"It's not OK Oklahoma City mayor nixes proposal for MLS stadium" (AP) http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/soccer/us/news/2002/07/23/okc_mls_ap/
Yeah, he didn't say "no" to the MLS, he just said he didn't think the city could competley pay for a stadium. But on top of that, no one has asked the city to do that. The impression that I've gotten all along is that Express Sports is the one that will pay for the stadium, the only things they may need from the city is land which the city would be more the willing to give. The city isn't saying "We don't want the MLS". They're just saying they really isn't any way for them to squeeze out $25 million more for a stadium on top of everything that we've built lately. This hasn't hindered the possibility of the MLS coming to OKC one bit.
Based on one of the other articles I saw, Express Sports and/or whomever else doesn't even have a semi-concrete proposal to make public yet. This could end up, at least, lasting longer than the normal tease.
Mayor Humphreys felt left out! Mayor Humphreys just returned from vacation and thought that he was in the wrong city. He immediately had to deal with a police brutality situation in which a black man was beaten after picking up a prostitute and the black community is in a major uproar. Mayor Kirk Humphreys has always wanted to push Oklahoma City to the next level in sports; however, he did jump to conclusion. No one has asked or proposed that any public funds be used to build a stadium. He is in favor of bringing an MLS team to Oklahoma City. I sure he feels a bit slighted since he was left out of this process. In the last ten years, Oklahoma City has voted in a grand total of $1.5 million in initiatives. The Urban Renewal owns acres of free land downtown and along the North Canadian Riverfront Development area and the city could pay for subdiving and getting the utilities set up which should run around $5 million. Funk would only need $10 million and that stadium is funded. Bob Funk will find a way to build a SSS if he is guaranteed a franchise.
mmmm well at least Ford Center looks nice... damnn... even CHL can gather more money for building playing places....
He probably thought he wouldn't be ridiculed because this is the first post he's made without referencing BC Place.
His idiocy knows no bounds. He's already been tossed off a Vancouver soccer board. http://forum.vancouversouthsiders.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=2674
We're not reopening a 7 year old thread. Especially just to rip VancouverMLS - regardless of its entertainment value. Thread closed.
