While I'm not going to post up averages and such like Andy_B does for MLS, I'm going to post USL attendances in this thread throughout the season. Anybody is welcome to post as well. This is just a place for USL attendance reporting and discussion... I'll cover USL1, USL2 and any PDL attendance I can come up with that is over 500.

    This last weeks attendance:

    USL-1

    Vancouver: 5037
    Carolina: 2927

Pretty much on par for Vancouver and a tad low for Carolina. Though not too low. I'm excited for next week. Austin has it's home opener and Miami FC has their first match since their big season ticket drive, hopefully that'll push things up.

I'll try and be the USL's andy_b and see how long I can keep it up. But, unless I get some time I *won't* go so far as to comparing to previous years.

    Code:
    Year	Average	Median	%<2K	%>10k
    2009	3982	3982	0	0

If I have Median right, its the middle attendance if you list all the attendances in order. So, since there were two games, there's no 'middle' one. I'll have to do some research and see how Median is defined with even numbers.

I've picked the <1000 and >10,000 numbers out of my ass. That will probably be refined as the season goes along, and we discuss.

...oh, and I'm going to have to limit my work to just USL-1. USL-2 ...maybe, but certainly not PDL. I collected some of that data for last year, but there were so many gaps in it, it was pretty much useless and pointless.

edit: Thanks for the <2K suggestion. Easy enough to implement this time:)
edit: Added the median. Turns out its the average of the middle two numbers... and with only two numbers, the mean and median are the same thing.:)

    GREAT!

I'd say <2,000 would be better. Basically round about the high end of USL-2 and low end of USL-1, similar to 10k being round about the high end of USL-1.

Think of it this way... Only a couple clubs did under 2k last season... I think Atlanta, Miami and I think even PR did it once. Kind of bad news but also uncommon and every stadium is above that for capacity. 10k is high end (like 1 club will exceed that almost every time and another 2 will likely do it a couple times during the season). Last year I think Montreal did 10k> every match (maybe missing the mark once, I can't remember) and I believe Portland did it 3 times. Rochester came up short all season, but it's similar to MLS prior to TFC coming along.

so 2k? 1k we may see NONE this season because Miami has over 1k season tickets.

    Repped

Also, I think PDL is impossible. Many PDL clubs don't even report their attendance and many of them just estimate. Besides the average is usually right around 350 every year for the league with the high end being around 3,500 for Des Moines and Fresno with the low end at about 50.

I'll also say that I'm unlikely to post my posts as soon as the weekend is done like Andy_B does. So don't be surprised if, for example, I don't post next weeks until after the Tuesday night game next week. But I will try and be consistent and define the week to end on Sunday night.

You find the mean of the middle two. In this case it's the same as the "average".

I wonder how quickly this will devolve into a 'turnstile count/butts-in-seats/inflated attendances' bitch fest like the MLS ones do.:)

...which is one other reason examining PDL attendances is pointless.

Ah, yes examining PDL att. avg and such is pointless, BUT it's nice to see the numbers. There are around 7-10 PDL matches every week that end up above 500. Usually from the same 10-15 clubs. I'm still planning on posting PDL numbers, just for fun. It's always cool to see Fresno and Des Moines numbers rape the entire USL-2 and the bottom half of USL-1 every time they play.

as for the turnstile count/BIS/inflated numbers go... established bitchfest is that Montreal and Minnesota are loaded with very cheap season and single-game tickets for the kiddos. They don't even hide this fact. Miami is almost certainly inflating their numbers as you can watch their match, see an announced of 1,200 and be able to count the number of people in the stands individually. I'd say the # you see in Portland, Rochester, Carolina, Charleston, Minnesota and Puerto Rico are all representative of the ACTUAL number of people that are in the stadium watching the match, free discounted or full price. Montreal is close, but there have been an obvious lack of about 1,000 people for a "sell out". Still, no doubting the Montreal attendance is the best in the league even discounting the inflation.

No idea about Cleveland and Austin Obviously, and Violet Crown, you deserved rep, I didn't need to wait. If you did ********-all for the rest of the year I'd stand by it.

If anybody could help me fill this in, I'd be grateful. I'm missing info for Single-Game tix for Miami, Montreal and Puerto Rico

    Prices (Adult):

    Season Tickets:

    Austin - 290/240
    Carolina - 240/165/90
    Charleston - 180/150
    Cleveland - 145
    Miami - 200
    Minnesota - 375/225/195/185/150/65
Montreal - 1250/1004/647/401/319/299/225/197/139 (converted to US dollars)
    Portland - 330/240/180/150
    Puerto Rico - 225/185
    Rochester - 250/225/215/150/99
Vancouver - 425/331/283/202 (converted to US dollars)

    Single-Game Tickets:

    Austin - 22/18
    Carolina - 20/15/10
    Charleston - 15/12/10/8
    Cleveland - 15
    Miami - ??
    Minnesota - 28/17/15/12/5
    Montreal - ??
    Portland - 29/20/16/12
    Puerto Rico - 20/10
    Rochester - 20/18/15/12/10
Vancouver - 28/23/19/15 (converted to US dollars)

From this info, here are some facts...

Highest single game tickets (that I could find): Portland
Lowest single game tickets (that I could find): Minnesota
    Highest season tickets: Montreal
    Lowest season tickets: Minnesota
Highest worst seat season tickets: Vancouver
Lowest best seat season tickets: Cleveland
Highest worst seat single game tickets (that I could find): Austin
Lowest best seat single game tickets (that I could find): Charleston/Cleveland

I'm sure most of this changes with the 3 single game missing pieces being considered.

Where can i find reliable USL 1 and 2 attendance? I've put together a spread sheet that tracks attendance by team for each game in MLS, USL 1, and USL 2. MLS attendance is easy to find, USL seems a bit trickier.

On USLsoccer.com on the front of the main page (not the entry page) is an area called "scoreboard" and if you click on the games you can see the attendance for all USL-1, almost all USL-2 (like 1 match went unreported last season I believe) and about 50% of PDL.

Thanks, it's been added, now for Montreal and Miami!

On another note, USL-2 kicks off this Friday night. I think the match is in Pittsburgh.

Oh god, I wish! I have ballpark figures for 2 clubs and even they could be hundreds or thousands off. Vancouver, Portland and Montreal are likely to have high season ticket sales. Couldn't tell you much more than that.

As of last week the Impact had sold 4000 season tickets. Last year they had 5000 or so.
