast' stage.

I doubt we will, as if I can make two picks a day we should have it done in a week - assuming I have a room with Internet connection.

No date or time restrictions here. 7/31 is fine with me.

5th last year in the draft and got Gerrard. 4th this year but I doubt he makes it that far.

Back from Kintyre and I'll be around more or less consistently for a while. Draft time frame looks good for me too. Sixth pick, bleah, guess I have to start figuring who'll be gone that I want as usual. Someday, someday, I'll get a top 3 pick...

Wow - totally missed that the draft order had been set. Second spot two years in a row! The fantasy gods are smiling on me since I got 6th and 7th the two years before that!

I am completely flexible when we start, and 7/31 would be fine but no sooner. I am totally in agreement with djangone's post in the VSR thread about starting as late as possible to allow maximum players in the database and to lessen the effects of new arrivals on established expensive players we might go after in the first few rounds.

And since Michel is picking first, I feel pretty lucky since he'll probably take Stewart Downing or an unknown quantity that will end up scoring 200 points :D

Guys just an FYI - google docs is firewalled at work so any picks I make there will need to be inputed by someone else.

When are we starting Hal, I'll still be pretty absent for most of next week, but will be on regularly from the end of next week forward.

By the way, just so as you all know, Lampard has stated that he will retire if he can't play for Inoffthepost this season.

Such loyalty is admirable, don't you think..:)

I was under the impression we were targeting July 31 for the go slow phase to start. Is that still the case? I'm fine with delaying that start a bit if necessary to accommodate schedules... and hopefully deepen the database:D

You'd really be going crazy if you'd drafted Dunne or Toure. :D

We are starting the Small Rocks 2009_10 Draft at 9 AM EDT, 6 AM PST, and I think it's 2 PM GMT on Friday, 7/31.

I had my flight absence wrong. I'll be unavailable and airborne from 4 PM EDT on Friday until 2 AM EDT on Sunday. I'm hopeful that with these veteran managers we can get in 4-6 or more rounds on Friday and Saturday before I'm off for 10 hours.

I'll update the player database late Thursday evening and double check it after our draft starts. I'll email the worksheet to everyone and upload it to the Google Docs page.

Hopefully, everyone who is going to try and use Google Docs has figured out the access part by now. Regardless, we'll have two threads, one for picks only and one for banter here in BigSoccer.

BTW, I saw a post by another rock's drafter about having difficulty accessing BigSoccer. I too have hit the busy wall (it's a lie, it's a lie) several times.

Just trying to mess with your budget..... :D
You should be able to get a decent fast guy for 8.32 at the very most....

Are we using the same "beta" spreadsheet we did for the practice? Seems the entire "Rocks" can edit. Doubt anyone could/would do anything, but maybe we should limit.
