I would have to agree on the Boxx/ Osborne comment. Would like to see Osborne called up in July if ready.

Bock has been playing defense on the back line for LA Sol since game one. IMO, although she's played forward and mid for Notre Dame, defense may actually be her ticket to a stay with the full national team. Pia has said she is looking for defenders and Bock has adjusted very well playing defense in LA. The national team is loaded with midfeilders and forwards, but building a permanent, stable, defense I think is a work in progress. Since Bock knows how to score, pass without panic, and has excellent vision, this may actually be her ticket.

Heard a rumor that Japan is considering pulling out from the scheduled games with U.S. in May (due to health concerns, swine flu) - anyone else hear this?

Would seem awfully late to be doing this and bad form if true.

Certainly, considering the quality of her all-around game (she was probably the best ND had at three different positions her senior year), I'm not surprised she's made the transition with aplomb. I knew she was playing with L.A. (saw her in photos of the game at Boston), but didn't realize they had converted her to defense.

TOKYO — The Japanese women's football team has canceled a tour to North America because of the swine flu outbreak.

The Japan Football Association announced the decision Tuesday.

The team was scheduled to play the United States in Frisco, Texas, on May 20 and in Sandy City, Utah, three days later before taking on Canada in Toronto on May 25.

The JFA has yet to hear from American and Canadian football officials since informing them of its decision and said it may have to pay damages for breach of contract.

Japan's health ministry confirmed the fourth case of swine flu on Sunday, a day after the country's first three were reported. The ministry said the fourth case is a teenager who recently returned from Canada on a high school trip with the three others. -AP

Well that sucks. I doubt they'd be able to find another team to play with such short notice. I was looking forward to seeing what some of these newer players would be capable of doing.

Completely lame! However, I'm glad WSH will have Abby and Sawa for May 23.

Canada's in the same boat-- you'd think they could save at least one of the dates for each by playing each other now, and work on replacing the games they had scheduled later...
