Update: Viktoria Aschaffenburg are voluntarily relegated from RL Süd, therefore the relegation battle is over now.

Relegated from RL Süd: Viktoria Aschaffenburg, TSV Großbardorf (both without a license), Unterhaching II

Promoted to RL Süd: SpVgg Weiden, Bayern Alzenau, and Großaspach or Hoffenheim II

Bergedorf 85 have announced that they likely will take back their license application as well, which would leave St. Pauli II as the only club from Hamburg with a license. In this case the promotion play-off would definitely be Kiel II - St. Pauli II if Kiel's first team is promoted, otherwise St. Pauli II are promoted automatically.

FSV Oggersheim are relegated voluntarily from the RL West. 5 out of 10 relegations are based on licensing issues so far.

Oldenburg won the first leg of the promotion play-off in Goslar with 1:0.

Ok, I'm the only one posting here :D - but after the 33rd matchday everything's decided in West and South, so I thougt I might as well update this week already. Note: teams will likely moved arround the groups a bit before the season (with the relegated teams from 3. Liga South would have to play with 20 teams otherwise), and licensing isn't final until June (the 5 teams mentioned here are already definite though).

    1) RL Nord

    Reserve teams 2008/2009: 6

Promoted to 3. Liga: Kiel or Halle, equal on points going into the last matchday

Relegated so far: Sachsen Leipzig, Altona 93 (both without license for 2010), Cottbus II - last team relegated will be one of Türkiyemspor, Plauen, HSV II (all 3 equal on points) or Rostock II and Oberneuland

    Promoted into RL Nord:
    - From Hamburg (0-1, play-off with SH): St. Pauli II - if Holstein Kiel is promoted to the 3. Liga play-off vs. Kiel II
    - From Schleswig-Holstein (0-1, see Hamburg): Kiel II
    - From Bremen (0): Noone applied for a license
    - From Niedersachsen (1): Play-off between Oldenburg and Goslar
    - From Nordost (2): TeBe Berlin and Auerbach or Meuselwitz

Reserve teams in 2009/10: 5 or 6 (depending on if HSV II stays in)

    2) RL West:

    Reserve teams 2008/2009: 8

Promoted to 3. Liga: Dortmund II

Relegated: Oggersheim (without license for 2010), Cloppenburg, Kleve

    Promoted into RL West:
    - From Südwest: Saarbrücken
    - From NRW: Düsseldorf II and Bonner SC

    Reserve teams in 2009/10: 8

    3) RL Süd:

    Reserve teams 2008/2009: 8

Promoted to 3. Liga: 1. FC Heidenheim

Relegated: Großbardorf, Aschaffenburg (both without license for 2010), Unterhaching II

    Promoted into RL Süd:
    - From Baden-Württemberg: Großaspach
    - From Hessen: Bayern Alzenau
    - From Bayern: SpVgg Weiden

    Reserve teams in 2009/10: 7

But at least I read it! :D
I dont have too much to say about the RL, but I still think this is an interesting thread!

Do you know anything about whats up in Aschebäsch?
I thought they were one of the "bigger" teams in the RL south trying to run for promotion...

It sucks that a Bavarian team is the only one that even wants to be promoted from OL Hessen. Probably the most provinical league in the south... ^^

The club has been in financial difficulties for quite some time. They already had problems to get a license for this season - they have always stated that the can't generate enough income to play RL without a big sponsor. They couldn't find one and decided to go down voluntarily. The league is in dire need of reform - for many of the promoted teams attendances were actually lower than in the old Oberliga (although not the case for Aschaffenburg I think) - few derbies, many reserve sides, TV money isn't great and travel costs are relatively high for that level.

Well, still better than everyone in the North :D. And it's not that any league had many teams willing to go up.

Yeah. Not much of a point in even playing a league when none of the teams can afford to win it... :( Its a wierd system...

Whats gonna happen in 2 years, when the 2, 3 teams that could afford playing in a higher league have gone up?! wil they just abolish relegation/promotion all together?!

If the associations insist on keeping this system that would probably be better in the long run. Although I don't thing it will actually happen in the near future - there will be some kind of reform if things don't improve very fast. Maybe 5 or 6 Regionalligas instead of 3.

So, here's then the (almost) final update. Regionalliga Nord is finished, and Kiel are promoted - while they won their final game, Halle lost at home to Plauen - only their second loss this season, but a big one.

Türkiyemspor are relegated, despite winning their last game, but things were pretty close: Türkiyemspor, with 42 points on the first releagtion spot (15) are only 3 points behind 7th placed Chemnitz in the end.

Promoted to RL Nord are ZFC Meuselwitz and Goslarer SC (Goslar won the second leg of the promotion play-off in Oldenburg with 2:1). Goslar will play home games in Braunschweig next season. Last missing team will now be decided between Kiel II and St. Pauli II, after Kiel I's promotion is now certain. Both Goslar and Meuselwitz are newcomers to the supraregional level.

Some teams will have to switch between the groups next season - Kassel is likely to move from the South into the North group, at least one other team will have to switch as well, though.

Respect to them for winning the team as a promoted team.
But playing in Braunschweig? I don´t know their fanbase and
their will to travel, but I fear, that they play in an empty stadium.

Well, they usually average between 400 and 500 spectators - of course they haven't played above state level for a very long time, but I don't think they would get huge attendances for RL games either way.

