The candidates have been chosen for the PFA Player's Player of The Year and the PFA Young Player of The Year. The list is dominated by Manchester United players, with Steven Gerrard being the only non United player. Cristiano Ronaldo will look to get a hatrick of PFA awards with Nemanja Vidic and Steven Gerrard being the favourites. Jonny Evans who has featured in many United games is in the PFA Young Player of The Year nominees alongside fellow United player Rafael Da Silva. On the same night as the awards, the PFA Team of The Year will be announced.

So the award will automatically go to Steven Gerrard as the only non-United candidate. All United players are forced to vote for him as they can't vote for a team-mate!

It's ridiculous really to have so many United players on the list now that their form has collapsed.

Not at all sure how it works but for some reason always assumed a system like this:

    • Voting papers go out and players vote for anyone they like (with the exception of someone from their own team).
    • Shortlist/nominees are announced which are the 6 people with the most votes.

Even if that is the case, it's true that our players still can't vote for themselves but would have spread their vote around a bit more.

I am not shocked to see the Liverpool fans moaning that Ronaldo is in where as Torres isn't.

It is a bit shit that every United player will have to vote for Steven Gerrard!

But every Liverpool player has to vote for a United player, so it almost evens out.

But Liverpool players can vote for any five United players. Some may vote for VDS, some may vote for Rio, some may vote for Vidic, some may vote for Ronaldo and some may vote for Giggs. It isn't like all of their votes will definitely go towards Vidic for example.

Officials I think. Don't know which officials. Players will vote.

i think StarFish will win but i hope somehow Giggsy will get it.

don't really care about the young player one but i think it's between Young and Ireland.

It's a pretty ludicrous list, mainly due to the idiotic nature of this award being voted on in February. Why can't they wait an entire season, or at least until May? These players surely aren't clamoring for another bit of silverware. Even then, it's a completely lopsided and frankly undeserved list for alot of the players on it.

Ryan Giggs - completely based on sentiment
    Cristiano Ronaldo - undeserved - can't believe he's in but Lampard isn't
Gerrard - hardly merits his place as well, just look at who he scored his goals against
Ferdinand/Vidic - good defensive record as a pair... but as individuals, only Vidic for me

Lampard should be on. Hangelaand(sp) should be on. Jagielka should be on.

Footballers are really stupid as ********.

    Made my day. :)

Well, it's meant to be done at this time so the "business end" of the season doesn't skew the votes.

For example, a player like Gerrard could be throroughly averge for 8 months, but then in the final month he could turn it on and win the lot. If voting was done at the end of the season then he'd walk away with the award which wouldn't be very good as the award is for player of the year, not player of the final month.

So, as these votes were taken in February and United at that time were flying, it's no surprise that the list is full-to-brimming with United players. Seeing as we're top of the league, still in the FA Cup, still very much in the Champions League and have already won the WCW and the League Cup, I see no reason why this list might be wrong, just because we've sklipped up in recent weeks.

I think Gerrard may win it mind. It doesn't bother me though. Individual awards are icing on the cake for me but unless you have a cake to put them on they're useless. Ronaldo's awards last year were nice but only after he'd delivered the league and Champions League titles.

Gerrard can keep his award if he wins it. A club like United have got their eyes on much bigger fish that can be fried.

A lot of them just don't watch much football imo.

Some good points you made in your post as well.

Guess one solution would be to have them vote twice, or even more across the season if they could organise it. Tally up the points and there's your winner. On the face of it, you'd expect a 'fairer' or more accurate result that way. Might just make it a bit of a chore for the players though.

See what you're saying Harry, but a player that goes off the boil for the 2nd half of the season could still win the award the way it is now.

PGR im taking a guess because the players vote for who should take the award. CR7ToRossi might be correct.

Wouldn't change things dramatically though. The likes of $tevie me and Ronaldo would still get nominated. I am surprised EBJT did not get a nomination this time around

In all fairness, there is no outstanding player this season. No-one really has performed consistently at a very high level throughout the season.

Honestly, and I hate to say it, but for I'd go with Lampard. Ballack was/still kinda is shite, Essien was hurt, Malouda is poor all the time, Drogba couldn't care less, Ashley Cole is shite...on and on, but one person kept them going, and that was Lamps.

Or if players are so dull that they can't vote on the basis of the entire season they could just scrap the award.;)

I think it is ridiculous the voting happens when it does.

Scrapping all awards would be the best solution.

The same way you do already, by seeing which player has the best six-pack.
