A bit of a different direction here for history. I am curious as to how records of the ancients here on Earth, including text from India, the Old Testament, and other records as to how viable or even realistic it is that we have been visited by Aliens from the start of our race?

I for one do not know the answer, but I think there is merit to think that it is possible.

What I am interested in, and the purpose of this thread, is to hear from those of you here who know more about history then I and can either debunk some of the claims, or perhaps shed some light on this topic.

And a quick counter to the above

I read the book years ago.

His findings are very interesting, and my curiosity is how applicable or accurate are his findings? That coupled with what the History Channel Documentry showed raises questions about the possiblity of early visitation on this planet.

There certainly seems to be tangible evidence that there has been.

Yes, aliens came here 4500 years ago, goofed around for awhile, stole a few horses, then got bored and decided to camp underneath the sea in the Bermuda triangle and suck down a boat every now and then for amusement.

Those zany aliens, travelling light years across space just to play some practical jokes on us rubes.

I think von Daniken has been as discredited as his 70s buddy Uri Geller. Have you noticed that History channel is all Bibles and Bigfoots? How they can present such a parade of paranormality as history is a History Mystery.

Just a word of warning, Erich von Daniken is very anti-Christian. His book has morphed into the ancient civilization, ancient aliens basis but that is simply the conclustion to his initial thought. That God is a phony.

Now I'm not here to say one way or the other in regards to religion, thats up to each person, but thats von Daniken's M.O., he hates religion and is publishing his "findings" more to discredit religion than to boost the ancient alients theory.

In fact I would say Erich von Daniken has become exactly what he says he hates the most, a preacher who pushes religion, only von Daniken has become the one of the most evangilistic anti-religion types out there, maybe a step below Richard Dawkins who is truly sermonizing but EvD has a agenda.

You are right about the history channel too, it has taken on a much more cryptozological and etheral feel to it. I noticed it awhile ago. I actually kind of like it but that is a fair point. Now that they are merged with Discovery and the Science Channel I think it is getting the "Weird stuff" so to speak.

As it turns out, that was the "golden age" of the History Channel.

If I were given access to interstellar vehicles and knowledge of planets with intelligent life but simple technology, pulling pranks and stunts on aliens are about all I would spend my time on. I should never be trusted with real power. At all.

    I'm currently reading this book:

Really intriguing read. btw. Definetely recommend it. This fella goes into ancient scriptures and myths and even scriptures that didn't make it in the bible (I cannot possibly wonder why they never allowed them in ;) . )

What has this got to do with your question?

Well, every single corner of the world there is ancient myths of dragons. Which has always intrigued me.

The early gnostics believed that Adam was created as a mate for a female serpent and that their gods were mortal. The African Zulu shamans believed that inter-dimensional beings ruled the world and when they appeared in this dimension they would look "serpent like". And afterall, nearly every single established religion in this world descends from ancient Iraq. And of course the ancient Iraqis (Sumerians) believed that winged-serpents came from the skies and established civilization near the Tigris and Euphrates rivers.

But obviously if you ever think that things like this could possibly be true, you are a crazy person. Which makes me think of this quote by someone

"There is a principle which is a bar against all information, which is proof against all argument, and which cannot fail to keep a man in everlasting ignorance. That principle is condemnation before investigation."

So after investigating this possibility for years Scarecrow. I think there is merit to think that it is possible that we have been visited by aliens. Although it is important to remain skeptical. :D

On a similar vein, I did like a theory once expanded upon by a sci-fi writer (Brin I think) about aliens visiting earth.

Well, you know how modern cruise ships dump a week's worth of human excrement into foreign waters when they visit somewhere?

Brin wondered if alien visitors to a fairly barren earth dumped their port-a-potty on earth, which introduced complex amino acids and the rudiments of life to the earth. And it happened around the time of the Cambrian explosion, where there was a step-change in the complexity and diversity of biology on earth, which eventually led to the evolution of higher life forms.

I'm sure the folks who hate the idea of being descended from apes would just love that.

DJPoopypants suggesting that we are descended from poop. You should get together with Steamer some time.

Lots of ancient heiroglyphics that have strange depictions on them and such..pretty interesting stuff.

Anyways, heres an upcoming movie that might have some sort of "ancient alien" component to it..and it has the added bonus of staring a good piece of eye candy by the name of Milla Jovoich

I'm almost done with "Fingerprints of the Gods" by Graham Hancock, and although at the end of every chapter he expresses his theories, the facts the book notes are astounding and undeniable. you don't have to accept his theories, but the facts make you ponder if anything

Any idea what farmers use to fertilize their fields with, producing all the grain, fruits and vegetables you eat?

BTW, do you know how a farmer's dog marks his/her property?

I for one am willing to consider that in a universe as vast and as old as ours that it is possible, even likely that we have been visited and still are being visited.

It wasn't all that long ago that flight was considered to be impossible, then the sound barrier was supposed to be impossible to break, it is only a matter of time before we break another barrier.

I'm sure there's life out there, but the nature of the universe makes visitation impossible.
Just because some impossible things were done does not mean all impossible things are possible. There are different levels of impossible, and clearly while flight would be difficult without light engines, it was not out of the question. Birds and insects do it. And an airplanes that went the speed of sound in level flight was also an engineering challenge, but man-made things (like bullets) went much faster for centuries. There have even been cases of fighters in WWII going that fast in a dive.

Going faster than light is impossible impossible. It is the 100% pure concentrated form of impossible.

I am just not convinced that it is impossible to go faster then light. We have such a rudimentary understanding of science that I am not willing to accept that we know enough to claim anything as impossible. Our understanding of science grows daily, and there are numerous examples of us finding things thought to be impossible that exist in space or are created around us.

Who knows, perhaps someday will find out an answer. :)

If you are looking for an interesting read try:

"the 12th planet" by zecharia sitchin.

It's very well researched and was written in the 70's. If I'm not mistaken they are 8 books. Also look into his latest, called the "lost book of enki".

If you are looking for something more recent but equally interesting try watching this guys videos:

Science isn't like that. Just because there are lots of open questions and everything is, at least on a philosophical level, open to falsification, it does not mean everything is equally suspect and you can just pick and chose what you want to believe in. The speed of light is a fundamental part of our understanding of modern physics, and not only can we detect and measure the relativistic effects that make going the speed of light absurd, they are a useful part of modern technology such as the GPS system.
That someday was a century ago.
