I remember reading on one of the other team boards that they saw their teams jerseys at the local TJ Maxx/Marshalls, so I went ahead and checked myself. Oddly enough, at the TJ Maxx on Diversey and Broadway did have a few items and I was quite impressed. Especially after you go to some of the big sponsor stores, such as Dicks Sporting Goods, and other places that carry addidas products that do NOT have any MLS gear, it was surprising to see items at this one. Here's a list of things they had if you guys are interested (and prices if I remembered correctly.) Kid sized LA Galaxy jersey with no name/number - $5? Kid sized Chicago Fire t shirt jersey - $5? There was also a Mens Chicago Fire windbreaker with pants, but I'm not sure if their priced together or separately. All I saw on the tag was $25. They also had the MLS soccer balls. Not sure on the price. I'm def. going back for some of this. Like always at TJ Maxx and Marshalls, they have great discounted prices so I hope your all able to go out and buy some gear for your kids and yourselves!
The windbreaker/pants combo is in XS size. The most jersey's of any store is the TJ Maxx on Fullerton, plenty of home and away.
This has been going on for a few weeks now. I traded a XL 2-piece training kit for a L sized LS Home jersey tonight, bought an XL LS Away jersey, and some L and XL short sleeve jerseys Home and Away, along with some L gray training jerseys. I have 1 L training jersey left. It's not just Chicagoland, either. The Marshall's in Peru, IL and the TJ Maxx in Dekalb have tons of stuff, especially for kids. The Galaxy jerseys even have Beckham's name and number on the back. I haven't seen anything for the Fire with any names or numbers on the back, which is actually what I prefer when I am looking for jerseys.
Unless they got an update in, the only jackets left were 2XS (which i didn't know existed quite honestly). The jacket actually will fit someone of smaller stature (works for me at 5'7", 140 lbs), but the accompanying pants wouldnt fit an average 10 year old. But still, only $25! [This is regarding the Marshall's at Belmont/Diversey]
I stopped in at TJMaxx during my lunchbreak (in Countryside)...they had a great selection from small to XL...I found one practice jersey that was grey and red in XXL...(the only thing in XXL) I wanted to buy it but the problem was the line for the checkout was similar to that of Six Flags in July...and all ladies...and no cuts.
I went to TJ Max on Fullerton today and got the last XL men's long sleeve home jersey, but there were a bunch of L, M, S of both styles. Mine was $30. Tshirts were there too.
Well, if you mean the one that I went to...it's on Plainfield, where Plainfield and 55th st intersect in Countryside/LaGrange/Lagrange Highlands. You can't miss it. If you mean the other ones...I don't know.
TJ Maxx and Marshalls are part of the same corporation. So they have a lot of similar items. In Chicago, there's a TJM across the street from a Marshalls on Fullerton, about 1800 west. If anyone wants a little side money-maker: The Fire tracksuit combo is being hawked on ebay for $99. And sold at TJM/M for $29. That's $70 to the tallboy fund right there. The key is to pick up out-of-place gear: a DCU jersey in Chicago may go for $10, but online someone is willing to pay $30-50.
The TJ Maxx on Fullerton is at Damen, in that strip mall thing over there. There is also one right off Diversey at the six corners with Broadway and Clark. It's in the Century shopping mall or whatever it's called with the theatre in it...
Just picked up the last Small LS Home at the Fullerton TJ Maxx. There is still a few of any combo(Home/Away, LS/SS) left, so if you want one, hustle.
Oak Brook Terrace (south side of 22nd between Midwest Road and Rte 83) has four jerseys, three medium, one extra large. All current red home jersey. All $25.
The one in Crest Hill had some home jerseys, and a lot of away ones for $25, so hubby and I each got an away...
Less "supporting the cause", more "clearing suppliers' unsaleable inventory". Either way, we benefit.
For sure. None of the Dick's Sporting Goods have any MLS gear now so this stuff must all be from them. I got a jersey at the Marshalls on Irving and Cicero and a grey training jersey at TJMaxx on Irving and Narragansant about a week ago. They also had Rapids stuff.
If anyone is interested in getting something in XXL for me, that would be awesome. Home jersey especially. Paypal can go down.
Agreed. But this should be instructive to MLS -- should be but won't be. Remember early in the life of MLS when the two Newcastle chairmen got busted making fun of their own supporters for paying 80 bucks for a shirt that cost them 10? I can recall back then saying that MLS would be better served coming up with a reasonable pricing structure for everything, including gear. Yes, the going rate for a good soccer shirt around the world was 60-80 bucks several years ago. MLS should have realized that they were not of the status of the teams getting that much. I argued then that they should price their stuff to move. They had a decent sized crowd out there willing to PAY THEM to get shirts, hats, coats etc., with their name and logo on them. We were willing to PAY to advertise for the team. So, this is just concrete proof that at $70 the shirt won't sell. At $25 they fly off the shelves.
