It's a competition that's been rendered completely meaningless and it would have been nothing but a tiresome distraction from what our real goals need to be right now: getting it together for the regular season to restore an ounce of respectability and make the playoffs. I mean, the lack of traffic on this board is an indication at how the hard core galaxy fans are so turned off by the team right now, and the last thing we need is to get bogged down by bullshit US open play, especially with all the BS beckham friendlies that will soon be scheduled the closer his arrival comes.

I think going on to Concacaf Champions Cup is pretty important actually.

    Edit: League not Cup

This was our best shot at hardware and a ticket to CONCACAF Champions League. So i heartily disagree.

I'm in the camp that wanted us to push hard for the USOC, even if it hurt us a game or two in the season.

i'm also part of the "it's the only cup we're going to win crowd", and let's face it after that there's nothing to look forward to until next season at best. it's not exactly like the roster is one we have to be patient with because it's a two-three year plan; it's the same "we need to win now so let's get all these 'experienced' players i used to work with and who used to be good in to the team." even more depressing - unless tim is removed from the situation our next coach is going to be just as useless.

You actually want to see this team go down to Mexico and lose by 10 goals?

Best thing is that we won't burn another "bonus game" in our season ticket package for the next round of the US Open Cup.

Count me in the "We have absolutely no chance of coming anywhere near close to doing well in the playoffs, and the Open Cup was basically our only hope of getting aything at all out of this season, besides $1 hot dogs for one game."

CONCACAF Champions League? CONCACAF CHAMPIONS LEAGUE?? Do I have to get out the Jim Mora clip?

I completely approve of what Arena did. We're not making the playoffs this year. We very well might not make the playoffs next year. As far as I'm concerned, we're in the preseason for next year right now and this was a scrimmage to give some of our younger players some time.

DeLaGarza and Marshall got quality minutes and seemed to do OK. Gonzalez got some time out of position which is probably useful. Patterson and Bowen didn't do so much with their minutes but that's something we learned too.

It wasn't a fun day for anyone involved but it served its purpose.

bowen was a revelation out there. and i don't mean in a good way. undoubtedly he can and will develop, but as far as right now.... not even close.

all you had to do was look at the starting lineup to see how seriously we were taking this game. we played awful and i agree with most of the negative posts here about what happened, but as they were calling out the starting lineup, i knew this was going to be nothing more than an experimental game to trot out some non first teamers and play some of the others in different roles.

Hey, we're not in a bunch of weird competitions this year so we don't have a crowded fixture list at all, so the USOC should have been a good competition for us. It's always a good opportunity for some of the young players to get time in real games. Quite disappointed that we got dumped out, particularly in the manner that we did, with lots of chances to move on.

I came to this realization last night when I was one of the few around me who didn't stand up or get excited every time we almost scored. I just kind of became Bruce Arena like and just sat there and watched most of the game. Didn't say much, didn't do much....just sat there and absorbed the outcome as it were. I've got a very "It is what it is" attitude toward this season. :(

Last year at this time we were talking sexy football and high flying bwhd's..... what the f happended. The off-season with the captain off the coup didnt help and identity issues have arisen for sure but its early and we just need that first WIN.

But .... This team has heart and bleeds galaxy blood. Lets hope when we field the complete team we can capture the magic and make a run for the playoffs. Yes, I said Playoffs!:p

And a lot of them did get in some time, it just happens that they didn't do much with that time.

Not an important competition in any way.

I'm not heartbroken about getting dumped out of the USOC. This used to be a really fun competition for us, but we're just so far out of it as a team, I want to concentrate on league. So I guess I agree with the premise - maybe not the best thing to happen to us, but it's not bad, either.

    agreed

The cynical side of me thinks that was also last years plan, to eat up 08 Bonus tickets

I was talking to FO and listening to their lines about bonus games, until I reminded them about last years bonus games.

The best thing that happened to us this season is that US soccer does not have relegation.

It might be nice to be relegated - we'd get to play against teams more on our level!

It would be interesting if we were relegated, because then how would the British press refer to the league we were in? If you are relegated from a pub league, where do you go from there?

If we had relegation, the relegated teams would immediately fold. This is why relegation won't work in this country.

US open is an embarassing competition that no-one cares about besides some big soccer buffs. It shows in the stands. And did anyone think we really had a chance to win? It's better to go out now rather than a couple rounds from now getting eliminated by some USL team.
