Well after that goal he scored in the UEFA cup all of the Everton fans thought quite highly of the lad but I think he has gone down on the pecking order since he appears slow and unmotivated. After watching him come off the bench I haven't seen much creativity which is what a midfielder needs in order to be successful in the priemership. If he gets a start or two I think he could maybe get back to the form he was in at the start of the season and if not then I guess its back to Belgrade. I always thought he looked good in past games but to be honest he hasn't impressed too many people at Goodison as of late.

The last time I saw Castillo play was against England u21, and yeah he looked terrible. He did look slow and couldnt make a pass but I think that has to do with his lack of minutes as a starter.

If castillo doesn't come out now than he's done. What a lucky break for him. It's now or never for segundo. i think he might go to antoher prem league club if it doesn't work out fro him in Everton. One thing I've noticed is for players to linger in the Prem league after they have been there.

    Christian Benitez at Santos Laguna

CONCACAF Champions League 2008-09 Quater Final result:
Montreal Impact (Canada) 2-0 Santos Laguna (Mexico).

    Match Review:

    Match Highlights:

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AfznToN49ko"]YouTube - Impact de Montreal 2-0 Santos Laguna --- Cuartos de final CONCACHAMPIONS --- mier25/feb/09[/ame]

What on earth is going on in CONCACAF? USL side Montreal Impact defeating Santos Laguna of Mexico by two goals to nil in the first leg of the Quarter Finals. You know if this were an MLS side playing against Santos Laguna in this match, the result probably would have been a draw or Santos Laguna win. Those USL sides are certainly dark horses and are much better than we think. On a more positive note for the people of Ecuador, Benitez had a good game on his return from injury, and as can be seen from the highlights above had a couple of good chances on goal which were foiled though by the stubborn Montreal goalkeeper. The 2nd leg should be a good game.

The MLS salary cap means they have to load their squads with crappy players in order to afford one star player like Beckham or Blanco. All the average players are going to USL to make a living, and they're not bad. Mostly, they are big, strong, and fast, which is a big advantage when playing against Mexican teams.

I still think Santos will be able to score at least 2 in Torreon.

I think that the MLS designated player rule allows a team like the Galaxy or Fire to bring in higher profile names and pay them a salary apart from their cap. Because I think the current cap is 2.1 million for the team but Becks makes over that in a year. I think the salaries are separate.

    Haha, great :p
I would be so happy for this upset if it wasn't that 2 Ecuas play there...
But Benitez and Pedrito where one of the few players for Santos that played good. The Argie commentators from fox agreed with that too...
One of the worst ones was Vuoso.....bien hecho por nacionalizarse Mejicano :D

    You are correct about that.

Either way, it's kind of the same thing that happens, even though the DP's are out of the salary cap constraint, the MLS teams still need to get a couple other big names on each team's starting 11. These are guys like Dwayne DeRosario, Jaime Moreno, Shalkyrie Joseph, Christian Gomez, and some of the U.S. national team players that are not DP's but that are too expensive for the USL (even Schellotto is not technically a DP). Paying the salaries for these guys means that the MLS 2nd string players are usually youth developmental players or other specialist, low salary players. The USL teams seem to have more of the experienced players that are a bit too old, but their salaries are medium range, so they get left out for this reason. Look at our compatriot Peter Villegas, he's a prime example - the guy is one of the stars of the PR Islanders, and he was a good player for a while when he was on the MetroStars, but he's not a big name player, and he's past his prime, so he's just not what MLS is looking for.

So I just heard that Marlon de Jesus from El Nacional signed with River Plate on the 19th of Feb. Do you guys know much about him? He might get some playing time when Falcao goes to Arsenal, at least that is what my Colombian friends are saying hahaha, I hope I don't have to bite my tongue

I think he was signed to River's younger divisions to train, if he did well he would join the older squad after a year trial. Anyway, he's a pretty good player that showed great abilities during the Sudamericano....hopefully he does well in Argentina.

thats unfortunate for Borja because he's done well...although he hasn't been in the starting XI every game, when he plays he seems to find the back of the net pretty frequently. what is even more unfortunate is how he has never been able to translate his success at a club level to a national team performance worthy of getting another shot because he's usually nonexistant on the pitch. I don't know whether to fully blame him for this, or maybe the tactics of the team aren't built around using a guy like him as a striker....I really don't know.

Caicedo looks to be starting again today against Aston Villa, because Man City's entire attacking force is injured. At least Caicedo is getting some chances, although it would be great to have Robinho or Bellamy with him to make things happen.

i forgot to post the article but Santos Laguna apparently said they will be dealing Benitez away during the summer....one reaction is WOW! usually Mexican clubs keep their best players closely held but the offer from Wigan which apparently stands at 6 million pounds is a very sizable sum considering what they paid for him....There are offers from France and Germany as well.

The Fake Santos will be selling him because they think that Bentiez will not be the same after this injury. I guarantee, if bentiez scores 15 goal between here and June, Things will change..
