It's DB's first introduction on the roster since rejoining LAG. How will you greet him?

    It's finally official!

    http://la.galaxy.mlsnet.com/news/te...ent_id=222512&vkey=pr_lag&fext=.jsp&team=t106

But please David save us the bullshit!

I'm really grateful to the LA Galaxy and AC Milan for making this dream deal happen," said Beckham. "It allows me to play for AC Milan and the LA Galaxy in the same year, and also to continue my commitment to develop soccer in the United States, which is something I am passionate about. My family is happy and settled and will remain in LA. The perfect result for 2009 would be for me to help Milan to reach the Champions League and for the LA Galaxy to make the playoffs and win the MLS Cup Playoffs."

Now please Galaxy, fill his roster spot with Osman Chavez and not Valentine!

hmmm..I don't think this is a 100% good news, both for LAG and Beckham himself. LAG players will already have found playing chemistry at the time, and Beckham himself would wore himself out if he starts playing from the first game when he gets back.

BUT..the BRILLIANT thing for Bruce to do in the first few games (when he's back), I think, is to bench Becks and subs him in or start him but only for a few minutes (for sure only for the first half)..just to test his fitness..and to allow Bruce, the team and Becks some times to asses of when and where is the right time and place to play him to assure Galaxy a continuance success (assuming that Galaxy is already successful without Becks in the team at the time). Yeah..Bruce should do that. And this is the normal practice too when a player is in the team for the first time after a long absence.

Hope all will be well for Galaxy. They are now on their own as MLS is being really selfish here. They only think about their money, not a bit about the success of the team. They should have just sold Becks already or keep him for the whole year..not half-half. But then again, where was Tim Leiweike in all of this? Being selfish too?

They interviewed a couple of reporters from La Opinion (Spanish newspaper) who went on record to say that DB will NOT have a very welcoming reception from fans when he rejoins the LAG. They claimed that there are numerous fans very angry and are in the process of forming groups to repudiate DB. It appears that this is gaining momentum and steam.

I thought I should share this with you ladies and gentlemen.

Like I said before, unless this deal gets us the $$$ and cap space to sign a new player or two before the season starts (for instance, reboot the Osman Chavez deal) then this really sucks for us as far as on-field performance goes...which is really what most of us care about...

Wow, what a load of steaming crap. How many games is he going to miss because of international duties?

And how passionate and dedicated to growing soccer in the US is he really going to be, once he activates that opt-out clause and returns to AC Milan :rolleyes:

    Go screw, Beckham

A friendly with AC Milan? How uncomfortable. Will Beckham play for both teams? One half with Galaxy and one half with Milan..?

If I'm a Galaxy fan, no way do I show up for this.

Now that Douche Bag is gone is there anyway we can petition to keep him in Italy. And is there any chance we can get our real team colors back again?

The one thing I haven't been able to find is the amount of money involved in the transfer. Just how much money did AC Milan end up paying the Galaxy?

That's exactly what I plan to throw at him when - correct that, if - he shows up at Giants Stadium in July. And I'll be greeting him with banners that say "Your son isn't worthy of the name Brooklyn" and "F.O. out of my country!"

I just hope he doesn't wear the captain's armband when he arrives whenever he's arriving.

Easy there. Please be rational about this when it comes to his children or anyone else's for that matter. Let's NOT bring his children into this.

It's true that we do not like, appreciate the way Becks has handled his situation or the way he has expressed his feelings about the MLS but his children should not pay for his actions.

In the article, Tim said that it's Landon's team and Landon should keep the armband

And wow, 10% off ticket prices...that's....so generous. I suppose it's better than nothing

    AGREE!

    1. DB is nothing but a liar here to fill his pockets
    2. Tim L. falls in the same category.
    3. DB does not need to return to my team, ever!
    4. I will not applaud him when he walks on the pitch.
    5. Bruce, please bench him as a substitute!
    6. I will take the 10% discount on my two season tickets because I deserve it:)
And finally, how much $$$ did this "deal" make the Galaxy and what are they doing with those funds?

ok... just a little different perspective here:

Based on this article and this article:

    1. Becks is with AC Milan until July 16th
    2. AC Milan paid us about $6.32m and Becks himself shelled out "a mountain" of his own money (I'm guessing a comparable amount, based on what LA was asking for).
    3. LA is cutting ticket prices 10%
    4. There will be a friendly with AC Milan on July 19th
    5. His family is staying in LA

The questions that I have are:
    a. What does this do to our salary cap? (Topper already raised this)
    b. Do STH get free tickets to the AC Milan friendly?
    c. What happens after this season?

I think this shows that Becks really wants to play at the highest level he can. He's tired of playing for a crap team, and he wants to play in WC2010. It doesn't seem to me that there is any financial motivation for him to make this deal. He's the big loser when it comes to $$. He's the one who is paying for your 10% cut in ticket cost. Yeah... You can bitch about it being too small, but when was the last time that happened? Never?

I think he really wants to stay in LA long-term, but also really wants to play in the World Cup again. This deal improves his chances of making that happen. If this frees up salary cap space for us, then I think it ends up being a pretty good deal for the Galaxy. If not, I think they are also losers. However, it is not all bad. I think LA will respond to having LD back as captain (assuming that happens), and I think if we can use some of the $$ to bring in a strong central defender, we may even be competetive.

Then again... I've been accused of being a pollyanna in the past :)

He so serious about growing soccer here that he will eventually buy out his contract come November and leave to ACM. Now that's dedication;)

So the circus will be back in town along wit the circus freaks he now loves. Great for LA?! Man, this smells worse than teh pile of crap I am about to make.

I just don't see that really happening at all. Why? Because he is going to want to leave next fall after the MLS season is over, and what better way to do this by buying out his own contract and leaving to ACM permanently. For me, if his desire is to participate in the World Cup, then I would not understand why he would want to jeopardize his chances by stayiing here through an offseason when he can easily just go back to ACM -- and really be fit for the WC.

    Just my two pesos. Enjoy.

Here is what we really "get":

    1. a 33 year old player for half a season, well actually for a quarter of a season as he needs to play for England FIVE times while he is "here"!

    2. a 10% discount on our prepaid season tickets

    3. a coach forced to play a player who's heart is not here at all

    4. and money we can't use till the window opens again half way through the season.

    5. a lot less season tickets sold

    6. watered down beer & cold pizza:)

That and the fact that his family are staying in LA are the reasons that I think he may want to stay in LA long-term. He could have just bought out this last year of his contract and been done with it.

We'll only really know after the MLS season and maybe not until after WC2010. However, I wouldn't be surprised to see him and his family in LA semi-permanently (like Klinsman was) at that point.

One thing that sucks out of this bullsh!t friendly with AC Milan on July 19th is that the july 18th match @ NYRB is rescheduled to July 16th. This means that the G's will have to leave LA on the 12th for New York the day after they play their guts out in a SuperClassico match on July 11th and only have 4 days to recuperate for the NYRB match on the 16th, which is at 3pm! All of this in the heat of the day in the middle of the summer. That's gonna be a fun game........
