After many years my $50 Philips region free dvd player (hacked by moi) has given up the ghost. Obviously getting it fixed is not even an option. Since I have to replace it I thought I might as well go with a DVD recorder. Anyone have a preferred model. This Philips has treated me right. Requirements: region/code free naturally, s-video out, preferably will record in all formats but -R will do. I try to avoid off brands. I've seen all the sites, including Amazon, offering the items so I know where to get 'em, I just need to hear from someone who has direct experience, good or bad with this thing about what to get. I found this but the few reviews on it aren't solid: http://www.world-import.com/Philips_DVD-R3390_Region_Free_Pal_Ntsc_DVD_Recorder.htm Hurry now, I have several flicks from the Ealing Studios boxed set on deck.
Any particular model you would recommend? BTW I feel like a family pet has died. This unit has to have been the best Grant's I've ever spent.
The ones on YesAsia cost an arm and a leg, but that's because they have internal hard drives. How much are you willing to spend?
Like many things, it depends. I shell out some coin for something that'd last. I'm currently not HD so some of the stuff doesn't matter. That said I'm planing to upgrade at some point now that LCD/Plasma seems priced for non Dubai high rollers.