There is no suitable stadium in Goslar, so they didn't have much of a choice. First choice was Celle, but the stadium there wasn't approved by the DFB either (the distance between Celle and Goslar is also twice as big, roughly, than the distance between Goslar and Braunschweig).

And yeah, don't expect sell-outs - but Magdeburg and Halle should get some decent numbers at least.

Was at Verl at the weekend and they were charging 15 Euros for a seat in a stand with the rain coming in. There was only 450 at the match .
I think the cost is putting lots of people off the 4th Div.

Verl never had a particularily huge fanbase, though - the prices aren't too bad for that level (not really cheap, but pretty much the same you pay for the neighbouring teams like Essen and Münster according to the websites). There isn't really much else on the income side for RL clubs (TV money won't finance you a team on that level).

Ok, now things are getting complicated: Kickers Emden are voluntarily relegated from the 3rd to the 5th division (see the 3. Liga thread). Now Burghausen stays in the 3. Liga and there's one free spot in the Regionalliga.

Also: Wilhelmshaven are rumored to get no license either.

So far it's not sure who will take the free place(s). Right now a play-off between Türkiyemspor, Cloppenburg and Unterhaching II seems likely, if Wilhelmshaven goes down Türkiyemspor will replace them anywhere, though. So in this case Cottbus II would play off with Unterhaching II and Cloppenburg.

So now there's the chance that there will be exactly TWO teams relegated strictly for sporting reasons this year.

Details on the Emden/Wilhelmshaven situation (in German): http://www.sport-nord.de/news/index.php?news_id=11451

    What a joke...

So the teams in the RL cant afford to play in it, and basically none of the teams in the Oberligas can afford it either. May aswell fill it up with U23 Teams of the "pro teams" right away. That would be honest at least... ^^

I wonder why a provincial team like Emden, that averaged an attendance of some 3000 last season, needs a 10000-top-notch-Stadium anyways....
I guess only DFB knows that.

So now it's official: Emden goes down into the Oberliga, Türkiyemspor stays in the Regionalliga (no play-off). Wilhelmshaven got their license as it seems.

Because of Emden's relegation only one team had to switch groups, Mannheim will go into the RL West next season. Kassel will stay in the south group (despite the club themselves asking to be put into the north).

Here's what the RL will look next season, changes in bold. Number of reserves remains pretty much unchanged, only Dortmund II's promotion (or Bremen II staying up) kept it from staying the same.

St. Pauli II won against Kiel II on penalties.

    Regionalliga Nord (6 reserve sides)
Hallescher FC, SV Babelsberg 03, 1. FC Magdeburg, Chemnitzer FC, VfB Lübeck, FC Oberneuland, SV Wilhelmshaven, VFC Plauen, Türkiyemspor Berlin, VfL Wolfsburg II, Hannover 96 II, Hansa Rostock II, Hertha BSC II, Hamburger SV II, FC St. Pauli II, Goslarer SC, ZFC Meuselwitz, Tennis Borussia Berlin

    Regionalliga West (8 reserve sides)
Preußen Münster, Rot-Weiss Essen, SC Verl, Sportfreunde Lotte, SV Elversberg, Eintracht Trier, Wormatia Worms, Waldhof Mannheim (from Süd), 1. FC Kaiserslautern II, 1. FC Köln II, 1. FSV Mainz 05 II, Borussia Mönchengladbach II, Bayer Leverkusen II, VfL Bochum II, FC Schalke 04 II, Fortuna Düsseldorf II, Bonner SC, 1. FC Saarbrücken

    Regionalliga Süd (7 reserve sides)
VfR Aalen, Stuttgarter Kickers, Hessen Kassel, SSV Ulm 1846, SC Pfullendorf, 1. FC Eintracht Bamberg, SSV Reutlingen, SV Darmstadt 98, Eintracht Frankfurt II, 1. FC Nürnberg II, 1860 München II, SV Wehen Wiesbaden II, SpVgg Greuther Fürth II, SC Freiburg II, Karlsruher SC II, SpVgg Weiden, SG Sonnenhof Großaspach, Bayern Alzenau

What I am curious to know is whether or not there is ANY TV coverage of these leagues. I know I would love to watch Saarbrucken in action (gotta love that a team in the Regionalliga West was once its own National Team)

There should be highlights of Saarbrücken's games on Saarland television at least. Currently they are on break and they only have the latest shows on their website, but after the new season starts you might find it on here:
    http://sr-mediathek.sr-online.de/

And Saarbrücken's players never made up the entire squad of the Saarland national team, btw. Full line-ups of every game: http://www.rsssf.com/tabless/saar-intres.html

    Could be worse...

Your family could be from Straubing and Regensburg. Try following clubs from those cities, here in the States.

    IMPOSSIBLE.

Jahn Regensburg is a relatively big, fully professional club - the only problem could be the language, but then you'd have multiple websites, official and fan sites, to choose from, as well as general football sites and newspaper websites. And finally there should be videos with highlights from their games on the internet (sometimes not for long, though). Random videos from this season from Bavarian TV:
    http://www.br-online.de/bayerisches...sv-jahn-regensburg-3-liga-ID1242032805292.xml
    http://www.br-online.de/bayerisches...-regensburg-sv-sandhausen-ID1237730983732.xml
    http://www.br-online.de/bayerisches...gensburg-vfr-aalen-3-liga-ID1234187997195.xml
    http://www.br-online.de/bayerisches...urg-fc-bayern-muenchen-ii-ID1240239329652.xml

Straubing would be harder... they play in the 7th division, so you likely only get the club website and the website of the local paper.
