And I have already received inquiries from several friends (who don't go to DCU matches) about going to this one. <sigh>

Maybe they'll be scared off by the $70 price of sideline tickets

with these prices the turnout from the supporters will be low....WAY too much, esp 70 for non season ticket holders! they better give us a damn good deal....ill still go cause its my beloved United, but i know alot of peeps will be out for this price for a friendly!

Here are ticket prices for season ticket holders, add $20 for non-holders.
    Includes parking.

    Lower Bowl Endline, $50.00
    Lower Bowl Corners, $60.00
    Lower Bowl Midfield, $70.00
    Club Level Endline, $80.00
    Club Level Corners, $90.00
    Club Level Midfield, $100.00

I'm hoping that's lower level only. Prices for the upper levels haven't been released, if I'm right.

Personally, I think the price is a little too high for a broad audience, particularly in the current economy. I guess we'll find out when they kickoff.

I am willing to pay around $50 for "a" ticket (it could be for the last seat on the bench and I'm still not paying more than that), and I'm one of the more dedicated DC United fans around, and while I realize Madrid is a big pull, I dunno if this will work.

I plan to go, but only at the right price. It is just a friendly, and it's not at our home, and it is just about making money. Probably my biggest reason for wanting to go at all is because I couldn't go to the last one and it still burns me.

I think this is a hard sell for fans less interested than me.

In my season ticket holder email, I only recall seeing prices for lower bowl and club seats.

I'm not a big fan of friendly matches, but I'll go because it features my team, and I'm kinda stupid like that.

I flew out to the match in Seattle and had a great time. I hope this one will be similar.

mid afternoon August, a sea of asphalt parking lots with no trees at all, a crappy ugly-ass stadium, tickets with included parking fees even if you don't drive or if you carpool, all make me want to watch on TV instead - so what do they do? Stick it on that POS Telefutura.
    Great.

Agreed--this is greed. My current $26 seats go up to $70 even with the discount. And let's face it--Real Madrid ain't Barcelona. If anything, their brand is tarnished because of their association with Beckham (and Guti).

Pretty sure the last Sunday friendly we played was an August hot-athon against Boca Juniors, and that wasn't worth a dime.

For the record, has anyone seen a direct quote from the team on why the game isn't at RFK? Goff cites "a comparable rent agreement" to Qwest, which makes no sense, then "larger seating capacity," which makes sense only if they think they'll draw more than 55,000 against a middling Euro contender, and "the opportunity to pitch the game to the Redskins' massive season ticket holder list." Because Clinton Portis fans care SO much about Ruud van Nistelrooy.

    I'd rather have Superliga.

Beat me to it. Hands down the worst United game I've ever attended. Not worth the sun stroke I almost got. Can't see this one being much better.

I hate Real Madrid with a great hating but even I have to accept that RM are significantly better than "middling Euro contender" whether you're talking squad quality or draw potential.

Anyone clear on the date? My E-mail from United said 9 August 2009.

<edit> Just double checked it's the 9th. Someone should change the thread title.

Re: Goff exclusive: DC United vs. Real Madrid, Aug. 8

The team had better be getting TONS of money for this game, because it jacks up our schedule again. If the team survives the Champions League play-in games, they will have CL group games on or around August 19, August 26, September 16, September 23 and September 30. Now, with the moving of the KC game to September 9 to accomodate the Madrid game, we're talking about playing 6 out of 7 midweeks. If DC happens to qualify for the final of the USOC, the final is on September 1, which would be 7 consecutive midweek games for us. And remember, the USOC final is determined by semifinals that occur 6 weeks earlier in July, so it's not as if the team will know whether or not they have qualified for the CL group stage at that point, to affect what type of team we put out for said semifinal. Honestly, this is madness.

yep, last year we had to move a game so the ********ing metrostars could play some stupid Euro team too, and it really messed up our season even more than it was already.
