After every match...post your MOTM and player ratings if you want. Then we discussion can start after every match over our best performed players.

We can start with Blackburn this weekend, given that the Chelsea match is one that we will want to forget.

    Masch for me, period.

Maybe a case for Gerrard too

i know i broke the rule of the thread, but unless masch goes and scores 20 own goals on us on purpose and shoots torres with a jellyfish, then he'll stay my 08-09 motm

I was making this thread for people to discuss MOTM for every match, but thats ok.

Anway...Xabi has clearly been our best/most consistent player and has only had 2 poor matches (Middlesbrough & Chelsea).

Agreed with Xabi being our most consistent, but I think we'd be in a lot worse position without Masch than Xabi. Both are pretty much indispensible though. I digress from the topic at hand though, carry on :D

OK I admit we are more than a bit head strong, the lot of us, but this is Man of The Match not Player of the Year. We should start with Blackburn.

...I know, as I clearly pointed out in my first post. Any game Masch plays, he is a lock for MOTM in my eyes, period. VERY few exceptions.

    Hmmm...

I wouldn't say VERY so strongly.

Even in games Mascherano is in, one can make a case for several different players depending on how well they play.

Usual candidates for MOTM are as follows:

Gerrard, Carragher, Mascherano, Alonso, Kuyt, Torres

Outsiders that sometimes get a look at MOTM are as follows:

    Riera, Skrtel, Reina, Benayoun

For me I think it's usually Gerrard, Torres, Reina, Mascherano.

    Then; Carragher, Alonso, Kuyt.

Due to the two goals -- Torres

2nd MOTM -- Insua and Mash in an Argentine Twins package

    El Nino. Two fantastic goals.

Insua and Riera played really well too though. Actually the entire midfield played well.

Yeah. Torres because of the two goals.

I thought Riera, Insua, and Mascherano also played well enough to deserve an honorable mention.

I think an honorable mention is do for Stop N'gog. Even discounting the goal he was very lively and skilled in his cameo.

Chelsea vs Liverpool @ Plastic Bridge

    1. Xabi Alonso...great game.

    2. Mascherano

    3. Lucas

These three were instrumental in keeping Essien, Ballack and Lampard quite. Yes Lampard got two goals, but they were after Masch was withdrawn and when we had no RB and a defence of just Carra, Skrtel and Aurelio.

    Alonso was awesome.

Such a shame we couldn't win in the end.

Aurelio was mediocre in defense. Not my pick.

All our defenders were mediocre. He scored a nice goal and his free kicks caused trouble...

I vote Alonso. He was running the show in the first half.

I think you've got his position and role in the team confused for a winger.

His first job is to defend, then he can attack. There's no use having a good attack if your defenders a conceding 3 goals per game. Yes he was fairly good in attack, but being completely outplayed in defence and looking slow, in both his mind and physically means he wouldnt make it near the top 3.

If you cant appreciate a his effort in containing Ballack and Essien especially, then you've probably been influenced by the media and those fans that hang shit our own players and you have pre-conceived ideas on Lucas before he even plays.

I thought he had a great game. And he had perhaps my favorite moment when with Chelski up 3-2 Dogmeat dove for a free kick for the 50th time. Lucas, the twenty year old, got in his grill and you could see him telling Dogbreath to get up and respect the game ---you are already winning try playing football. He even made the universal diving gesture at Dogboy. No screaming just telling him that he lacked class. I think Lucas is a keeper! We have the best combination of 4 midfielders in the world.
