He played like shit today for Ukraine. He better score and assist this next month if he wants to set foot in Wembley.

Sorry, but I'd much rather have Shevchenko and Milevsky, or Milevsky and ANY warm body other than Voronin.

His eccentricities actually make me like him more than if he was typical stereotype of an athlete.

Hahahaha, man he plays pretty well at times. Problem is that its few and far between for Ukraine. I definitely like the sound of Sheva and Milevsky, but if Sheva continues to deteriorate much more you got to look at Voronin ahead of Seleznyov (barely) and Devic and Gomenyuk still have much to prove.

Sometimes I forget that Sheva is no longer a superstar player. It's like a convenient delusion, only undone by posts like yours.:(

Well, Sheva still scores regularly for the national team. If he continues to do so I'll be happy!

He's still only 21. Score two goals in Barcelona. However, he's been behind Seleznyov and M. Moreno at Shakhtar.

I really wish he never left Kharkiv.

Re: FSU Players Abroad (Arshavin, Sheva, Pavlyuchenko, etc)

This is true. But his play has been very dissapointing a lot of times. I know of at least 2 games recently for Ukraine, where he tries to dribble at speed with the ball bouncing and instead of taking a good touch with his thigh, he smashes the ball with his running knee to a defender 10 yds from him.

His header v. Croatia still haunts me. A perfect free kick from Nazarenko that led Sheva toward goal and had Pletiklosa unsure of coming out or staying in goal... instead of a slight flick like he'd have converted in his prime, he heads it off the top of his head and it flies over the goal. I think its mental now, he doesn't think as quick and isn't as sharp reacting like he was when he was a clinical finisher a few years ago. He's still good, but he's not a killer like he once was.

Shakhtar is a graveyard for young Ukrainians. Dnipro's Kravchenko might as well retire, I hope Fomin makes it there. Gladkiy is still in the NT equation, Seleznyov is just playing more right now as is Gomenyuk. But Gladkiy has an advantage that he's a lefty and we don't have many of those.

He's taking the Milevsky route :)

Great promise ---> several years of screwing around ---> BAM! (hopefully!)

Voronin with both goals as Hertha def. Bayern 2-1 to go on top of the league.

Got to be up there on his highlight reel. I remember one goal v. Bayern when he was still with Leverkusen, he almost ripped the goal post out the ground it hit the bar so hard.

One thing about Voronin that makes him good is that his runs off the ball are really clever at times. He might lack in some areas but this is a big attribute for a striker to have. Awesome to see him bounce back like this after a sub par showing for Ukraine earlier in the week.

Saw the game. Man of the match was clearly Drobny in goal, but Voronin looked surprisingly dangerous all game, and was clearly rewarded with two goals. First one was him just out muscling a Bayern defender for a header on goal, the other was a counter attack, where he calmly slide in a great ball by Raffael.

That ability is why I thought he should have been a good fit in the Premiership. Now that he scored two against Bayern for the top-og-the-table Hertha, it may be his time to shine.

P.S. Does he really need to go to Liverpool (the two against Bayern were certainly noticed by Benitez, I am sure)? Who knows, he may get more acclaim by an excellent showing in the Bundesliga...

He would be an interesting foil for Torres, but I think he seems better suited for a scrappier side. Everton or Hertha seem to be better fits.

Yeah I saw part of the match, I saw voronin's first goal, it was a nice little header.

I agree, he looks better playing for a side that fits his talent level. I did not think he was terrible for Liverpool, but they are a club out of his league.

Two things noticed today, I forgot the links so bare with me.

Voronin is apparently in talks about extending his loan spell at Hertha.

Meanwhile, Nikolas Bendtner has claimed that he is the best striker at Arsenal, and that he has never seen Arshavin play, nor does he know what kind of player he is.

Wow that is hilarious. Bendtner is like the 6th best striker on Arsenal now that Eduardo is back today. Bendtner sucks and I guess he is a jackss too.

Arshavin is out of the lineup.
