I know we're on a bad run of form right now and you're probably dreading each game that the quakes play and that each game cant finish quickly enough.... i know exactly how you're feeling because my team Norwich City put me through exactly the same emotions last year. The curse of Hucks:eek:

Anyhoo, im fully prepared for the game tonight and I fully expect/want the quakes to turn it round and I fully believe we can!

Keep the faith with Yallop, the players and anything is possible.

2-0 Quakes tonight :) GO QUAKES

Thanks. Although IMO as bad as you think the Quakes are now (not disagreeing ) there were 4/5 times last year when Norwich were MUCH MUCH worse.

    Frightening eh?:D

We cellar-dwelling football club fans need to stick together! *grouphug*

    :D

Yeah it sucked to see Norwich drop a league, but I see it as them being one of the better teams in their division now. Half empty half full I suppose.

    Care to explain this....

Yallop didn't really fail with the LA Circus... and the only other team he's coached won the MLS CUP twice.

Yallop & Kinnear put together a very good soccer club in 2001. They also had something to work with, and nothing from bare scratch like the 2008 club.

In 2001, Yallop kept many key guys from the 99-00 contingent. Cannon, Cerritos, Conrad, Russell, Mulrooney, Barrett, Brose, Conway, & Bower. With that they got a solid foundation.

Then Yallop's first move was to get Veteran & Leader Jeff Agoos in a move that sent Mulraine & Conteh to DC United. By adding him to the back line that was the first "natural" leader the quakes had in there history.

Then Yallop added, Landon Donovan, which we all know how he did for us. Then re-signed "The Beast" Troy Dayak, who would pair with Jeff Agoos in the middle of the back line with Ibsen & Barrett who made up one of the stingiest & toughest back lines in MLS history. They let in 28 goals the whole season. Cannon was in goal, and that bolstered his career.

During that time they went and signed a bunch of "MLS Veterans" Manny Lagos, Zak Ibsen & The Return of Ramiro Corrales who became main stays with the team that season.

Dwayne De Rosario was found in the A-League, and up until 2005, he was a a clutch player, not really known as the "dominate" force he is today.

Ronnie Ekelund was brought in to replace Dario Brose who was injured the first part of the year, and he & Mulrooney built one of the strongest center midfield tandems with Russell & Lagos having career years on the wings.

Up top they ran Cerritos & Donovan. Can't get better than that.

And picked up future defender, Eddie Robinson.

We also shipped off Chris Carrieri for Junior Agogo who was a big help in the championship run.

Another reason Kinnear & Yallop were very successful, was Yallop was the cool calm and technical coach, while Kinnear was the loud fire em up balls to the wall coach who pushed them every game.

So saying Yallop wasn't the reason for the Quakes Success is blasphemy. Yallop was signed 3 days before the 2001 draft. Kinnear didn't come into the picture until later.

Both are equally given credit for the success of the San Jose Earthquakes franchise.

Yallop lead us to 2 MLS cup titles. And our first cup came right after 4 crappy seasons, 97-98-99-00. I can argue 99 wasnt that bad, we did at least have a winning record and had we been in the East, we would have finished 2nd. But the shoot out was our killer that season.

2003 we looked to be down and out and we ended up conquering all the odds that season and winning the cup. Everyone was whining & complaning about picking up 3 LA Trash Bag Bench Boys, Craig Waibel, Brian Ching & Brian Mullan. Who turned out to be the 3 players we needed. Waibel, Ching & Mullan all went on to have very successful careers. With Waibel becoming a Fan Favorite everywhere he goes for his play & community work.

2004 the first season Dominic Kinnear took over, many folk on the board here, wanted Kinnears head for most of that season, same with the beginning of 2005. I was one of them. During the off season of 2004-2005, we lost key guys such as Donovan, Mulrooney, Roner, Ekelund, Corrales, Alvarez, Dunivant, Hart, Walker, Brown, Lagos and Cronin.

But Kinnear & Doyle's ability to build a team that AEG basically wanted to run right into the ground 2000 & 1998 style, back fired as we picked up Danny Califf, Alejandro Moreno, the 2nd coming of Ronald Cerritos, Chris Aloisi, Mark Chung, Kelly Gray & Drafting young guys, Julian Nash, Chris Wondolowski, Danny O'Rourke, Kevin Goldthwaite & Aaron Lanes.

