So, I’ve been thinking that this might be a great time to establish our official song. We would sing it before all matches and maybe when enough of us gather at the pub (just to make people uncomfortable).

The song would have to have a San Antonio connection, words that feel like they mean something (and that can be easily altered to taunt opponents or add local heroes), and that indefinable “it” quality.

I have a suggestion that I think fits all of those categories….and then some.

First, there is this song, which I can imagine singing at the end of every match:

    Davy Crockett Theme Song w/Audio

I don't think this becomes our official theme song, but it should definitely be in heavy rotation.

    For the official song...

    My Suggestion:

In the Air Tonight by Phil Collins…

I laughed at first, but when I got to thinking about it…

Look at the words. All about expectation. We are a supporters group without a team. We live on expectation. And every time we sing it once we get a team, we’ll be reminded of the long days (years) of waiting to even have the chance to support a club.

Second, the words are easily customizable. And they are a little bit angry. Sort of sets the stage. (I can remember being in the car on the way to the Alamodome before Game 1 of the 1999 NBA Finals. WOAI played “In the Air Tonight” as their intro to the broadcast. San Antonio waited a long time for the Spurs to reach that level – and that song fired people up going into the game – strange, but true.)

Third, Phil Collins LOVES the Alamo. He is one of the largest private collectors of Alamo memorabilia in the world. No joke. I bet the dude (who is British and might just know a thing or two about real football) would join us. Heck, we could make him an honorary member right off the bat.

There is more, but I’ll wait for reaction before going further. I am prepared for some strange looks on this one. Be honest. What do you think?

I can feel it coming in the air tonight, oh lord
Ive been waiting for this moment, all my life, oh lord
Can you feel it coming in the air tonight, oh lord, oh lord

Well, if you told me you were drowning (Well if you told me you were from Austin)
I would not lend a hand
Ive seen your face before my friend
But I dont know if you know who I am

Well, I was there and I saw what you did
I saw it with my own two eyes
So you can wipe off the grin, I know where youve been
Its all been a pack of lies

And I can feel it coming in the air tonight, oh lord
Ive been waiting for this moment for all my life, oh lord
I can feel it in the air tonight, oh lord, oh lord
And Ive been waiting for this moment all my life, oh lord, oh lord

Well I remember, I remember dont worry
How could I ever forget, its the first time, the last time we ever met
But I know the reason why you keep your silence up, no you dont fool me
The hurt doesnt show; but the pain still grows
Its no stranger to you or me

And I can feel it coming in the air tonight, oh lord...

In The Air Tonight...i love it!

there is such a build-up in this song...such anticipation...and like you said, phil collins loves the alamo...and probably soccer as well. how could he not love this idea...

my credo: if it's good enough for phil collins, it's good enough for me.

"you coming back to me is against all odds. it's a chance i've gotta take."

I am familiar with the song and the build-up you speak of. I guess I need to hear it "chant-ized" to be sold.

I'll come up with a few ideas myself.

As far as official I would like to have something with original lyrics of our own. It can still be based on a song we know but the words our own. I don't want to make the decision on anything official by myself.

I've been working on something (maybe corny to some) but haven't finalized it yet. a hint: crocketteers rhymes with fear, beer, cheer, near, etc... Yes i realize it rhymes with queer too but whoever would use queer with crockett is committing some sort of Texas blasphemy. So i think we are safe from that. :)

This goes good with a marching song I can't find online. I would like to say its an american anthem or military patriotic tune. Maybe it english. I dunno

    First Verse:
    Crocketteers, Crocketteers, We are Here!
    Crocketteers, Crocketteers, We will Cheeeeeeeer!

Crocketteers have no fear... We drink Beer!
    Crocketteers, Crocketteers!

    Second Verse (Optional):
    Crocketteers, Crocketteers, Time is Near!
    Crocketteers, Crocketteers, Let them Heeeeaaaar!

    Austin Aztex will always fear...
    Crocketteers, Crocketteers!

not a bad start...but what if we don't drink beer?

and i'm not too keen on the mention of the austin aztex. it reminds me of the texas a&m fight song that is littered with texas longhorns references...it not so much shows comraderie for their team as much as it shows dislike for someone else...which is really silly when they are not playing each other. it should be sung with common affection...something that can be sung at any game (regarless of opponent) and make sense...just my thoughts.

i do picture people standing in the bleachers, jumping and singing this song with hands in the air though...which is fun!

Interchangable? Idea: Replace Austin Aztex with team we are playing.

Hrmm if you don't drink beer and are not offended by the chant, then its not a problem. :p

It's very difficult to come up with songs before knowing the teams name
but we can always make songs that have to do with San Antonio pride or just general songs that can be easily changed to add the teams name in it.

    Here's my suggestions:
    - The best and most original song I've heard was from Sevilla (Spain), I think it was the song "Yankee Doodle Dandy" and made their song with the same tune.
    - The easiest way to make songs... is to copy somebody else's.
I can show you guys a bunch of them from South America to see if you all like any of them.

Heres on just need to change it up a bit

    San Antonio Rose
Deep within my heart lies a melody,
A song of old San Antone,
Where in dreams I live with a memory,
    Beneath the stars all alone.

It was there I found beside the Alamo,
Enchantment strange as the blue up above
A moon-lit pass that only she would know,
Still hears my broken song of love.
Moon in all your splendor, know only my heart,
Call back my Rose, Rose of San Antone.
Lips so sweet and tender, like petals falling apart
Speak once again of my love, my own.

Broken song, empty words I know,
Still live in my heart all alone
For that moon-lit pass by the Alamo,
And Rose, my Rose of San Antone.

You are no troll but still Travis and Austin (the people) would probably consider it blasphemy. And the name Aztex is blasphemy to the Aztecs. :)

Here's just an example of what I was saying,
    I'd take this song

    The stars at night,
    Are big and bright,
Deep in the heart of Texas

and change to (I did it in 30 seconds, so it's a little crappy)
    The crocketteers,
    will always win,
    Let's go crocketteers!!!
