It's been a very creative year for several new competitions. I thought it might be nice to have each tournament director post his/her tournament premise, basic rules, and this year's winner and runner up all in one thread. I, for one, really appreciate all the time and effort players spend creating and running our various Rocks competitions.
Re: 2008/09 Tournament Recap Blech's Eliminator Cup All Rocks teams compete together. The team with the lowest score each week is eliminated. You don't have to be the best; just be consistent in not being the worst (for 31 gameweeks in a row). 2008-09 BE-Cup Winner = Duck Butter Bandits Runner-Up = ChrisSuttonSlippers
Re: 2008/09 Tournament Recap Double Eliminator Cup League Cups -- Similar to Blech's Eliminator Cup in concept, except teams compete only against teams in their own league. Teams get a second chance, as the first low score results in a "strike" and they remain in the competition, but a second low score against the remaining teams in your league results in elimination. 2008-09 DE-Cup Winner (SR) -- In off the post Runner Up ---- Aviators 2008-09 DE-Cup Winner (VSR) -- blechs_dawgs Runner Up ----- Pork Soda 2008-09 DE-Cup Winner (Sand) -- Cold Dog Soup Runner Up ------ Zola School 2008-09 DE-Cup Winner (Dust) -- Southside Saturns Runner Up ------ Sasha Juniors Champions DE-Cup -- The four league DE-Cup winners advance to a Champions' Round, that uses the same format. 2008-09 Champions DE-Cup Winner -- blechs_dawgs Runner Up -- Cold Dog Soup
Re: 2008/09 Tournament Recap There is something quirky about the elimination cup....dare I say "peculiar" that I find myself paying close attention to. I think the steady as she goes format counterpoints the big score tournaments quite nicely. To Blech and his time spent for our benefit and DBB for such a solid season! (raise of the pint)
Re: 2008/09 Tournament Recap The TESCO Cup (naming rights courtesy of kopiteinkc*) I tried to design this cup as a throwback to the old style European Cup. Straight knockout with 32 teams playing home and away with away goals counting double in the event of a tie. By way of a spin when playing as the 'home' team goals scored for cup competition purposes came from goals and assists from your fantasy team for that gameweek. When playing as the 'away' team goals scored for cup competition purposes came from clean sheets earned by your fantasy team for that gameweek. This was the first season for the TESCO cup and while I enjoyed it I also felt that there was a slight imbalance in goal scoring when playing away from home. Any thoughts on how to make it better and more enjoyable are most welcome. 1st Winner - LSG Royston Vasey Runner Up - Rat Face Villains FC
Re: 2008/09 Tournament Recap Bump. I also request that once this gets completed, that it becomes a sticky that can be referred to next season and that newcomers can view to see what types of inter and intra league cup competitions we hold.
Re: 2008/09 Tournament Recap Michel may be too shy to post his cups, so I'll cut and paste from his cup organizing thread for this season. The creator of these two cups is Michel, aka 1800-WorldCup.com. He manages the Fantasy Olympics Champion and the Rock Hard Championship Challenge Cup as described below. The Fantasy Olympics League will be used to collect scores for our internal competitions. Nice to see all 32 teams signed up already. Good work league admins! Fantasy Olympic Champion Each week the highest scorer in the drafted leagues will be awarded a gold medal, silver to the second and bronze to the third. If there's a tie for first, 2 golds will be awarded and a bronze for the third - no silver. If there's a tie for second, two silvers will be awarded and no bronze. If there's a tie for third, both teams will get a bronze. The Olympic champion will be the team with the most gold medals at the end of the season, followed by the most silver then most bronze. A team may have more medals at the end of the season and not win, as it's the team with the most gold medals that counts. Visit this web site for the fantasy olympics table updated only through GW27. Do we have the latest table anywhere? http://1800-worldcup.com/fantasy/olympic.htm Rock Hard Championship Challenge Cup The three 12-Week Cups (Autumn, Winter and Spring versions) replace the former Rock Hard Championship Challenge Cup format; although the trademarked name will remain. All drafted teams entered into the Olympic Championship League are eligible to play. Gameweeks 1 and 2 will be used to get the Olympic Championship League table rolling and allow managers to make post draft adjustments to snap up players still in the pool who turn out to be the hottest thing around since Berbatov's hairband. 