There's a new, and interesting, spin-off of screenwipe called Newswipe. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newswipe_with_Charlie_Brooker I've watched the first few episode's and it's a bit hit and miss but pretty funny and thought-provoking. Here's a flavour of what to expect if it becomes available in the US. This particular bit includes a short film by Adam Curtis. Following on from the enormous popularity this thread received last time I just thought I'd mention there's a new, (2nd), series of it. It's similar to The Daily Show in that it examines the news 'meeja' and how it works. S2 Ep 1 Part 1 [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2iVAZKreer8"]YouTube- Charlie Brooker's Newswipe S2E1P1[/ame] Part 2 [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AA2VeSjA45U"]YouTube- Charlie Brooker's Newswipe S2E1P2[/ame] Part 3 has an American poet called Doug Stanhope [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fkDNQm-63HY"]YouTube- Charlie Brooker's Newswipe S2E1P3[/ame] Anyway, take a look if you like that sort of thing. It might be easier to understand if you've watched British television or printed news but it makes some interesting points anyway.
This is part of this weeks episode... BTW, I'd just like to mention how appalled I am by the fact that this show is now listed on http://eztv.it where it can be downloaded by anyone with torrenting software. Clearly, anyone doing that would be totally lacking in any kind of moral centre as such actions are completely beyond the pale as far as I'm concerned.
An interesting film by Richard Curtis in this weeks episode... [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f2o7y_b04YE"]YouTube- Doug Stanhope on climate change coverage and overpopulation [Newswipe S2E4][/ame] "You could drive a fleet of hummers to and from work, hanging your arse out the window and farting styrofoam packing peanuts into the atmosphere and still not cause a fraction of the damage that one stupid baby causes to this planet" Well, it's an opinion. There's no denying that!
