Current standings for the World Cup 2010 Qualifying in South America:

    Paraguay 24
    Brazil 21
    Chile 20
    Argentina 19
    Uruguay 17
    Colombia 14
    Ecuador 14
    Venezuela 13
    Bolivia 12
    Peru 7

Final standings for World Cup 2006 Qualifying:

    Brazil 34
    Argentina 34
    Ecuador 28
    Paraguay 28
    Uruguay 25
    Colombia 24
    Chile 22
    Venezuela 18
    Peru 18
    Bolivia 14

Final standings for World Cup 2002 Qualifying:

    Argentina 43
    Ecuador 31
    Brazil 30
    Paraguay 30
    Uruguay 27
    Colombia 27
    Bolivia 18
    Peru 16
    Venezuela 16
    Chile 12

If the last two World Cup Qualifying stages are any indication, we would probably need between 25-27 points to wrap up at least the fifth spot for the playoffs. We have six remaining games worth a total of 18 points. The next game against Peru in Lima, should be an indication of where we are headed during this round of qualifying. If we win we could go on a roll in Quito to face Argentina who we have beaten there in the past. Although Peru is in last place, they will probably try to play spoiler especially because its against Ecuador.

    Re: WCQ Ecuador vs. Peru

your totally right...I say the best thing we could probably do is win 4 games...and possibly tie 1, then we would be in it for sure.

We are currently at 14 points and whoever thinks a tie or loss against Peru is going to be ok, YOU NEED TO GET OFF WHAT YOUR SMOKING.

With a tie or loss we're gone and can say bye bye to WC 2010.

I think the best things we can do are:

win against Peru (+3 pts) AWAY
win against Arg. (+3 pts) HOME
win against Bol. (+3 pts) AWAY
win against Uru. (+ 3 pts) HOME

now in the last 2 WCQ:
we defeat Peru (for WC 02) and tied (for WC 06)
we loss at home vs Arg (for WC 02) and defeat them (for WC 06)
we defeat Bolivia both times (for WC 02 and WC 06)
we tied Uruguay both times (for WC 02 and WC 06)

So basically anything can happen against Peru and Arg.
And against Bolivia we always win, but they will also want to spoil our fun.
And we seem to ALWAYS have a problem defeating Uruguay at home which will be something extremely difficult to change.

Against Colombia, I'll be realistic....we're gonna loose, maybe even by a goleada.

And against Chile AWAY we have tied the last two times but THIS CHILE of today is a lot tougher and will most likely already be qualified by then and will want to SPOIL our fun too.

To sum up, if we loss or EVEN TIE any of the following games against Peru, Argentina, Bolivia, or Uruguay....we're OUT. And that's being realistic.

Um, what are you smoking? Colombia has scored SIX goals in the 12 games so far. Same number of goals as Peru. After them, Ecuador and Venezuela are tied for the next fewest number of goals scored: 14.

Realistically we may not beat them, but it sure as hell won't be a goleada. They have a good defensive play, but that's probably all they have going for them.

We must add to this factor that Chile is a contender this time around. Other team's results are going to play major factor as well.

I agree, the next game against Peru in Lima, the home game against Argentina, the away game against Bolivia, and the home game against Uruguay are important games, as they present challenges yet we have done well in those games in past qualifiers. As to the game against Colombia, it will be tough, as they also will be in the hunt for the last spot. If Chile is qualified by the time we have to play them, I am assuming they might not call all their main players which would benefit us.

I am guessing he was referring to our last World Cup Qualifying game in Colombia where we were having a good campaign, yet lost 3-0. Either way, it shouldn't happen again.

Ummm...they have good definisive play...we have terrible forwards who can't finish our plays. Not a good mix....

On the other hand, they have Forwards who can't score either...but OUR defense is WEAKER than theirs.....in other words, it will be A LOT easier for their forwards to score before ours even think of it.

On top of that...We couldn't beat them in freakin Quito!! A tie in Bogota will leave me in shock...

"Peru's players are threatening to boycott the World Cup qualifiers if the national football federation does not change.

The president of the players' union (SAFAP), Francesco Manassero, told a press conference today that no players will accept call-ups to the national team for friendlies or qualifiers if their demands are not met."

    http://www.espnstar.com/football/world-cup/news/detail/item275987/Peru-players-threaten-WC-boycott/

Although the proposed boycott will not affect the game against Ecuador, is it possible the Peruvian players might play less passionately as another statement to their federation?

I would believe it if they weren't playing us. I think they would rather spoil our chances and then pack it in for their second match if anything. We will see what happens though. They might just want to play for pride and put together a challenge for us especially with the way we have been finishing around the goal.

I think they would get a kick out of spoiling Ecuador's chances and letting Colombia slide.

They have it in for us, cus we are their daddy's in this sport.. Even at their home, we get positive outcomes. Didn't we qualify for out first World Cup in Lima?

    Lima. AFP

i sure hope that we play good next week to me this game means alot ...and i believe in ecuador even if we may not be using a star team..but hey anything can happen i mean the last two times we played in lima are defence wasn't that all great either heck we had la sombra espinoza and hes pretty horrible at clearing the ball.. but then again i think everything will be chill and we could at least leave with a 3-0 or a 3-1 scoreline in our favour...but i hope this could happen if our offence doesnt screw up either, but my line -up would go like this:

    elizaga
    reasco-campos-fleitas-mina
    montero-mendez-ayovi-noboa
    rojas-tenorio

or i would even switch guerron for tenorio im not sure what would be more offensive hahaha:rolleyes:

according to www.futbolecuador.com Vizuete's line up today was:

Elizaga; Reasco, Guagua, Fleitas, Mina; Guerron, Mendez, Castillo, Ayovi; Rojas, Tenorio

I thought Guerron and Mendez couldn't play but supposively it looks like I'm wrong.

If that can both play it's positive news. Atleast b/c of Mendez.
But Guagua back there in defense is the scariest thing I've seen this whole qualifiers.

i swear vizeute is retdarded he puts guerron instead of noboa wtf is wrong with him..guerron did nothing last two qualifiers except miss a goal two inches unfront of the net..and not make an easy pass to benitez that would have been a goal..noboa actually scored wtf is wrong with vizuete recently given all those results from games weve played i actually wouldnt mind seeing vizuete leave..bring in bauza or a cocach that actually knows wth hes doing

Not bad...hopefully the improvised defense will hold up. It is likely that both Mendez and Castillo will play very deep. I like having Guerron and Ayovi on the wings, it will require Peru to keep their defenders out wide and create space in the middle for our counterattacks.

As far as Tenorio and Rojas, nobody knows much about Tenorio's fitness, Rojas is totally unproven at this level, and they've never played together - but hey - let's see what happens.