12-Week Autumn Cup Table positions will be recorded after Gameweek 2 and the competition will run from Gameweek 3 to Gameweek 14. 2008/9 Rock Hard Championship Challenge Cup's Autum Cup Champion - Raytown Rangers (4 Pts); Runner-Up -ThisIsAnfield FC (3 Pts); Third Place - Bettermirror MCFD (2 Pts) 12-Week Winter Cup Table positions will be recorded after Gameweek 14 and the competition will run from Gameweek 15 to Gameweek 26. 2008/9 Rock Hard Championship Challenge Cup's Winter Cup Champion - LSG Royston Vasey (5 Pts); Runner-Up ThisIsAnfieldFC (4 Pts); Third Place - Old Peculiar (3 Pts) 12-Week Spring Cup Table positions will be recorded after Gameweek 26 and the competition will run from Gameweek 27 to Gameweek 38. 2008/9 Rock Hard Championship Challenge Cup's Spring Cup Champion - Winner of Vegas Virgins vs Duck Butter Bandits (10 Pts for Champion, 6 Pts. for Runner-Up); Third Place - Winner of Sasha Juniors vs Old Peculiar (4 Pts for Third Place) Rock Hard Championship Challenge Cup Table for Autumn and Winter Cups: 7 ThisIsAnfield FC 5 LSG Royston Vasey 4 Raytown Rangers 3 Old Peculiar 2 Bettemirror MCFD Whoever wins between Vegas Virgins and Duck Butter Bandits for the Spring Cup will also be the overall Champion. Whoever loses will be Runner-Up for the Spring Championship and could finish no higher than 3rd place for the season. If Old Peculiar wins the Spring Cup Third Place match, he will move into a tie for 2nd place for the season with ThisIsAnfield FC. If Old Peculiar loses to Sasha Juniors, ThisIsAnfield FC will finish as sole Runner-Up for the season and the loser of the Vegas Virgins vs Duck Butter Bandits match would finish in 3rd Place for the season.
Re: 2008/09 Tournament Recap We used to have League Cups and Fantasy Cups for each league. Mark, aka Kopiteinkc used to run some of these. Last year there was a Sheep Blatters Cup in the Sand Division, did it revert to just the Sand table this year? Are there any other cups that should be mentioned?
Re: 2008/09 Tournament Recap FPL ran some Cup Competitions as well. Of course, the drafted leagues are somewhat at a disadvantage over drafted teams who can have several of the big 5 players. In FPL's The Fantasy Cup, our Last Rock's Team standing was In Off The Post who made it to the 6th round. Cold Dog Soup bowed out in the 5th round and Aviators bowed out in the 4th round.

Re: 2008/09 Tournament Recap I'm 1st place in the random generated league we all get assigned to on the FPL site. One game to go and I think I'm almost guaranteed top spot.
Re: 2008/09 Tournament Recap Actually Hal, I was waiting until it was over to post it, so the winner could be highlighted at the bottom. LSG and Duckbutter can now throw virtual rotten fruit your way
Re: 2008/09 Tournament Recap Wow. Just like my team today it looks like I've lost the league(FPL random) and will finish in 2nd place...
Re: 2008/09 Tournament Recap I have to step in for the boys on Old Peculiar to suggest that they are in the running to win this since they bumped off Vegas Virgins in week 37 to set up a final with Duck Butter Bandits. We were written out as having no chance to win 3 weeks ago but found new life when a mathematical error was corrected. I believe we still live again to win the whole thing out right.
Re: 2008/09 Tournament Recap I wish I could keep doing these, but for about the last three seasons the fantasy site has been blocked for me at work, hence their demise. I could do them at home, but there's no fun in that ...
Re: 2008/09 Tournament Recap Here is the top of the table for the 2008/09 Fantasy Olympic Championship: Congrats to Craig Powell for the 6 Gold Medals won by his team, Vegas Virgins, the Rock's 2008/09 Fantasy Olympic Champion! Pos-Gold-Silver-Bronze-Team-Manager 1----6 3 1 VegasVirgins (SR) Craig Powell 2----3 2 2 Aviators (SR) Hal Jones 3----3 0 1 VCC (Sand) Ric Anderson Also noteworthy for consistency, were the managers and teams with the most trips to the podium over 38 weeks. Total podium Trips-Gold-Silver-Bronze-Team-Manger 11-2 2 7 blechs_dawgs (VSR) Paul Blechner 10-6 3 1 VegasVirgins (SR) Craig Powell 9--2 5 2 LSG Royston Vasey (VSR) Jonathan Ingram 9--2 5 2 Duck Butter Bandits (Dust) Tripp Long
Re: 2008/09 Tournament Recap Not to take away from Paul's great season, see the previous thread for this year's Fantasy Olympic Champion which was won by Vegas Virgins.
Re: 2008/09 Tournament Recap Instead of to the Olympics, the reference in Tarvinodos' post above regarding Old Peculiar's Cup victory should be to the Spring season of the Rock Hard Challenge Cup, which in turn also makes Old Peculiar the overall winner of the Rock Hard Championship. Having already secured promotion and even a last day come-from-behind league title, there is no "twist" to be had this year.....
