Well, yeah, I was talking about the financial risk. Ten years ago, HGH injections were still pretty new, especially in Argentina, and I don't think it was all that clear that it would help turn him into a $250 million property. As to wether Diego grew up in Buenos Aires, you decide. His parents were from Corrientes province, which is still pretty remote outside Rosario. He was born in Lanus, a southern outlier of Buenos Aires D.F. and grew up in the even more outlying Villa Fiorito. Here's what Villa Fiorito looks like today: [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b2fu101mlmk"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b2fu101mlmk[/ame] Whether that is city slum or outlying province I'll let others decide. 40 years ago it would have been less developed. The region around Buenos Aires city has about doubled in the last 40 years. It is NOT in Buenos Aires D.F., but in Lomas de Zamora Partido of Buenos Aires Province. It's the Pampas. Here's what wikipedia says about Lomas de Zamoras district: Records show his first club as Estrella Roja (red star) in Villa Fiorita. He was sold to Argentinos Juniors and played for their youth team which was nicknamed Los Cebollitas (the little Onions) a not very polite celebration of their youth and toughness.
Where does that estimate come from (highlight)? Is that Barca's asking price, or did it come from Football Manager?
I had this game on live tracker but never heard who scored the goals? Do you know Smashfoot?, US soccer site has not updated it
My source said Casey Short scored on a nice individual effort, beating about 3 people with a minute remaining.
TRANSLATION (poor but free) The American ones did not abdicate for as much and see their rewarded efforts on the one of their last timeliness. The attack Zakiya Bywaters took advantage of a misunderstanding of the three-colored defense to swipe the ball and spin alone to the goal before cheating dish of the foot the last three-colored wall.
Per US Soccer (finally!) the goal was scored by Casey Short. http://www.ussoccer.com/articles/viewArticle.jsp_13303811.html
Smashfoot, what does your source say about our struggles today? Just lack of time together for the girls to form good cohesiveness?
Integrating the new players has been a bit of a struggle I think, but that is what games like this are for more than a year in advance of the WC. On the 1st goal reportedly our defender was covering attacker #1, but then a 2nd attacker knocked defender down and attacker #1 was left in front of goal with ball. 2nd goal they sprung a player loose behind the defense.
This is an almost completely new and very young team. Here is where we should not focus on the score but rather focus on what the new players are learning. Remember all those posts about worrying too much, with young players, about winning and losing and not worrying enough about teaching them to play properly for the long run?
Yeah a time for buliding plus a few players (who you imagine will be at 2010 WC) were missing from the squad such as Brooks, Verloo and Roberts.
from US Soccer Wire: U.S. UNDER-20 WOMEN’S NATIONAL TEAM COMES TO THE HDC FOR TRAINING CAMP: U.S. Under-20 Women’s National Team head coach Jillian Ellis will bring 24 players to a training camp at The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif., from April 25-May 3. Ellis has called in eight players who are currently freshman in college while the remaining 16 are still in high school. Re: from US Soccer Wire: Damn, looks like the FSU trio along with most of the team that made the trip to Germany were not up to snuff.
Re: from US Soccer Wire: New blood. It looks like a lot of those players aren't even in the 2009 player pool. The three FSU players are : A) born in 1990 (old ladies) 2) not potential UCLA recruits Sorry , CH
Re: from US Soccer Wire: Not just McCarty, Pressley and Short but every girl that went to Germany, save 3 I think are not in this camp. You lost me on UCLA?
Re: from US Soccer Wire: just a mild little jab. Several of the people listed are being courted by UCLA according to my sources. After the recent complaints about coaches using the Youth teams as an unfair recruiting edge, I thought I'd point out this case. I see the turnover as a move to see more players in the youth levels. Pia has stated she wants a larger pool to pick from for the next WC cycle. The only way to do that is to get more players involved. Keeping a couple of players makes sense for continuity. I believe a couple of them were team captains the last time around.
Re: from US Soccer Wire: I see Ellis is up to some thievery and trickery once again, poaching the 'nova keeper. Hasn't played in two years? Is that because of transfer rules? Whatthehell, let me use the youth national team setup to blood my rusty new keeper. And let me reward my prized 2010 recruit with a U20 call-up, forget the frigging U18s, now those are real amateurs. Surprised she didn't call up her entire 2009 incoming class. Bloody good show Jillian. Whatever works.