    Fast Forward to 2009.

Obviously there's money ball being played into the quakes. If Cannon, Garcia & O'brien got salary cuts. And O'brien getting extremely low balled. So its either Doyle or Beane/Wolff cutting the costs and cutting the rope that dangle players.

I believe that Yallops, ability to coach a soccer team is still there. The LA Fiasco wasn't his fault. That was the Alexi Lalas show. And the team still had a strong push towards the end.

Kelly Gray has been one of our best defenders all season. And to be fair Eric Denton has' done a decent job this year too. Nick Garcia on the other hand...

Cochrane/Gray - Cochrane/Hernandez - Hernandez/Gray any of those combinations in the back are decent at MLS standards.

Really cannot fault Yallop for the dismal effort so far--a combination of not getting the players he wanted plus dealing with the owners has set him back by far.

As for him in LA, he actually did the best he can to handle the circus that was around--here, it's very pale in comparison to what he had to endure with the tabloids. The only thing he has to worry here during his second tenure here is job security.

Now, if the powers that be can loosen up the purse strings AND get an impact player or two (short of a Designated Player) these guys could contend. One of the major reasons behind his successes in San Jose was obviously Landon Donovan and as noted, the cast of players acquired during those glory days. However right now--no star player (unless you count Convey) and the current cast has been built from the ground up.

    ----
Really, it's a matter of being sure that he's still at the helm--he can still coach. However, can he and/or Doyle get the players needed? Yes, I'm repeating myself here--Joe restructured his contract since he's a local product. However, asking O'Brien to do the same was a disaster--and so far the team has suffered on the win column.

It would be nice to see if FY can hang on and get the players he wants and see if these eleven can gel on the field--it worked for the Boston Celtics where they went from a losing run to being a title contender and champion by getting key players in their championship run last year, all while their coach was on the hot seat before their turnaround

Unfortunately, Yallop could be on a short leash which could set the Quakes even further. If he was on a 3 or 5 year plan, he'd be safe but in today's sporting world coaches don't have much time to turn things around or get results so if things do get worse--someone else could be at the helm. One would like to see someone stay on board and have an expansion unit gradually progress but if the team is going backwards there will be a shakeup, be with the roster or the staff.

Thankfully in MLS, there's no relegation worries so it's always back to the drawing board.

Well, maybe YOU should be GM! :D ;)

I'm in favor of a GM switch over a Yallop switch. I like Doyle personally but this is business and I don't see him as GM material. Of course his hands are somewhat tied by the ownership, their vision, and their desire to win.

And, we need a DP...Fox Soccer News last night was saying that Figo was considering a move to MLS, if the right offer was there, but at 36 yo it's hard to know what he has left in the tank...then they referred to us as the "hapless Quakes!"

But beyond the Huckerby signing, the return of the Earthquakes has been a dismal flop...

...at a time when we really needed a competitive team that we could rally behind.

So far, I'm afraid that these guys are doing more harm than good for pro-soccer in our area. Sadly. :(

well QB i agree with you. but yallop has killed the teams he HAS coached..im talking the head of coaching ..not assistant coach...just HEAD coach..he sucks, and he is way in over his head...but backed up with a good head coach i have no doubt that yallop makes a great assistant..other than no, he is a no go for me.

Quakesbabe sometimes you can be a little too nice to our players. Denton is shite and so is Garcia, and Kelly Grey has always been shite and always will be. Riley was better than all of them. We should of kept Riley, him with Hernandez with a quality CB would have helped our D greatly. I still think we are missing an attacking midfielder who can create action and space for our fowards. FY was hoping Convey wud be him but it doesn't look like Convey can cut it in MLS, he might get the boot down to USL.

Convey can hack MLS, but not in the center. At left back he would be fine cause he would be making overlapping runs and be dangerous. He is to small and shrimpy for the center of the park. Also at leftwing he would be okay if he had someone other than denton making the overlapping run to feed it to.

Also, Denton and Gray arn't making the $$$ on this team so while ya, they arn't that great they arn't as much of a problem as Corrales or Garcia.
