I do think Scott has shut down many attacking opportunities by himself. I'm not his biggest fan because he does get out of position quite often, but he does work his hardest to catch up with his marker. Taking the Toronto game for example, he pinched in towards the middle a bit too much vs Wynne, and he almost got burned. But he did hustle back a lot and won many tackles by cleaning up in the middle of the defense. Sometimes I wonder if we're not better off having Scott in the middle, Sturgis on the left, and Marshall the odd man out. I'm no big fan of Marshall at all.
The thing is, San Jose is not playing well right now either, and have several players questionable for the game, including Huckerby. Defensively we might be missing 3 of the 4 players who have played centerback this season, so, would have to play someone out of position to fill the gap. If Huckerby is out, I expect either Arturo Alvarez to slide over from his RMF position to the left, or Convey may start there and Alvarez stay on the right. They also may put Convey at left back behind Alvarez which would make for some speed and skill on the left, with Shea Salinas starting on the right. Salinas and Alvarez are both pretty quick and could give Scott and Riley problems. Former USL Sounder Cam Weaver lost his starting job to Pablo Campos last week against LA, and Campos responded with a goal, so, it remains to be seen if Cam starts or not. Former Oregon star Ryan Johnson has started every game at forward, but, has been slightly hobbled with an ankle injury, and has not played that well imo. Usually he is relentless, and wears down the centerback, but, I really haven't seen that this season. I think San Jose is going to have to play above and beyond their recent efforts to have any chance of taking points in Seattle. Though the Quakes have a fake turf practice field, this will be their first league game on it.
Jose Romero said that Alonso was likely to play yesterday. He has a quadriceps contusion but he's running fine.
And I did not point out Zach until 3 matches of watching him get beat. Unfortunately I do not have the matches recorded to point out specifics. And I acknowledged that it could be something I am seeing in the replays when I can watch at leisure since I mostly know what is going to happen. I am not saying I don't like Zach, just that I think other teams are going to start exploiting him as the weak link in our D. The Seba suggestion was mostly inspired by how tenacious he plays maybe it wouldn't work, it happens, but a change even for one night could shake things up.
Speculation: That's what we as fans do. That's also why we have managers. I like your thinking though. Status quot isn't always bad, because sometimes the situation is as good as it can be, but sometimes it's a trap into mediocrity. I have faith Sigi will come through with the right choice.
can anyone give me the url for the pregame radio show? I know it's buried in a thread somewhere. I thought I book marked it, but apparently I haven't.
where did you get the starting lineups from? whats teh rest of the lineup? Edit: silly me, I forget that there are other sources like MLSnet sometimes. I'm just so dependent on bigsoccer and all these people here who have inside info.
Nope, MLSNET.com is completely blank on matchcenter for the third week in a row, ADTHE.net had a really interesting russian crime drama under its listing for the match until that went blank.
i know zakuani's good on 1v1, but does anyone thinks he should look up and find open players more often?
what i like to see for second half adjustment, move evans into the AMF, and Ljungberg to the right flank.
