Van Bommel: "I wanted to say that Franck is a great player and that he could play for Barca one day. I wasn't talking about next season. But my Spanish isn't good, I will never give an interview in Spanish again."

Uli and Kalle met with Ribery's agents in Barcelona last Wednesday. They made it clear they won't allow him to leave until 2011 under any circumstances and they soon want to discuss a contract extension.

Dude, you and I both know that Uli and KHR can say whatever the hell they want.

We both also know if Ribery doesn't want to stay and you guys don't want to lose your investment, you're selling him after next season at the latest.

The worst possible scenario is to let him go for free after the 10/11 season. Other than that I'm pretty relaxed about this topic. If we keep him good, if he wants to leave and other teams are willing to open their pockets, we'll get enough money to revamp the team and to build a more balanced squad. Win-win situation.

Bayern would be wise to actually learn something from the Ballack situation.

No way Ribery goes on a free.

If I was management, I would make a deal with Ribery. Get him an extension with a deal. By 2011, he can leave but would have the 2 year extension he got at the end of the summer. We would be nice to let him leave, but he would be nice to get an extension simply so we get money for him.

Exactly. Which is why I think you guys SHOULD sell him.

I also believe one of the problems at Bayern is that you've become TOO DEPENDENT on him.

You guys can get the pieces you're missing with the transfer fee he'll command.

I'm slowly beginning to lean your way on this one Footy....if we had quality horses spread around the field, it would take a lot of pressure off him. As it is, nearly everything funnels through him and the other team can easily key on him to limit his effectiveness. I still believe that we've played our best football this season (especially since the break) without him, although I'm sure many will disagree.

I don't disagree but with the right players, I believe we can play even better even with him on the field. Ze is exceptional but one thing I notice even when he plays well, he doesn't offer the killer ball offensively. That is why I would use him as a utility player next season for added depth and super-sub, starting Schweinsteiger in the middle. Obviously you would need a super ROM for this to work, Schweini offers final balls and passes to the ROM and LOM which is Ribery, along with a DM (Tymo) who is not a dumbass and has a passing game as well as being better than our current DM defensively.

Personally I think our best game this season was the destruction of Stuttgart 4-1, having Schweini in that form in the middle and a ROM all playing as the front 3 ahead of Tymo would be brutal vs opposing teams.

I think he's a bit on the short side, but it works for Lahm so why not? He could probably make more money @ Bayern!

We have enough money that we shouldn't have to sell Ribery for us to start filling in gaps at our weaker positions. We should keep Ribery and build whith him on the team.

    1. We'll keep arguably our best player.
    2. If we bring in talent around him it'll give him more incentive to stay.

I think it's hilarious that some of you truly believe Ribery is going to stay past the end of this contract.

He's headed for bigger and better things. Just like Ballack.

The question will be if Bayern is going to be smart enough to cash in this time.

If we built the team and kept Ribery on it maybe he wouldn't have to leave for bigger and better things.

And yeah Ballack left for bigger and better things at Chelsea, but it hasn't really worked out for him so far.

I don't find it hilarious at all. The most likely situation is Ribery leaves, but him staying is not out of the question.

'Bigger and better' is subjective to time. Sure, at this point there might be a lot of clubs bigger and better than Bayern. I don't want to sound like a fan-boy but who knows if in a couple years we might be perennial CL contenders ala Liverpool.

I have said this a while ago, Liverpool won with their worst team in 4-5 years. They haven't won once since then, they didn't even make the semi-final this season even though they have the best team in 4-5 years. Having the best teams doesn't always = winning the CL.

All I can say is I cannot wait for the summer and there better be some serious action taking place!
