Baresi came close but he has been gone snce 97. I seem to remember watching a few matches without and before Maldini but can not remember how they played, Milan in the last 20 years however, have won everything with Paolo in the team. They won some in the 60's with Maldini Sr and a few in the 70's but Paolo Maldini has been awesome forever...

that was a pretty nice video. i wanted to get to milan for juve game or the roma game so i could see maldini play one more time, but the flights are too full for me to get there. major bummer, but at least i can still get them on tv.

Maldini 6.5 Pulito ed efficace in difesa. Nel primo tempo colpisce bene di testa indirizzando verso la porta siciliana, sulla linea Izco gli nega la gioia del gol.

Maldini 6.5 Clean and sufficient on defense. In the 1st half he even had a header going forward that was cleared off the line by Izco, who denied him scoring a scoring chance.

Yes the king is almost dead.....unfortunately. It will be really weird seeing Milan play without a Tassotti, Galli Baresi Costacurta and Maldini. I don't think I remember them without those guys...

You would think Milan would grant him a farewell tour around the world.......I remember seeing Bayer Leverkusen & Rudi Völler play in 1996 against San Jose and I remember asking him in Italian if he wanted to try MLS...he said no but I remember seeing him score one final goal and it was a lasting memory...

Maldini 6: sufficienza di stima, non di merito. Non ci è piaciuto lo scatto di nervi con Chiellini. Era il suo ultimo Milan-Juve, ci si aspettava esperienza e maturità per fronteggiare un Chiellini in super serata.

Maldini 6: sufficiency but not because he deserves it. No one liked his agression towards Chiellini. It was his last Milan-Juve, one waited for experience and maturity to confront a super Chiellini.

Maldini to play his 900th league match in Serie A against Udinese........he said on TG1 his only regret really was that he never got a chance to play with Maradona....

Intersting how he will be heading the youth movement. The same thing happened with Franco Baresi in 1997 after he retired. I don't think he is still with the club . I know he went to England and then came back but I wonder what happened to him?

Report: Maldini To Take Charge Of AC Milan Youth System
The Rossoneri captain may continue his work for the club sooner than expected.

I believe with Maldini's retirement, an era of Milan is definitely over! Hope Maldini will manage well his new job but, I'd really like to see him more into coaching some team, gain experience as a manager and then come back to Milan with sufficient experience to become Milan's new manager. That's how it should be as in my opinion, Maldini has the ability and personality of becoming a world-class manager.

    rating against Udinese........

Maldini 5.5 Arranca spesso su Floro Flores.

Maldini 5.5 Keeps trying to catch Floro Flores.

Last night the cpaitano was on the domenica sportiva. In the show, they said stadiums all around Italy would give him a one minute standing O for his final match.....I don't think no one has ever had that.. he said he had no regrets leaving the national team after the 2002 World Cup. He said Totti and Nesta were right to do so because of nagging injuries.....

I guess his last home game will be against Roma...It's always an honour for players to be part of history when a player of Paolo's stature retires. But, i look forward to when he will play a friendly match with the Azzurri after he retires. That will be something extraordinary.

players just don't tackle like he does anymore, other than nesta. those two not only pick you clean, they have the balance, skill and precision to keep possession. combine that with maldini's immense technical skills (buoni piedi indeed) and his reading of the game that only a coach's boy and true student of calcio can pick up, add in athleticism and a fit build, nice aerial ability, combined with leadership, composure, and a competitive engine that never gives up...you have maldini and you have an all-timer. you only get to see about 2-3 players (at most) every 12-15 years who can legitimately compete for all-time spots, milan fans witnessed 3 of them on one team all in their prime with van basten, baresi, and maldini...that is why most of the older milan fans are so spoiled :D (not to mention two other players in rijkaard and gullit who are merely on the best XI of the decade instead of all-time XI oh and some other top class players like donadoni and ancelotti just thrown in for good measure)

    what a player

I would have like to see him play right back., I'm sure in the last 22 years he has played the position at least once or twice but I can't ever recall him playing that position. It would have been fun to see though. I mean if he was as great a right back as a left back using his right foot on the left, I can just imagine how good he could have been on the right side?

yeah, i'm sure he would have been fine. in fact, the story goes he was a right back, more so than left, but when the coach asked him where he wanted to play before his senior debut, right or left, he said left...and the rest e' la storia.

Well Panucci has played on both sides in his early Milan days and so did Antonio Bennarrivo with Parma and the same with Zambrotta ...I just never remember Maldini playing there.

nah, not that i can remember, either, but I don't think it was from not being able to play there, he just didn't really need to, as tassotti was damn good on the right, and then as you mention later a young panucci, so he stayed on the left.

Another thing I would have liked to see more from Maldini was more goal scoring. He even admitted this hismelf on the domenica sportiva.......I mean he played 900 matches and only scored 33 times as opposed to Christian Panucci who played 464 games and scored 38 goals.....I guess Panucci had more of a knack for going up though.....

yeah, but he never attacked as much and was never reckless, he left the team very balanced, and timed his runs well, usually getting possession and then passing up the pitch. he could have scored more goals, no doubt, especially if he took more pops at goal from long-range (low percentage, but if you fire away enough a few of those will go in) and left his flank more exposed, but for just a couple of more goals a season (which would really add up over a long career such as his), the amount of possession you lose when the shots don't come off, plus the times you leave your team unbalanced if you always storm forward and start cutting in centrally a lot, actually makes your team worse off on net.

    He was very disciplined

and he also became the oldest person to score in a Champions League Final. Too bad, it didnt amount to anything, but it was still class.

here are some of his goals. seems he used to score a lot more in 90s than he did in the 00s.

    Grazie Capitano.

I have never known a Milan team without him. Inspiration to all. I have never seen a player get so much respect from everyone. Friends, foes, teammates, rivals, it doesnt matter. No one has a bad word to say about him. And for a player that has been around for 25 years, that is almost impossible. The beautiful game will be much less beautiful without him.