From https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=691990&page=3: Since we've already got a sticky here, I've just dragged it over - perhaps we can get the title of the thread changed to All Rocks History. I believe everyone has already conceded the championship in Small Rocks, but I suppose it's not official yet. Here are the current leaders with 1 week to play: Small Rocks Champ: FC Springfield (95 point lead) Very Small Rocks Champ: Rockville Gunners (52 point lead) Sand League Champ: Bettermirror MCFD (31 point lead) Dust League Champ: FC St. Pauli (74 point lead) This will need to be updated in a week, and older seasons still need to be added, but here's my stab at adding the current season and last season, with the note that the Cup Champs are limited to the All Rocks champs and that there have been additional winners of the league DE-Cups that are not listed below (who then went on to the Champions DE-Cup): 2009-2010 Small Rocks Champ: xxx Very Small Rocks Champ: xxx Sand League Champ: xxx Dust League Champ: xxx Rock Hard Championship Cup Champ: xxxx 2010 All Rocks World Cup Champ: xxxx Olympic Championship Champ: FC Springfield All Rocks Golden Boot Champ: xxxx Blech's Eliminator Cup Champ: LSG Cambridge Champion's Double Eliminator Cup Champ: Bettermirror MCFD The TESCO Cup Champ: Bettermirror MCFD All-Rocks Rotisseire Shield Cup: xxxx 2008-2009 Small Rocks Champ: Vegas Virgins Very Small Rocks Champ: blechs_dawgs Sand League Champ: ColdDogSoup FC Dust League Champ: Duck Butter Bandits Rock Hard Challenge Cup Champ: Old Peculiar Olympic Championship Champ: Vegas Virgins All Rocks Golden Boot Champ: Duck Butter Bandits Blech's Eliminator Cup Champ: Duck Butter Bandits Champion's Double Eliminator Cup Champ: blechs_dawgs The TESCO Cup: LSG Royston Vasey 2007-2008 Small Rocks Champ: Windsor Wanderers Very Small Rocks Champ: FC Springfield Sand League Champ:Blechs_Dawgs Dust League Champ: Welsh Dragonsox Rock Hard Championship Cup Champ: FC Springfield Olympic Championship Champ: FC Springfield All Rocks Golden Boot Champ: Rat Face Villians Blech's Eliminator Cup Champ: Kopite Juniors Champion's Double Eliminator Cup Champ: FC Springfield Sheep Bladders Cup Champ: Windsor Wanderers
Thanks - I'm almost done. You started both your cups in the 2007-2008 season, right? I bumped up the All Rocks History Thread... I'll post what I have later today with all the league and Cup winners. Additionally, Lobo Lobo and I are going to try to find out the composition of each division over the past few seasons so I put together a history of each player and where they played.

Re: 2008/09 Tournament Recap In case any is interested, I think I'm done identifying players by league each season. I'm not sure I'm going to post it here, but here are some interesting stats about the history of our league: - The Small Rocks Division is in its 9th season, active since the 2002-2003 season (was named "Very Small Rocks" however for first two seasons). Over the course of the nine seasons, 6 players have won the trophy. doctorjones24 is the only person to win the title twice (unless I hold on to win this year ). Biggest shock - Aviators have never been champion - Of the inaugural 8 players in the 2002-2003 Small Rocks division, 6 remain today - Hal (Aviators), Ingromius (LSG Cambridge), kopiteinkc (Kopite Juniors), Clan (Inoffthepost FC), 1800-World Cup (1800-UK.com), and doctorjones24 (Yellowcake Phantoms). - Hal (Aviators) and Michel (1800-UK.com) are the only players to not be relegated from the Small Rocks division since its inception. With Michel likely to be relegated this season, Aviators remains the only team to not experience the VSR, Sand, or Dust divisions. - Since its inaugural season in 2004-2005, 5 different players have won the Very Small Rocks Division. Windsor Wanderers are the only team to win the league twice - both times they participated. - Since the inaugural 2006-2007 Sand division season, three different teams have raised the trophy. Rat Face Villians FC is the only member of that inaugural season to play in the Small Rocks division. - Since joining in 2007-2008 in the Sand division, blechs_dawgs has been promoted every season - In the nine seasons of the Rock Hard Championship Cup, 5 players have won the trophy. FC Springfield is the only repeat winner, with three titles - A total of 57 players have participated in this league since 2002. Another 7 joined in 2005-2006 to form the inaugural Sand division, but the league never made it off the ground. - Over the course of the last 9 seasons, 17 managers have chosen different names for their team. Hats off to Mark as Kopite Juniors is the only team name that has survived intact all nine seasons
Re: 2008/09 Tournament Recap Hats off for the summary, must spread rep ... I believe I might be the only one who has kept the same manager intact too: Chloe Adams. The little toddler who threw her Barbie doll when Shearer didn't score every week is now 14 and throwing her I-pod at Gerrard when he makes a bad backpass.
