I know the field was wet and all, but I don't think I've ever seen Sanchez look that bad on a shot.

Who could he blame if he saw Bradley running down towards the ball all the way from the dressing rooms !!

Oh, and a long time ago people in Mexico had said that the U.S. soccer player had grown in the sport and that their results against Mexico had shown that. but don't tell anyone I told you so. Let them believe what they will.

Just happy to get the win. Was pleased with the possession in the midfield we were able to get. Was about as good a crowd as we could hope for playing vs. Mexico inside the borders of the continental US. Tim Howard played very well and without that save early on against dos Santos who knows how it turns out though.

    Great game for Michael Bradley.

Kljestan needs to grow his hair back out; his passing was terrible again.

Landicakes couldn't find any kind of space out there.

Back line had a few shaky moments but mostly held it together, Heath Pearce in particular looked better than usual.

Marquez was playing a great game until that stupid attack on Timmah; well deserved red card. And to heck with the fan that threw that whatever it was during Mexico's corner.

So are we starting a pool on how long before Erickson gets sacked?

I thought it was a so-so performance by the US with good possession but some disjointed play - we really need to get that second goal earlier than the 92nd minute to put it away.

Watching the Marquez "challenge" again, it was not a marginal red, it was a solid red - he put his leg out studs up and jabbed Howard's leg. That's some captain you have, getting tossed out of games for cheap shots. Piece of garbage. I heard that when the Mexican team went to the bathroom after the game tonite in Columbus, Marquez showed up in the toilet.

But who cares now that we got a 2-0 win . . . GOALS, GOALS, GOALS FOR THE RED WHITE & BLUE . . . GOALS, GOALS, GOALS FOR THE RED WHITE AND BLUE . . . everyone join in . . . GOALS, GOALS, GOALS FOR THE RED WHITE AND BLUE

If I ever have the opportunity, I might punch you in the face. I will now have that song stuck in my head for the next 3 months. I hate you.

I disagree. What the hell was up with the long ball tactic? I've never seen Mexico employ that as much as they did and that surely must have been a SGE directive. It took Mexico's midfield completely out of the game which is Mexico's strength not to mention the fact that they were playing in a 40 mph wind. When Mexico did try and play the ball on the ground, their passing was inconsistent at best and they gave the ball away A LOT more than the normally do.

From what I saw, the US was playing much more attractive football the first half although Mexico got a few good chances (mainly off of complete ********ups by the US defense and set pieces oddly enough). The second half, Mexico did play better and controlled the play for periods but they never dominated any portion.

I'm pretty sure they used it during interrogations at Guantanamo. It's so annoying that it makes it fun to sing and taunt Mexican fans with :)

Great win by the US. Mexico will try to exact revenge on the return leg in Mexico city.

Great pairing of Kliestian and Bradley in the middle it really screwed up Mexico's attack. You can see why Bradley starts his son over Ricardo - he brings more to the attack. I think all young american players should spend the early part of their career in Holland, those guys know how to coach em up!

Ching played well as a hold up forward and Altidore didn't look as good.

Exciting game to watch as both teams didn't try to sit back.

Did anyone else find the camera work and direction on ESPN shockingly bad? The way they were flipping between close ups, and unable to follow the ball, was about the most amateurish thing I've ever seen. I switched to Univision in the middle of the first half and it was miles better, despite the fact that I have to pay much closer attention to the Spanish commentary to know what they are saying.

I agree -- ESPN production sucks. And News breaks in the middle of the half?

Mexico did a good job keeping the US out of dangerous areas. I liked the Mexico tactic of trying to play solid disciplined D and steal a goal on the counter attack. Howard, the US defense, + Bradley & Beasley played great. Mexico found little love through midfield and had to bypass it with long balls. US attacked on the ground with short passing. WTF? These teams wearing wrong jerseys?

Chinger struggled in the tight space he could find. US created only 2 chances: Dempsey whiffed the first, Bradley finished the second, and Adidas' scientificly engineered goalkeeper embarassing knuckle ball went in on a minor chance Bradley hit at the end. Donovan did little except for two great head shot setting up headers at far posts. He needs to be a true CAM playing outside the defense and running at it -- and not a forward playing with his back to goal. US runs out of ideas in attacking thirrd.

Ease up on Marquez. Crap happens in soccer games. He made a mistake. It happens. He played well otherwise. I'm not going to label him as dirty or damaged because of one injury time incident.

Mexico got a few chances and should have had at least one goal. Game could have been a draw easily -- but Mexico is just not getting these results outside of Azteca.

    Dempsey and Klejstan had nightmares.

I kept posting that during the game, I was getting really frustrated with the way the ball would go outside the camera frame and you would lose the action, I thought it was because they were filming in HD also, but I don't know. I should have watched it on Univisión too, but I figured the pictures would be the same on both networks.

Disagree as much as you want. the game plan was a good one to bypass the American midfield and attack the slow backline constantly. and it would've worked with crisper passes which the wind did play a part and better timming. I haven't checked the stats but I believe they were fifty-fifty on all accounts, fouls included.

The Americans play practical soccer and have a defined strategy. Mexico knew that the U.S. plays for set pieces and still could not block Donovan at least two times from heading the ball back into the center of the box after the corner was kicked to the second post.

Overall it was a good match on both sides, the turning points were; that crucial goal just before the end of the first half, Nery Castillo getting broke and that stupid mistake commited by Marquez in the heat of the play. the second goal was just gravy.

Like I said before; the endline is South Africa. 16 points will get you there.

Honestly man, just lay off. Not one person has made any sort of excuse in this thread and your preemptive attacks of potential excuses is annoying. It appears to me that you constantly search for reasons to call out the Mexican team and its fans. In this post alone your comment is a reach, Frankie himself said it was not a big deal and the person who slapped him misunderstood what he was yelling. Said he understood.

I believe we are getting off topic. Yes some fans take it too far but please don't label them all bad. Mexico & America alike have fans that make all of us look bad and so does the rest of the world. The issue is not spreading it around causing an even further backlash from the other side. We all love Football, Futbal & Soccer (call it what you will) but it was a great game, a hard fought game and I can't wait to see these two teams advance to show the rest of the world that the CONCACAF can play.

With the way Mexico is playing, all they'll prove is that CONCACAF = crap.

Hopefully they turn it around, though

Heydude's hustle up the right, Dos Santos ball control and attack minded attitude, the Coach's son laying to rest any doubts, Ching laboring away like always, the crowd, the rain, the goals, the celebration at Santitos with everyone else wearing our colors while our el Tri folks had to sit their and hang their heads in all the pandemonium!...this is what I will take from another Classico Rio Bravo.

Note on the ESPN TV: I did notice in the highlights that the camera crew guys for this match were lost many times. I mean so bad that it effects your viewing pleasure cuz the ball is not in the screen sometimes.
At Santitos we got the Televisa HD (IIRC cuz we drank a shitload of beer there last night) feed and it was what any footy fan would want in a soccer broadcast. High quality slowmotion replays on fouls, slidetackles or SOGs only, closeups on dead balls and ideal tracking of the run of play. I really have no idea why ESPN has such crap camera crews and production chiefs for U.S. soccer matches but they do. When you watch another nation's coverage it highlights how its supposed to be done.

The only complaint about that feed last night (at Santitos) was the annoying commercial graphics during the game. Some were alright but some came at bad and critical times. However, the worst (dirtiest) part was the filler during the rain delay--you know the lady and cow part.
