Scored a goal (his first) against VfL Oldenburg:

Mit seinem ersten Tor im rot-weißen Dress hat der US-Jugendnationalspieler Parker Walsh die A-Juniorenfußballer des SV Eichede beim 2:1 (1:0) gegen den VfL Oldenburg auf die Siegerstraße geschossen.

He's with the club's top youth team. Can't link directly to the roster page, but here's a pic:

The club's a team is in the Verbandsliga Süd-Ost for 08/09.

    He has some YNT experience:

    He's a late '91 from Virginia.

Here's a feature from last summer:

Note to avoid confusion: the club's youth team plays Regionalliga, the first team plays Verbandsliga.

That's correct. Hopefully Parker Walsh won't suffer the same tragic fate.

So, the youth team is in a higher division than the first team?

Yes. Of course youth teams play in a seperate league pyramid (or pyramids, there's one for every age group, actually). There is no direct relation between where the individual teams of a club play, as there's a normal promotion and relegation system for youth teams as well. In youth football Regionalliga is the second highest level, btw, as there is no 2. Bundesliga.

That's how Germany works -- each team with a club participates at its own level and can go up/down separately from the parent club. (But I've never fully understood: If a U17 gets promoted, does it get promoted as a U18/19 club for the next season or does just the U17 "program" move up? Does that question even make sense?)

Re: Parker Walsh at SV Eichede (Germany)

Makes sense to me ;). And no, that's not how it works - the U-17 only would get promoted, although most of the players wouldn't be at the team next season to play in the higher division as they move to the next age group. The pyramids at all age groups are seperate from each other as well.

The league pyramids aren't identical at all age groups, so it wouldn't be possible even - a national pyramid only exists at the U-18/19 and U-17 level (=A-Youth and B-Youth). C-Youth only goes up to Regionalliga, lower age groups stop at state leagues, or even on city level for the really young kids.

This system, I may add, is new in Germany. I believe it is less than five years old. Before that it was just a regional system.

Re: Parker Walsh at SV Eichede (Germany)

Yes - 2004 I think. Then a Bundesliga was introduced for the U-19 and U-17 teams (where the Regionalliga was the highest level before) and a Regionalliga for the U-16 teams was introduced as well. Although U-19 and U-17 teams already had a national championship play-off before (which U-16 teams never had, and still don't have).

But the current youth Bundesligas are still somewhat regional - they are divided into three regional groups of 14 teams each, still with a play-off at the end of the season.

This guy is amazing. I'm from Virginia and my high school and his high school are in the same region. Glad to see him in Europe. His former club team, the Roanoke Stars are damn good. They have a lot of good players from Roanoke and there are a lot outside of Roanoke as well.

I've coached against Parker...he's legit. Cannon for a left foot, good pace. Has a big future as an attacking left back, a rare commodity within US Soccer circles. Hope he lands the contract and stays in Germany (don't want to see him beat up on my Hokies--his brother actually played for Virginia Tech).

That's really a great step ahead. Youth Regionalliga like at Eichede is nice, but not the place where you become pro. You have to catch the eye of the scouts of the pro clubs' youth academies; that's what he did. Karlsruhe is not the place it once was when they produced players like Oliver Kahn or Mehmet Scholl, but still a good opportunity to get a chance in the Bundesliga. Lars Stindl, Sebastian Freis, Christian Eichner and Daniel Brosinski are the most recent Karlsruhe youth players who made it to the Bundesliga.

It says Junioren-Bundesliga which I assume is the U-19 side.

good for him anyway. If you can get minutes at that level, you at least have a shot at being a decent professional.

Walsh is in Holland right now playing with be U-20s, but his affiliation is with 1860 Munich now, not Karlsruhe

    http://www.ussoccer.com/News/U-20-MNT/2010/05/Rongen-Finalizes-Cor-Groenewegan-Roster.aspx

Edit: It looks like it's a mistake, since it mentions him being at Karlsruhe in the intro
