The starting 11 against Peru is not that bad. We can probably get the win with this lineup. Hopefully Montero performs well under that great amount of pressure that Ecuador is under. I also noticed that Ayovi will start as a defender. This worked out pretty good against Brazil so it should work against Peru.

I think Ayovi as a defender is just a horrible decision. It didn't even work at home when we played against Brazil and Paraguay.

Ayovi and Espinoza's side of the defense is the weakest...especially when Ayovi plays in that position. Ayovi is a great attacker and should remain a left wing, his original position. His defending isn't as good. Isaac Mina's defense out beats Ayovi. Mina should definitely start, we can't be OVERCONFIDENT with Peru and think we're playing at home (meaning we're JUST gonna attack) b/c it's going to leave wide open spaces in our mid and also our defense (our weakest point, esp. if Guagua plays). If Ayovi plays Peru will be able to create dangerous counter attacks. If Mina plays I'm pretty sure we'll be a bit more safe.

I also saw a line up where Guagua was lined up with Fleitas....Guagua is just horrible and Fleitas is a mystery to us. ANOTHER reason why Mina should be playing LB...to enforce our defense.

Jefferson Montero is an awesome player and future star...but at this point in time we can't take risks and have him start on Sunday. BAD move by Vizuete.

Campos should be starting (instead of Guagua)
Mina should be in Ayovi's spot

    Reasco, Campos, Fleitas, Mina

Guerron/Noboa, Mendez, Castillo, Ayovi = midfield

Everything else is fine. Montero and Guerron/Noboa should serve us well in the second half.

Mina was crappy against El Salvador - did you see the last goal? He have him like 5 yards of space to shoot.

Plus I think it has a lot to do with Ayovi playing that position in Monterrey. Given that we are going to try to attack Peru and go for the win, he will be a key part of building the attack on the left side.

Good news everyone....Rojas did not recieve a major injury. He's still going to be able to play against Peru and Argentina after medical exams were made on him today.

    Thank God!

hahaha those two are the biggest failures in ecua-futbol. lmao they make me laugh all the time. I'm surprised Mamita Calderon is in LDU....I feel like I'm forced to support him when he plays just cuz he's wearing our jersey.

    agreed.
but desparate times call for desperate measures. i think vizuete is taking a risk if he plays montero and guagua, but we are kind of stuck here because of no better alternatives. (Campos and Mina are probably being saved for the game vs Argentina)
all i can say is that hopefully fleitas will cover guagua's gaps on the transitions and noboa direct the young montero playing midfield crosses

centenariazo!! this could benefit ecuador if we beat peru and argentina because uruguays next opponent is venezeula away so they struggle a bit with venezeula so itll probably be another loss for them

Truth is Ecuador has not won since Oct 12, 2008 Round 9
when we won Chile 1-0 with a 70th minute gol by Benitez

and has rarely scored with only a total of 3 gols in 2 ties one vs Brasil and another with Paraguay and a loss to Venezuela

Vizuete is fielding players who may be able to change things.
Let's pray for the best outcome. we really need this win.

    Elizaga
    Reasco Campos Fleitas Mna

    Castillo Mendez
    Montero Naboa

    Rojas Ayovi

yeah i agree...the past 2 fechas were golden opportunities to add six points instead of two...now we have the same chance again, and this time we can't squander it....we got our balls to the wall right now, lets see how we respond.

Well I spoke too soon. Paraguay screwed us up more by losing to Chile than they did by tying us last game. Thanks a lot Paraguay.

Ecuador and Peru is the only game left
An Ecuador win will tie Uruguay for 5th

after 13 games this is the standing:

    Brazil 24
    Paraguay 24
    Chile 23
    Argentina 22
    Uruguay 17
    Venezuela 16
    * Ecuador 14 still needs to play
    Colombia 14
    Bolivia 12
    * Peru 7 still needs to play

Now it seems like 4th place or a direct entrance to the world cup is out of the picture for us. Brazil, Paraguay, Chile, and Argentina are all pulling away. Right now, the teams with the best chances for 5th place are Uruguay, Venezuela, and Ecuador.

remember that we have 3 points on chile already...if we win out these 2 games, and beat chile, we will have an edge over them. also, you will notice that paraguay is starting to burn out....theres no guarantees that chile will be able to maintain this. as long as we continue to win, 4th place is attainable, and 5th will be guaranteed. the teams in the top 4 right now have some games against each other and will cannibalize themselves.

Ecuador needs to go on a winning streak. We have 6 games left..
that's 18 pts. possible 32 Total if we do win the remaining 6
including away vs Peru tomorrow and at home vs Argentina next wed
away games vs Colombia and Bolivia in Sept
home vs Uruguay and our last game away vs Chile in Oct

if we play perfect 6 wins 0 loss 32 pts
if we play great win 5 lose 1 = 29 pts
if we play better than avg 4 wins 1 tie 1 loss = 27 pt
    if we play avg. 3 wins 3 ties = 11 pts = 25 pts
    if we win 2 and tie 4 = 10 pts = 24 pts
if we win 2 lose 2 and tie 2 =8pts total 22 pts

Realistically in order to get 4th we need to win all remaining games.
but 5th place does look attainable I predict will end up with 27 pts

We've got about as good a chance at 5th place as anybody. Uruguay is not strong, Venezuela is not going to hold up, Colombia can't score, and Bolivia doesn't do anything outside of La Paz.

I agree 4th place is not totally out of reach, but we would have to go on a serious streak like viagoal said, starting tomorrow. We would also have to rely on results of other games to a degree.

My concern about 5th place is that the playoff will not be so easy. 4th place in CONCACAF looks like it will either be Honduras or Mexico. 5th place is not automatic qualification in my book.

we know our record against Mexico...and it's dodgy to say the least. against Honduras, I think we can perform better. The important thing is to play each game as if it was our last and hope for 4th place....we only settle for 5th once we can't mathematically make it to 4th. the streak must start tomorrow. I think in 02 we had a 5 game win streak if I'm not mistaken...we can do it again. the thing about our team is that we've been hit with so much criticism from within the team, and outside both for lack of finishing and the lackluster spirit shown that if we can score first, it will be like sharks smelling blood and we'll just keep driving the dagger deeper and hopefully we can twist the knife too....i have faith guys....

Don't count on it. You may have Peru away and Argentina at home...but we have Bolivia at home and Venezuela at home. Both teams we have defeated away at their own stadium already. 6pts right there and qualification 100% assured.

We can play the rest of the matches with reserves. That should help you guys in the last match here in Santiago.
