Let's Do This and Shock the World!

Hoping for a fully fit Gerrard ready to go.

Wouldn't mind seeing him swing out on the right to pull Essien away from the middle of the pitch. Either that or someone tell him that Essien was smirking at him........

I think Agger needs to start to just to give us any attacking prowess from the CB's.

    And Welcome back Masch!

"The difference between the impossible and the possible lies in a man's determination."

I don't know what Rafa is going to do. I don't know what he is going to say to motivate the players, and I don't know how he is going to set the formation and personnel.

I would like him to come out strong.

    Reina
    Arbeloa - Carragher - Agger - Aurelio
    Mascherano
    Alonso - Gerrard
    Kuyt - - Torres - - Babel

    No prediction.

    Come on you Reds!!!

Exact same line-up I was envisioning. Hope it happens.

As much as I would like to see Agger there, I'm pretty damn sure we'll see Skrtel.

We need goals, Skrtel was not playing well, Agger played against Blackburn and you are 100% sure we'll see Skrtel again?

Im fairly sure if we need goals, that Agger is the better bet. We dont need to go to Stamford Bridge and defend.

With Gerrard, Xabi and Masch against Essien, Ballack and Lampard...Agger will have tons of space to run into as those three Chelsea players try and man-mark our three players. There couldnt be a better suited game for Agger's skills.

It means that we will have three players in the middle of the park (Alonso, Masch and Agger) who can pass the ball around with ease.

    Re: Chelski v. Liverpool - UEFA CL Quaterfinal Leg 2 - Tuesday - April 14 [R]

Let me explain my pick of a starting lineup.

First off, in defense. Arbeloa is the only right back we have, so that is a no-brainer. Insua played well against Blackburn, but I still think we go with Aurelio, mainly because of the experience. In the central of defense we go with Carragher and Agger. Agger provides better attacking abilities, both in open play and on set pieces. It's that simple. If we were defending a 1-0 lead or we were tied 1-1, then yes Skrtel would start, but in this circumstance we must go with Agger.

In the midfield it's fairly obvious. We go with the terrific trio of Mascherano, Alonso, and a hopefully fit/rested Gerrard.

In attack we go with three strikers: Kuyt, Torres, and Babel. Riera has done really well this season, and he did well against Blackburn. However, in the first match against Chelsea, it showed he didn't have the pace to get in behind the defense. Even though Riera is more balanced in overall skills, we need to score goals, and Babel has good pace and a decent shot, plus he cuts inside more than Riera. I would also pick Kuyt over Benayoun, because Kuyt is more of a direct player, more of a striker than Benayon.

Basically the tactics for this match are: WE NEED GOALS.

Insua isnt in the CL squad so I dont think he's an option.

Like I said, even I want to see Agger there for all the reasons you mentioned, but the thing is, I'm pretty sure Skrtel will be starting.

I know Insua won't start but after Aurelio's performance will he be down on confidence, I want Insua but I think Rafa will go Dossena?

Insua is not registered for the Champions League so it will be either Aurelio or Dossena. Given their relative performances so far this season, I'd say Aurelio. Any case, he couldn't possibly have two bad performnces in a row, could he?

    Reina
    Arbs--Carra--Agger--Aurelio
    Masch--Alonso
    Kuyt--Gerrard--Babel
    Torres

    Subs -

Benny, El Zhar, Riera, Cavs, Skrt, Spearing.

Depending on the flow of the game (i.e. scoreline) - I expect Rafa to start throwing subs on starting from 55' starting with Benny.

The drawback of putting Babel in the starting lineup is that it leaves the bench with out much in the way of game changers/firepower. That said - hopefully Babel can bring something from the get go if he is starting.

    5-0 to the good.

I'm actually quite relaxed about this game.

On one hand, if we fail to go through it won't really surprised me much. If we do go through it will have to be an incredible performance and result.

I think we'll score goals in this one, we just have to prevent Chelsea from doing the same.

    Bingo!

We can play as open as possible and attack, attack, attack. But if we allow more than one goal, it's game, set, match.

i have mixed feelings about this. I want Lpool to go through, but I just don't see a good chance of that happening. I expect to see a Liverpool win, but whether or not it is enough to go through is what i'm worried about.

    kuyt... xabi... riera
    yossi... SG... babel
    torres... ngog

    that's right, the ol' 1-1-3-3-2...

in all seriousness, if bolton can score three at the bridge, we can...

    That's what you think now.

Once (if) the first two goals get in, you'll start feeling it.

I'm not worried about the game. I'm worried about how my nerves will manage if we start scoring. :)

    I sure hope you're right.

I just can't help the cynicism given such a difficult mountain to climb.

    I guess I gotta BELIEVE!
