Nowak is not currently with the USMNT per the Ives report. Nowak, 44, was not with the U.S. national team in Miami on Wednesday at its first training session ahead of its upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Costa Rica and Honduras. While it may seem odd for Nowak to jump ship the year before the World Cup, it makes sense for him to do so now since: * I would guess that he is likely going to make more $$ as Philly's head coach than as the USMNT Assistant Coach * he will have more responsibilities than the average MLS coach (quasi- Technical Director/General Manager role - likely have final say on player personnel decisions without worrying about all of the related paperwork) * with these Technical Director/General Manager responsibilities, he can start scouting players now for Expansion Draft, Domestic Free Agent Signing/Trade Possibilities within MLS and USL, Foreign Signings and then add College Scouting in the Fall * he will be no more than 2nd in charge for the USMNT for a while given Bob Bradley's success with the team - the Philly job gives him much more control of a team on a full-time basis * his team (US U23 team) will not play any meaningful games until late 2011 when they try to qualify for the 2012 Olympics
Yeah...I think 2nd in charge is still important, but if they've already replaced him in that role, I guess it makes sense for him to be here with the front office.
Other things to ask: 1. What does he really think of his former DCU teen wonder- boy Freddy Adu? 2. What did he really say to St. Kitts native Atiba Harris (ex-RSL, now Chivas) - during preseason game, said that Harris "should go back to hospital" although he was accused of saying "should go back to Africa". 3. WTF happened in the Olympics against the Netherlands when they had them all but beat until the last minute when Netherlands tied it?
I know that my questions were made in jest but I forgot the necessary B.S. smiles For me, bringing Nowak on board tops what the Front Office did with name, logo and colors and I was a big fan of the Union name. For all of the criticism that was thrown their way over the past few months for perceived lack of activity, the Front Office are really doing things first class on and off the field. I was at MLS Cup in 2004 in LA when Nowak led DCU to victory over KC - he was as excited as any of the players when they won. He is really a great fit for Philly given his no B.S. approach coupled with the passion that he brings to the game. It is good to see that he wanted the Philly job as he left the DCU job in large part to get away from the daily grind of a MLS coach to spend more time in Florida with his family.
this team has made every decision perfectly so far. makes me so much more excited for first kick. was planning to go out to the iron abbey for the first time for this, but have to change plans now that this is going on
Well I would also like to add my excitement to Nowak taking the reigns. He will be an excellent coach/manager for Philly.
Nowak has resigned from the USMNT according to an official US Soccer post on Facebook: Official U.S. Soccer Two more updates today: Peter Nowak has resigned from his position as Men's National Team Assistant Coach and both Landon Donovan and Mia Hamm have joined the USA Bid Commitee for the 2018/2022 FIFA World Cup http://www.facebook.com/pages/Official-US-Soccer/32421823940?ref=ts
