Bayern Munich big slide in Bundesliga continues Bayern Munich's 1-3-2 result in 6 Bundesliga games (1-3-1 in last the last 5) is the worst since L-T-L-T-L-T-L in late 2001. Bayern Munich was averaging 2 points a game through 17 (10-2-5 = 35 points) in late December at the Xmas break. It was on track to earn 2*5 = 10 points in the next 5 games for a total of 45 through 22. That would have put Bayern Munich two points clear of second place Hertha Berlin. It earned only 4 points in those 5 games --- a deficit of 6. Instead of 45 points, it has only 39 points. Bayern Munich is now down to fifth place (39 points in 22 games) to the second and last of the UEFA Cup/Europa Cup slots. Wolfsburg has moved up to fourth (39 with better goal difference). There are two teams within three points (Bayer Leverkusen and Stuttgart) hoping to duke it out with BM for 5th through 7th place. 8th place Schalke (35) and 9th place Borussia Dortmand (34) are now within hailing distance of Bayern Munich given its horrible recent form. Is Bayern Munich moving toward being a midtable team? The next Bundesliga game (there is a midweek DFB Pokal game against Bayer Leverkusen) is at home on Saturday against weak Hannover 96 (hello Steve Cherundolo). Hannover 96's goals against (41) is almost as bad as Borussia M'Gladbach (43). Maybe Landon could score against Steve? The team has scored one first half goal in the last 8 games / 360 first half minutes. I would think that Bayern Munich management would want a coach who could figure out how to get his high paid players to be ready at the start of each game. Bayern Munich still is a mess in the Bundesliga. It should be in first but it is in fifth with some chance of falling to ninth in only 7-8 total games.
Ray Hudson, who is an idiot, just said that Ribery had signed to go to Barcalona next year (telecast of the Barcalona game)...so is that true? Seems like BMunich might be needing a little speed if that's the case.
No kidding. Funny how no one mentioned the other four goals Landon scored in preseason in which he didn't celebrate at all. It was his FIRST goal against a German side. He was happy. Quite a few comments in this thread are absolutely insane. I got a new client today who is crazy....but I'm going to leave this thread and go work with her because she makes more sense than half the lunatics on this board. Sheesh.
There is a rumor, but the only source is from Sport, which is apparently not the most reputable of publications.
http://sports.yahoo.com/sow/news?slug=goal_report_ribery_agrees&prov=goal&type=lgns Definitely not a done deal I think
the arabic announcers were saying the same thing, 30 million euro purchase. But i think it's at the rumor, paper talk stage, meaning who knows if there are even discussions.
Most posts on this thread remind me why I don't put much effort into the BS community anymore. Too often people have agendas, but without the honesty or self esteem required to acknowledge facts that don't support them.
Re: Bayern Munich big slide in Bundesliga continues precisely .... and LD is going to have a heck of a time getting appreciated enough to get a contract when the team he is trialling with is in somewhat of a free fall. Klinsman is on the hot seat. As I recall Bocanegra and Dempsey and McBride and Keller all had somewhat of a dicey situation when Cookie Coleman was on the hot seat. It did not necessarily reflect poorly on Boca but he ended up having to leave that squad for France. LD is smack in the middle of an unstable situation (remember Freddy when he first got to Benfica?) ..... unless he grabs the game by the balls (perhaps it is too late for that) he is probably coming back to LA ....
Remember it his choosing to add stoppage time for subs. He's not bound to by the law. It's just a common gesture to add 30 second per sub. Quite frankly, too many refs add waaaaayyy too much time onto matches. But I agree today with 6 six that's a a little ridiculous. But can you blame him? I only watched 40 minutes and I was ready to turn the game off and go on about my business. The ref probably felt the same.
Agreed. I watched so much great football this week like Athletico vs Barca, Inter vs Roma, Arsenal vs Fulham, that game was just dreadful.
10 minutes isn't limited playing time? He had some longer spells but he hasn't started a game yet or played a full 90 minutes. Some players take a while to get comfortable and used to the new speed of the league. Donovan is coming from 5 years of MLS for crying out loud. He needs time to settle...
He's going to have been there for a couple of months and leave having played the equivalent of less than two full matches. Yes, that is limited playing time. Maybe he didn't do enough to earn more, but that is a different matter altogether.
Bayern Munich is losing big, big points to Wolfsburg, Hertha Berlin and Hamburg over the past 6 games. It is playing on a par with Dortmund and, Laverkusen, and just behind Schalke and Hoffenheim. Wolfsburg 1-2 1-1 2-0 2-0 2-1 3-1 --- L-T-W-W-W-W 4-1-1 --- 13 points Hertha Berlin 4-0 2-1 1-1 2-1 1-2 2-1 --- W-W-T-W-L-W 4-1-1 --- 13 points Hamburg 1-0 1-0 2-3 2-0 2-1 1-3 --- W-W-L-W-W-L 4-2-0 --- 12 points Hoffenheim 1-1 2-0 1-1 1-4 4-4 0-0 --- T-W-T-L-T-T 1-1-4 --- 7 points Borussia Dortmund 2-1 1-1 1-3 1-1 1-1 0-0 --- W-T-L-T-T-T --- 1-1-4 --- 6 points Bayern Munich 2-2 0-1 3-1 1-2 1-2 0-0 --- T-L-W-L-L-T 1-3-2 --- 5 points Schalke 1-1 0-1 0-1 1-2 1-1 2-1 --- T-L-L-L-T-W 1-3-2 --- 5 points Bayer Leverkusen 1-1 1-1 2-4 4-1 1-2 0-1 --- T-T-L-W-L-L --- 1-3-2 --- 5 points
Honestly, I watched the game and if I was LD I would be happy to head back to LA. It is going to get ugly at BM before it gets better. If they were playing well and scoring he would have a few himself. They are just impotent in attack which is either Ribery to the byline and cutback, everyone covered, or into the feet at the top of the box with 6 defenders behind you. I don't car whether you put LD out there or any other player the result would be the same. No imagination and no real playmaker in midfield which is killing them. I would have loved him to make it but I won't jump on the bandwagon and say he failed if he doesn't. He is an average player in the BL and would have been lucky to be signed. The stars have not aligned.
Like someone else mentioned before, there's most likely going to be a sweep through the Bayern Munich team this summer. Ribery is likely to get sold and Podolski is already headed out. With Toni and a few others aging, they'll be active. Before Christmas, it looked like a great move for Landon, but that club has become pitiful over the last two months, at least in Bundesliga play. There's no way you can mark it as a failure. Limited playing time, and when he was in, they were already down a goal. LD doesn't fit their scheme or their mentality.
We can never know what the coach tells the player. From reading the Landon threads, it seems that since the midseason friendlies, he hasn't been used as a speedster. Wasn't it just last week that Bayern were hucking long balls up to Landon? Landon came in for a mid. I don't KNOW that Klinsi is clueless tactically, or, more narrowly, is clueless about how to use Landon. It might be as mschofield is saying, that Landon is unwilling to fail big, so he fails little. Or he might be doing exactly what Jurgen is telling him to do.
