He'll need some championships to achieve that. Spencer won it all with Pen~arol. And he was the star of the team. It was different times, so it's difficult to compare the achievements. But I would say if Antonio can win at least a few domestic and/or international championships in Europe, and lead Ecuador to at least another World Cup 2nd round, then he would have to start being considered the best ever.

I would love to see Valencia go to Liverpool. I think they have the thinnest bench on the wing. They lost Pennant, and look at Skrtl, he wasn't much when he came in but Benitez pulled some magic over at Merseyside. What do you guys think?

I think Liverpool would be great for all the reasons you mentioned...what hasn't been addressed is the relative lack of depth of their pockets as well...that club has amassed a huge amount of debt after the takeover of hicks and gilette and now with the new stadium plans, they're pinned back a little making their transfer funds weaker than the other top 4 teams but they really would be a nice place for Valencia to see his career shine.

Yeah...that figure kind of threw me off. I honestly thought Valencia is a better baller than Wilson Palacios....and he went for like 11 million pounds or something like that.

Valencia is still valued at 17 million by Wigan Athletic chairman Dave Whelan, and that article which claims he will leave for 5 million is a SNIDE.
With regards to Palacios, he departed for 15 million to Tottenham.

No, he's not worth 15 and believe me, Like the article states.. he's been well documented by Ferguson and Ferguson knows his shortcoming especially when it come to playing against the big clubs in the EPL. Palacios had above average performances against the same clubs...And if he is better than Palacios than why did Tottenham didn't want Valencia?? That would have been a perfect club for Valencia instead he's going to a club where they spend $$$ on every single WINDOW TRANSFER getting some of the best players in the world? That doesn't make sense.

Palacios went for £12 mil to tottenham (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wilson_Palacios) and I think Valencia will go for around £10 mil and Wigan will get someone like Pennant or maybe Nani and less money, although I don't know if Nani would want to go.

That's about the right price, maybe alittle more..valencia should have went to tottenham or even aston villa.. I hope to god he doesn't go to ManU..If he does than he's going to have one hell of a fight for the starting position. Anyone ever see that kid rafael play for Manu? Fantastic and he completely shut down Luis Bolanos in Japan and had only played 7 games for ManU.

Because the Spurs wanted a central midfielder and not a winger???

Also, didn't Real Madrid offer Wigan something like 14 million pounds for Valencia only to be turned down? Dave Whelan believes Valencia is worth more than that!

I've said it before but I think Valencia's best shot at getting playing time in a big club would be a move to Liverpool. I think they have the least depth at the right wing. Also, I think he would have the best time fitting in at liverpool with Torres, Alonso, Reina, Mascherano, Arbeloa, and Benitez as the manager. I'm crossing my fingers for that move. What do you guys think?

So Valencia can't play in the Middle? Palacios played a winger when Valencia used to be out..14 million Pounds? No, I don't think so. Ramos, the Real Madrid coach came out and said he never wanted Valencia. Not even Diego herrera got a whisper from Real. the only reason this rumuor flew was because Ramos wanted him in tottenham.. Thank your lucky stars Valencia was not at Real madrid when Liverpool Put that beating on them. Knowing his records on playing against those clubs, He easily could have been a JUDAS in Real by now. Unless you think that Valencia can play at that speed. That liverpool - Real game is just f.v.cking ridiculous. Speed rules...

Ok.. maybe, just maybe, you're right and Valencia isn't worth that much money. I will tell you this though: if all the offers for him are less than what Palacios was sold for, Wigan will NOT SELL. Steve Bruce always said that he felt Valencia was worth more than Palacios, and he won't sell unless he feels he's getting his true value.

Re: Luis Antonio Valencia, news & comments (r)

    True.

Last year Valencia was Wigan's star player, followed by Wilson Palacios in second. The true overall value that Palacios went to Tottenham for was 15 million, with Stevie Bruce making the club a 14 million profit from the player. Given that Valencia has been the best Wigan player over the past couple of years, their is no way that the club would sell him for below 15 million and anyone who thinks that they would is just stupid. Dave Whelan has Valencia valued at 17 million at present and given the strict, intelligent business man that he is, he would definately not lower that price, this especially when clubs such as Real Madrid would be prepared to pay above this price for the player. Personally I would say that Valencia is not worth the 17 million market value, and I would say that 12 million or a bit higher sounds about right, however we are living in a messed up World when Fooballing transfers are concerned, in which prices are ridicuolusly inflated. When Valencia is concerned his price tag is only inflated by a few million, so I dont see how anyone can over react massively about him being over valued, this especially when players such as Messi, Kaka, Ronaldo etc, are over valued by such silly margins reaching as high as 50 million.
With regards to that article by known SNIDE company premiershiplatest, you would have to be one retarded fella to take that crap about Valencia departing for 5 million seriously, and funningly enough look which one board member here actually fell for it. LOL.

I remember that Bruce said Valencia is worth more than David Bentley's transfer...and that was in direct reference to the Spurs trying to pick up Valencia as well.

What you want and what you get..Such is life. And that article say IN EXCESS OF 5 MILLION for those who can't read, LMAO..For every article that someone pops up saying he's worth 17-20 Million, I got one stating he's worth under 10 million..and According to Metro, Wigan wanted Tottenham to pay top dollars for Valencia. I guess Tottenham thought he was way overpriced. And someone please remind me who play on the right side for Man U?

I think part of the problem is that there was a lot of low balling for Valencia...Wigan knows his worth to the team-without him that midfield is a shell of what it used to be. Wigan was ready to deal off Palacios because of what they paid for him and the profit margins were through the roof, losing Heskey as well put a dent in the attack. Whatever reports come out are merely speculative, his real worth is definitely above 10 million pounds because of Wigan's need for him. Also, think about it...How much did they pay for Rodallega? They don't wnat to break even to sell Valencia for a low price...

Anyone who knows football knows that Valencia is easily worth beyond 10 million. Dave Whelan has Valencia currently valued at 17 million and even informed Sky Sports News in person of this. He also sold Palacios to Tottenham for 15 million so there is no way that he is going to sell the better Valencia for a lower price. That simply would not make sense.
With regards to those articles stating Valencia to go for under 10 million, it is just typical closed transfer window nonsense which is well known to occur from the media here in the UK. The public take such stories of this particular period with a pinch of salt, and barely give it any thought, this because in many more cases than not these stories end up coming to nothing. The media will invent so many stories regarding transfers during closed window due to so little going on. No kidding in about two weeks time another bunch of articles will pop up stating different price tags on Valencia, then a few weeks later it will happen again. With the current crop of articles the companies all agree on under 10 million but they each have a different figure in mind of the numbers available from 1 to 9. Its all just a load of crap.
I love it though how Argentine Futbol gets all serious and believes each article that comes along. It's pretty entertaining stuff and it shows that the kid has a lot to learn.
